fabyom: Osimhen Moffi Sadiq Onuachu Iheanacho In that order... Only reason Iheanacho isn't ahead of Onuachu is because of his lack of game time this season... You can chose not to admit it, but there's some limitations to Onuachu's game that makes him not much of a sort after player.. I remember when Klopp took charge of Liverpool and we had Benteke who was one of the premier league prolific target man..He could score, but he was so limited in his performance..Always hanging around the 18 hard box for a pass... Klopp got rid of him immediately and started a false 9 system with Firmino that produced plenty of goals... 6 Likes |

Some players thrive mainly under specific systems while some others are more adaptable. Onuachu and Nacho (to a degree) thrive in a specific kind of tactical set-up. They can be good squad players but it makes no sense building a team around them. 3 Likes |

Good point you make. Onuachu needs tactical setups laid to bring out his strengths. Paul is an excellent 18-yard-box finisher unfortunately for him in today's modern game strikers waiting in the box for service is fast going out of service. A modern forward has to be involved in play which means you have to play well back to goal which Onuachu still struggles with. caprikon: 1 Like 1 Share |

BannedLarge: Bassey is not close to being our best CB. His flaws in that position is obvious to the keen eye. Bassey is best as a fullback. It is his best position for now. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by chrisooblog: 4:47pm On Nov 06, 2022 |
For Moffi you can argue he's has performed relatively well in a higher level league compared to Onuachu but until we see Paul in a top 5 European league it will be unfair to draw that judgment. Sadiq got injured before he could take off properly in La Liga so we can't really use league performance as basis of whether Umar trumps Paul. Now using national team football you can't really separate the 3 forwards in terms of lasting impact and performance. That said one can argue Onuachu has had a longer stay in the national team than the previous 2 and apart from his wonder goal against Egypt back in 2018 he hasn't exactly set the house on fire with his displays in the SEs. Personally Moffi looks more like someone who could deputize for Osimhen. I was impressed with his game against Algeria recently. His overall output and not just his goal won me over. Overall I agree that the number 2 striker position is still not cast in stone and it's still open for anyone to grab that chance. fabyom: 1 Like |

At the moment I can't put my hand on my chest and tell you who is better than Bassey in the CB position for the SE. Balogun who I would have pointed to some years back is not the most comfortable on the ball and also lacks pace. Omeruo is not it right now, Ekong always has a mistake in him, Awaziem still lacks defensive awareness and sharpness while Semi Ajayi is not exactly the wall of Gibraltar. Akpoguma who one could have mentioned was definitely the weaker CB when Nigeria faced Algeria recently. Bassey is a young upcoming player so it's not surprising you will fine flaws in his game at the moment. How many 21-year-olds not named Saliba are world class CBs at the moment? Give Calvin time he'll get better. Meliforme: 1 Like |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Meliforme: 6:02pm On Nov 06, 2022 |
chrisooblog:Defensive awareness and sharpness is one of Awaziem's forte, and it is one of the qualities he has above the others. What makes you think that Omeruo is not it right now? I want to know. Regarding Balogun, is pace the first quality you consider in a CB. I am yet to put a finger to the reason why Bassey started games ahead of Balogun at CB position in Rangers FC. I don't think it is for footballing reasons. Bassey is a fullback, it is written all over his game, i mean his skills and decisions. As it stands, I will pick Awaziem, Balogun, Omeruo ahead of Bassey, they thrive better at CB. |

Ajax fans are attacking Bassey and I understand them. I didn't see the second goal but how could he have allowed that first goal to happen? How? |
