semmyk: I have come to realise that understanding the non-salary benefits are as important as the Annual Pay. When I moved from a Company without benefits to one with benefits, I realised that the benefits alone amount to almost half of the Annual Pay but no one talks about it. Wait o, did you say there is a UK Technology Career Thread? 1 Like |

Does anyone have experience with single rate tariff vs day/night rate tariff? I'm thinking of moving to a single rate tariff because its stressful waking up at night to turn on/off storage heater because of night rate and we use most of our electricity during the day. Which is better? |

Viruses: You don’t need to wake up at night, it’ should be on a timer. 1 Like |

Akorkor: I opened mine with Barclays but opened the kids JISA with hargreaves Lansdown. I might move my ISA from Barclays to HL cos Barclays fees are not favourable in line with my current holdings at the moment. I learnt moneybox is nice as well 3 Likes 4 Shares |

Viruses: You'll still end up paying less for whatever amount of energy you use during the off peak period, so I reckon you'll be better off with a dual rate tariff. Savings might be small if you are unable to move your heavy usage to the off peak period though. 1 Like |

dubaiprince: https://www.moneysupermarket.com/investments/stocks-shares-isas/ Above link has a number of providers, list is not exhaustive though. For example Vanguard is missing on the list and they have a reputation for being the cheapest in terms of cost, although it is very restrictive as you can only buy vanguard funds and can't buy individual stocks as well. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

Viruses: If you look back on this thread, we have discussed this in detail previously. Storage heaters work on dual tariff I.e off peak and day tariff. They are supposed to charge up during the night when there is off peak usage (cheaper electric) and then release the heat during the day. There is also some off peak electricity during the day in the afternoons but this will vary with your supplier. You can use your washing machine, dishwasher and other appliances during this time to avoid having to wake up at night. Your storage heater and hot water boiler are usually hard wired to the off peak meter. Changing to a standard meter will mean re-wiring and I don’t think this is straightforward and simple. How much is your night rate (off peak rate) compared to the day rate? You will find that you are making considerable savings by restricting your energy use to off peak period compared to someone on a standard tariff. 2 Likes |

@Bourne007 , Could you help me check with your friend if he got a mail pre-delivery of the BRP or not. I was in an Airbnb for my first 4weeks of arrival and i used the address hoping it will come before i leave apartment. It has a been difficult following up with the owner to help check 'with current occupant' if i have any letter there (from time to time). At least, if an email precedes delivery - that will serve as a "notification" that my BRP is ready. Thank you. Bourne007: |

Akorkor: It depends on your risk appetite. Cash ISAs are no different from normal savings accounts. Just that interest earned is tax free. However the interests rates are little but capital and interest are not at risk. For stock and share ISA, Capital is at risk and you are likely to get lower than u invested but u stand a good chance of increased value of investment in the long run which can be very huge but u can even get lower than you invested over the long run (this past year was terrible for shares and funds). 6 Likes |
