OP, you are very correct. In Utako Market, I have seen people washing tomatoes with detergent before it is displayed for sale, as well as fruits and vegetables getting washed very close to restrooms. So many unsafe food handling practices all around and nobody is even monitoring or regulating.

I have always indicated the need for the federal government to take over the duties of local government environmental and sanitation officers. Local governments have failed in Nigeria, so no one is checkmating our market men and women. This is why people sell rotten meat as suya. It is the same reason market people sell drinking garri (uncovered) in the open space, usually beside a filthy blackish gutter with over a million houseflies and rodents.
Police, harassment
Nafdac harassment
Customs harassment
Immigration harassment
Tax officers harassment
Water board harassment

Now you stupidly want food inspection harassment

And if we tell you you got the govt you deserved you no go gree
Soldiers harassment

After drinking that infested piece of crap soaked in ice water and groundnut, they end up spending N5,000 on medical treatment. That's how we recycle poverty in Nigeria. The cost of ignorance is very expensive.

Nobody stopping you from not buying uncovered food or better yet go and make the covered food so ppl will buy from you

If we hire 500k graduates as environmental specialists, our national health subsidy/insurance budget will be reduced by 60%. Additionally, we would see a remarkable improvement in the purchasing power of the people, our life expectancy over time, and, of course, a reduction in the unemployment rate.
Where will their salary come from?
Or you think it will fall from heaven?
You realise they have To tax you more to pay them so now more people starve as food prices soar

Think before you talk

But what do I know? A government bereft of ideas would rather employ 500k youths as political npower agents without roles and responsibilities or 200k personal assistants in ballot snatching and vote buying.

Right now, we are selling sickness in the marketplace and pumping more money to treat preventable illnesses and epidemics.
how many are falling sick

You with your ajebutter immune system, nobody is stopping you from buying expensive packaged garri and pap o

Heat kills the all germs when cooking and dry garri is not conducive to bacteria so carry your wokeness to your village

Well said. There were things I always used to brag that I would never do. By the time pressure hit me, I developed serious waist pain that had me crying to sleep. Nobody told me to delegate some routine chores. I can’t kill myself over wife-materialship.

Imagine 3:30am? And na 11pm she sleep o!

I kept seeing SALT everywhere. Please take it easy. Don’t in the process of killing germs, destroy your LIVER. Hypertension is real. These micro organisms are not earthworms, your salt does nothing. You can ask a microbiologist for more perspective.

Happy married life dear.

Here Is my Final Verdict on this matter because I have seen more than enough when It comes to Nigeria Woes.

This complains seems like a waste of time because Most of those unhygienic market men/women, food vendors et all we are complaining about don't even have any form of formal education talkless of being EDUCATED. Morso they are not on the Cyber World. Don't also forget these set of people makes 70% of the Nation's Population.

Majority of Nigerians are Archaic Beings Irrespective of their Social Status..

You are far too kind. I was actually referring to the Naija definition of wife-material that thinks the woman needs to cook and clean until her waist breaks.

Well, just know that it is very tedious, so appreciate her very much for it.

It is easy to come on a forum and state confidently that people should always buy corn and process pap for their families, when you're not the one making it.

It is always illiterates I see wash plates, pots and clothes without soap. It is always illiterates I see cook meat and vegetables without washing. Illiterates normally don’t wash hands while cooking or before eating. Every educated person I know follows the guidelines taught in school. Personal hygiene can be learned from observation. Situational hygiene is a different case. I’ve seen primary school pupils teach their illiterate parents to use soap when washing body parts and salt when washing meat or produce.

Your mother went to school so decided to pass the knowledge. Illiterates never had the opportunity. “Disease no get authority for black man belle” obviously wasn’t coined by the educated.

I don't know your definition of illiteracy sha. But I understand it to mean someone who can't read and/or write in any language. I don't see how that relates to hygiene

Long before white men brought Western education to us, neat and dirty people existed

Even in time of Christ, neat and dirty people still dey. School does it's own quite alright, but if you are neat as a parent, your children will unconsciously copy it... And the attitude will become a consciousness in them

Long before covid, I had develop a consciousness of always washing my hands immediately I get home. This was because my mom insisted we do it whenever we returned from school while in pri. And sec. School.

During my nysc days, it took a while for my hostel mates to understand that it's was part of me. Some thought I always go somewhere to finger my girlfriend hence I always wash hands when ever I return

And it will shock you that my mom didn't finish sec school. She was in standard 6 or 7 before the civil war broke and she couldn't countinue after it.

The thing is: some persons are just dirty whether literate or illiterate. And they pass that dirty consciousness to their children

From malaria and lack of water and sanitation
Not uncovered food

With your type of mentality, I don't think you can live in a civilized society for 6 weeks without spending some days in prison. Your DNA is totally distorted. You no longer know the difference between bad and good. I really feel your pain cos Nigeria has dealt with you mercilessly.
in civilised society the individual decides what is good or bad for themselves not abdicate responsibility for their actions to pseudo intellectuals who think they know better than 200 million citizens.

Who are you to decide what is good or bad

I purposely deleted the other nonsense you posted jare.

I know that you're a lazy arm chair civil servant who wants to sit all day in the Ministry of Health and Environment defending Tilumbu online.

If you have any iota of sense, you'll realize that some states already have these agencies. Many are just not doing enough.

Agencies like the Lagos State ministry of health and environment is why you're not eating rotten beef everyday. I'm aware that some of their workers operate onsite in different abattoirs in Lagos. We have some of them in Oke-aro pig farm, ensuring that you don't feed on carcass and rotten pigs. Without these men in place, hundreds of dead pigs can find their way into the market unknown to you, the lazy arm chair worker.

Youre too busy trying to counter a point that is tailored towards saving your life.

After blaming WHO, you will still run to the nearest pharmacy to buy malaria drugs grin You think that's how civilized nations patronise anti malaria and typhoid drugs?? grin grin

Nigeria has dealt with you, badly.
