Hello all and welcome to this thread. This new year, I believe a lot of people have resolutions and plans they intend to achieve this year and for the future. I am a strong believer in the saying "Knowledge (the right information) is Power" hence having the right information from people's experiences and legit sources can lead to the achievement of our goals.

Now, for those of us who are intending to migrate to Germany for work or family re-union purposes, it is very vital to get the right information on processes and guidance to successful acquiring of your visum (visa).

Here we go, first, it will be very important to visit the German Consulate official website, try to know the legit site as opposed to third-party, clone sites, or random Google site results. The official site of the German Consulate in Nigeria is https://nigeria.diplo.de, there you can find a lot of information regarding types of visas, booking appointments, and requirements.

I believe there are Nigerians out there in Germany who have gone through this process in the past few years that can share their experience with us, which is always helpful. I have questions and well as I can answer questions of my journey to this stage, I have also been able to share and answer questions on other threads that can help.

So let's begin this journey by helping each other one question and answer at a time for the right information is the power that will help us achieve our goals.

Thank you.

Hi Biggybee,
I'm about starting my visa application because my fellowship application was just approved. Going through your last response, I discovered you said I should also book a date for my wife.

Is this booking done online also or at the embassy? I didn't really see any option at the online booking portal which will not cause her to wait for a year, at the minimum!

To everyone, my passport expires next February, is it possible to schedule an appointment with it while I commence the renewal process or I must use the new passport?

I'm trying to save time because I need to be in Germany early next year.

Biggybee:

Let your fellowship body give you a letter that covers her (you might not need this if your acceptance letter already states that). Or let them mail the embassy when you have gone for your own interview.

Book a date for her alongside with you.

MAKE SURE YOU DROP THE LETTER ALONG WITH THE DOCUMENTS YOU DROP OFF AT THE EMBASSY. If you interviewer asks if you have any questions... Tell them about your wife.

Book for her online, family reunion visa, let her start her waiting period. The one year minimum you referred to starts counting from the day you book. So book it and let the countdown begin.

When you resume your fellowship here, it could also help your fellowship body to offer some assistance when you tell them how long she's been on the wait list.

If you get to the interview and somehow the visa offered could cover your wife.. You simply give them the reference code generated when you did the booking.

This is just my opinion.

To your second question, I will suggest you schedule an appointment with your old passport and keep working on the new. When it is time to submit your passport for the visa stamping, submit a new one.

If you are asked to drop it off at your interview, let the interviewer know its about to expire.

Good luck!

Thank you so much.
I will book for her as advised but the fellowship has a four month language (German) training before my research starts and we are to undertake the language training together.

Hopefully, she will be given visa with me so that we start the training at the same time.

Do not book an appointment with the passport, kindly proceed to a nearest immigration office and get a new passport in Nigeria.

You can pay for instant passport, then you can book for the Visa appointment.

Normally, when your passport have within 6 months validity, you can renew it. So please renew it.

The pain and expenses in renewal of Nigeria passport abroad no here.

Do your passport renewal in Naija.

Thanks, Ahmed4002.
Actually, I have initiated my passport renewal but the immigration officer said it will still take a minimum of two weeks before I can get it sad So in order to save time, I was thinking I could start with the old one while the renewal process in underway.

I will appreciate it if I can have the views of those who have had similar experience - using your about-to-expire passport to book an appointment and getting your visa in the renewed passport. Does anyone here have such experience?

Has anyone relocated with their spouse yo Germany using the skilled Immigration act visa category. Assuming you are the primary applicant, what document did your spouse take to the embassy that didn’t make you have issue with the securities, is it family reunion document or skilled immigration act document?

Go ahead with your old passport. But make sure you remember to go with both when you are going for your interview, it's very very common.

I and my daughter applied using the Skilled Immigration act visa category. We went with the family reunion documents and also with the preapproval and power of attorney document, my husband's office got these documents for us. We had no issue at the embassy, though we are still awaiting visa approval.

Hi everyone.

Please when the foreign office contacts the spouse to submit documents... is it by email or by a written letter?
Also the submission of the requested documents ... is it through soft copies by email or hard copies through the post/physical submission?
Any insight given is appreciated.

The foreign office normally contact via Email.

Depending on the officer, some might request for a soft copy, while others would ask you to drop it on their post box.

It would be just a waste of time.

Embassy not to do entertain such request be it for DAAD scholars.
They would ask you to wait for one year.

No harm in trying Sha.

Two friends just did last week, and it was a negative feedback (Daad scholar and a blue card holder)
