Geebee5:Take the NHS job. Private sector might pay better, but could also drop you at short notice especially with the current economic situation. With NHS you’re like a tenured professor, na you go tire. 2 Likes |

Geebee5: Also note - there is little difference between the Nigerian civil service mentality and that which pervades the NHS. The same ethos of civil servants doing their job at their own pace, secure in the knowledge that their powerful unions won't allow the government to sack them or rationalise the structure. The NHS is overstaffed at an administrative level as opposed to an operational one, more generals than infantry so to speak, and there are so many jobs for the boys, people essentially doing nothing, or duplicating functions. It's said to be the largest employer in Europe. One can only imagine the politics. If one hasn't got a profession also in demand in the private sector, its fine to sit down in the NHS and take your promotions (if they come) then get to 65 or 67 and bugger off with a gold-plated pension. The ultimate career path would be someone, an average 22-year old for instance, spending like 25 years of their working life in the private sector, making good money, then parachuting into the NHS or a university at a higher grade/or band to spend 10 years and take home a good final salary pension. This happens a lot. Again, just like it used to be back in Nigeria, civil servants have security, so if you get a job with the NHS, barring any serious issues, you can look forward to retiring there. If one wants security and has no risk appetite, the civil service works. 13 Likes 3 Shares |

For the person asking about why naira gained for a few days, £ is now 910 on Lemonade LOL As long as they don't sort out the basic underlying issues, it's just like putting lipstick on a pig They can pump dollars to defend naira all they want, but naira will always find its level |

ELff: I think you were so eager to buy a car from a ‘friend’ that you didn’t bother to do the most basic research about road taxes. Road tax 101 is very clear that it a not transferable. The day a car is sold, the burden shifts to the new owner. Infact, if the old owner had already paid fully, they will be refunded. I guess you have paid school fees, to learn the hard way. Lessons learned. Move on. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Geebee5:Just know that if you decide to go with the NHS, your destiny won’t be tied to the place, you can always leave in a year plus and go back to the private sector. At the end of the day, do what’s best for you and your wallet. 5 Likes |

For folks living in London with their families, how much do you spend monthly on rent, utilities and groceries? What is the minimum monthly spend for a family of 4 with two kids aged 12 and 10 ? Wife is schooling and hubby will be working with an expected salary of 60,000 annual. Can they survive on this salary living in London? They have established siblings who are UK citizens, but they are not depending on supports though they will take if it comes. They don't want to be a burden to anyone in the UK. Please people with families should share experience. |

bankylan:the problem with London is rent.. with this salary, assume your take home is 3500 to 3600, a 2 bedroom can take average of 40% of this salary each month.. if your wife is schooling I guess for that period you can both ? be exempt from council tax As for the rest of utilities you’ll pay. Rent is the major concern. Also you might find that you’ll have little left with you each month for saving. 2 Likes |

Just putting this out there; So a colleague of mine on tier 2 visa traveled to naija and back using KLM. Had a stop over at Amsterdam on both journeys, didn’t have a transit visa. I know after brexit, only British citizens could fly KLM or Air France or any of these European airlines without a transit visa. I stand to be corrected. I dunno about any other airline, but she flew KLM to naija and back to the UK and she’s on Tier 2 visa. 1 Like |
