This a long diatribe that can be summarize in two sentence. Nobody trust the cedis because of it's history of hyperinflation. Your economy even when you re-dominated the cedis to 1:1 with dollar remain dollarized. Arresting dealers will make situation worse.

The solution is simple - watch your macro-economics - debt, soveirgn credit rating, inflation, interest rate - you dropped the ball and now Ghanians - both local/foreign investors - are racing to protect their money by dollarizing.

Kenya has no such history - apart from a brief period of six months in 1993 - when we moved from 20 to 60 to a dollar - now we are 120 - all those 60yrs.Therefore there is a lot of trust and confidence on Kshs. Your rarely see anything in kenya quoted in dollars - in fact it somewhat illegal to do that.

When it come to comparing kenya and Ghana - simple video of Nairobi or Mombasa or kisumu or Nakur or Eldoret is enough.

You see economic growth and progress is not found in data - it manifest itself.

When you go to Germany or Japan or US - you dont need to see their data to know it's doing well.

When I see Ghana - and I have seen lots of video - I see poverty, I see hawking on streets, I see almost informality everywhere, I see huge slumpolis without even single trees, I see Nigeria. I have seen both rural and urban places. I see farming that is almost stone age.

You can also see videos from youtubers who have gone to both Ghana and Kenya.
cedis was not depreciating as you might blindly suggest, it is the dollar that was used all over the world that was fast appreciating, it is not compliance of the cedis used set by bank of Ghana among banks in Ghana , the bureau the changes and all other financial institution couples with hoarding dollars in foreign exchange account. Kenya has country is facing large debt stock just as many country having their currency depreciated, therefore your shilling is likely overvalued . Same thing some country did. You are only prolonging your problem. Imf had already told you, your currency is overvalued by something of more than 20 percent and they are all reasons to belive it is more than that. With the cedis , they're many indication suggesting cedis is not at is real value and it is under value (I will provide an evidence ) it is too much unnecessary demanding for the dollars keeping the cedis down.

Dubai looks more beautiful in photos post than london , but nah , infrastructure wise , london is still way miles ahead . You check fact and data and not photos .

The best way to know which country manufacture (truly) - leave what your lying NBS stats body does - is to check 1) taxation and 2) very easily who import finished manufactured goods. That is best way to counter-check. Large manufacturing meaning VAT and such kind of taxes would baloon. This why countries try to become manufacturing giant - because it easy to tax goods, employees etc,

Granted - let us look at who import and export FINISHED Manufactured goods. This you cannot just lie in - because another country has to confirm.

It would be similar to we export 600M dollars worth of aircraft and ships to Namibia smiley smiley

Import is not the problem. Even South Africa and Egypt imports more than Nigeria.
These three countries import the most but produce the most as well.
No African country is a giant yet in terms of manufacture of finished goods (South Africa
doing the most here) and Kenya is definitely not close.

I wish you can concentrate on the sick Cedis - because kenya and it's macro-economics are just pretty impressive. Currency, Inflation, Interest, name it are single digit. We only have problem with debt to gdp but it still below 70.

When it come to Kshs - CBK job has been to ensure stability of currency - if it to depreciate - it does so slowly - because you want to avoid Ghana like panic now. CBK use to intervene to buy and sell forex whenever there was problem on the commercial forex market. Now it has allowed KSH to depreciate/devalue to 120 - which was the goal - and it's been done gradually - 1shs every month almost the last two years. IMF wanted it done "immediately" and CBK disagree - and they said ohoo KSH is managed - not free floating. Our biggest problem really was within East Africa - KSHS was become too strong and our exports were going down.

Now explain to us why CEDIS has dropped - and dont hide behind other countries - because CEDIS as we speak is 150% down - and world worst currency - and all other indicators are screaming murder.

Kenya is doing great. Ghana is in a midst of big crisis. Dont project.

cedi goods has to be competitive in west Africa hence we can't keep having a highly valuable currency in the mist who can't afford ours, even in the mist of all the production advantages we have. Which means allowing the cedi to fall so we can get favorable market condition...
Reason for cedi fall is because BOG intentionally took out lots of forex from the market as an intentional policy decision.

Today Ghana export is 22 billion, that is going to hit 30 billion dollars by 2025....

Dont parrot things you dont know.
You export nothing to the region - apart from electricity to Burkina faso.
You top 10 export countries none is in West Africa.
Kenya is different and almost unique because we trade 50% within Africa.
Our biggest export destinations are our neighbeours - TZ/Uganda/etc
It's in our interest to have weaker Kshs than them.
But Ghana - weaken cedis with your large import - and zero export to the region - large debt in dollars.
You're committing economic suicide as we speak.

Your export mere 160K dollars worth of good to Nigeria and Togo - as we go further to top 20 countries.

In short you're far from engaging in regional trade - as you LACK INDUSTRIAL CAPACITY

Youre still export aluminimum, gold, oil and cocoa beans outside Africa.

Exporting gold has zero multiplier. You can export 10B dollars worth of gold - only Anglo Ashanti & your naive corrupt gov will feel some impact.
Exporting 500M worth of apparel like we do to US...huge multiplier.
We have to engage 100,000 people to stich those apparels and export to US.
That is difference
Exporting horticultural goods - huge multiplier - these are so called industries without smoke because of the value chain.
Our 7 Billion of export has a MULTIPLIER close to 10.
That turns 7 Billion to 70B.
Your exporting raw extracted mineral...multiplier is almost 1-2 - zero impact.
Apart from Cocoa beans - which you need to improve on.

Economy end of the day is velocity of money - how you make the same money touch many people hands.

Gold mine straight to Anglo Ashanti or Oil well straight to SHELL - very little impact. That is why Nigeria and Africa is very poor. The extractive sector has little multiplier...Asians take your minerals - have many people touching it - getting employed by it - creating VALUE out of it.

KShs was said to be over-valued way back in 2019 I think - because it had stubborn stuck at 85-100.
CEDIS has depricated now to 157% - and there is no end in sight.
IMF deal unlikely until march earliest.
By then your economy will be dead like Sri Lanka.
What will stop the panic now? Who will restore confidence in CEDIS?
Now that IMF will take time.

Your economy has no positive effect on Kenyans, hence the increasing unemployment in Kenya and a lesser share of the middle class....
If your economy had a trickle down effect, like Ghana has, Kenya middle class will not be a mere 13% of population but around 50% like GHANA.

Also, Ghana is in no rush for an IMF program.... In fact we are the one not ready to send an intent letter to engage the fund.

yes because 12 billion is greater than our 7 billion fold export.

I just explained what trickle down economy is to you ... It is reflective of why unemployment is higher in Kenya than in Ghana. It is also reflective of why the middle class in Ghana is larger than in Kenya and it is also reflective of why poverty is higher in Kenya than in Ghana.

95% of all mineral export receipt are retained in Ghana... Infact all mining firms at the moment have been pumping more money into development than they are currently making.

If trickle down wasn't working like Australia, Brazil and Mexicao will still be poor today but because it work, so many of their citizens have been lifted out of poverty..

There are 40,000mine workers in Ghana and their activities support the livelihood of 4.5 million Ghanaians.... There are less than 10,000 bicycle factory workers.

Trickle down economics has failed in Kenya because Kenya has focused of fake data reporting and fraud rather than sound economics... There's no reason why you should grown at more than 5% for 10 years without an explosion in the size of your middle class or a significant reduction in poverty.
