Why does it seems like Nigerians born abroad tend to look down on Nigerians born in Nigeria? I've noticed this mostly with some YouTubers on YouTube and it got me curious.

So, I was wondering if I could get more clarity from you guys.

Is it just me, or Nigerians born abroad look down on Nigerians born in Nigeria?

I guess maybe it's cos I grew up in Nigeria and still based here. But you are right sha

All my cousins in the US behave that way when they visit Nigeria. My cousin sisters are the worst.
It's a disaster for all guys each time they return to the village

The rich look down on the poor in Nigeria, those living in lagos, ph, abuja look down on others living in rural areas. Educated look down on non educated, bsc looks down on hnd holder etc. its part of Nigerian culture . Many of the Nigerian born abroad grew up with people from their home countries or other non Nigerians. And can’t relate with you born in Nigeria or your struggles. Your world view on sex, liberation, finances , marriage, life ambitions are not even same. If i was a Nigerian born abroad i may even avoid Nigerians based on this . Simply put they dont care about you. But u as nigerian born in Nigeria wan form by force familiarity ba. Then again not all of them are like that.

I did mine as a subject from primary until high school and we only speak Sepedi at home, so yes, I'm perfect in speaking my home language.

And I'm gonna make sure that my kids are fluent in it too, I'll take them to a school that consist of Sepedi as a subject, either as a home language or as a second additional language.

In schools here local languages are also taught too..most homes use both languages. Some use mostly English like mine and d once a while native..but I understand it well but wen I open my mouth to speak English cones first else am with the very old people them.i speak my language grin
Re: Clarity Regarding Nigerians Born Abroad And Nigerians Born In Nigeria. by Nobody: 3:27pm On Nov 17, 2022
But I don't get it, if local languages are taught in your schools, how come it seems like a lot of Nigerians are not fluent in their home languages, at least those that I've come across in the past.

I'm the kind of a person that believes in preserving our African languages for the future generations to come.

And when you talk of English, do you mean pure English or that broken English that you guys mostly speak, I forgot the other name for it.

Thanks for the explanation.

Please preserve that Anang language by teaching it to your kids.
