Mr. Intelleshual. British government in connivance with Anglican church used Roman Catholicism to control the Igbo tribe. Once I read it in a book I am biased to believe (regardless of facts) it must be true. |

A001: I can only shake my head. There is a Redeemed church in almost every country in the world. Is it the Nigerian Government that is opening Redeem parishes everywhere? Mr man, apply some logic na? If your position is that there were British Missionaries in Nigeria, I have never disputed that, and in fact I was the one that first discussed missionary spread in Nigeria. If your position is that because the Missionaries were British, then they were sent by the same Government that was heavily restricting them in Nigeria, then bruv... The British Government in Nigeria under the man who literally created the country and whose girlfriend gave us the name, was actively focused on preventing Missionaries from penetrating too deeply into Nigeria. Lord Lugard even said with his own mouth that he believed Islam was better suited to Nigerians than Christianity because it allowed for polygamy and felt more like an indigenous religion for us. So the logic of Christianity setting us back makes no sense at all. If anything, the colonial rulers clearly felt that Christianity was enlightening us too much 3 Likes

Today in Port Harcourt Obi just threw the entire Labor Party candidates under the bus. He only cares about his own position and the others in labor can go to Hell. Same problem he had in APGA https://www.nairaland.com/7438189/despite-having-lp-gov-candidate "If we leave State for am, he go leave Federal for us" So we will negotiate it. We know you are in charge we will not quarell with you anyone who quarels with you doesn't know what he is doing I am begging give us this one take all the others" https://twitter.com/deeoneayekooto/status/1593268513841582081?s=46&t=4aE0Q84zCODtnv9_xnyE4g izzou, theflint, blueraydick segendinho and other speech renovators work don start I wonder how all the Labor candidates in Rivers State feel after this, and the quest to reject both parties and embrace a "new Nigeria" |

A001:You are arguing that governments institutionalize religion to control the denizens. Someone challenged you by demonstrating how within Nigeria, Roman Catholicism pervaded the Igbo nation and even made them more insubordinate to the British colonialists. You disagreed by using the blanket term "Christianity" to cover for the gap in your logic whilst forgetting that British missionaries who were almost entirely Anglican, could not have been responsible for spreading Roman Catholicism or any religion especially when it was counter productive to what the colonialists would have needed to subjugate their colonies. So if the Igbos became predominantly catholic under British imperialists, it is nonsensical to blame the imperialists for their catholicism. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

nihilistjnr:Lols. Church of England na private church? This man is so funny. It's a well known fact that the missionaries then were either funded or supported by the government. This is such a ridiculous take. Comparing churches that have become pure water now to the 19th century when they were so scarce, only introduced by the colonialists that also controlled their activities. I see you're among the so-called enlightened people that saw English dresses and English language (without looking at the content of what's said in the language) as signs of enlightenment. If not, you wouldn't have echoed the childish sentiment of some people that equated anything European as signs of enlightenment and anything African as backward. This mentality reeks of deep-seated inferiority complex and self-hate. They're whites and look like angels and our lord Jesus Christ, and their religion, language, and ways must be pure. Na that childish mentality made some Africans sold out their people for just a mirror. Lols. |

The old order of PDP and APC can continue everywhere as long as I get my own ambition Same thing he did to APGA, he finished 2 terms instead of helping the party to expand he jumped immediately to PDP 1 Like 1 Share |

With Wike support for Obi today, the pattern is becoming clearer Wike will achieve Tinubu goals via Obi as proxy. Wike being a self confessed Tinubu man cannot sell Tinubu candidacy to his people but can lock out PDP. Wike gets to support a popular candidate, increasing his popularity whilst simultaneously writing enough results for Tinubu to balance out the National aggregate. I expect all G5 governors will follow the same pattern Obi now becomes the Buhari of SS and SE, battle ground now shifts to the North where Tinubu will hope to get the Governors to write him in enough votes such that SW will tip the scale Atiku now needs to go Uber religious and Uber regional to get the power of Aboki numbers to overcome all these coalitions against him 12 Likes 4 Shares |

Android17:Before you make a fool of yourself further, show me where I told you that GB established Christianity in Iboland. Omo ode. While the Great Britain brought the Anglican doctrine into some parts of Yorubaland, Portuguese missionaries introduced catholicism into Iboland. Whether Protestant denominations or Catholicism, it's all Christianity, and the religion was a key aspect of the campaigns of colonialists in Africa as many historical facts have shown. |

A001:The religion that spread to the Igbos during the colonialist rule of GB was Roman Catholicism. If your argument is that governments usher in religion as a subjugatory tool, does it not follow that GB ushered in Roman Catholicism to control the igbos? Of course, to make your vacuous argument even slightly tenable you have to throw a blanket over Anglicanism and Catholicism. The only major issue that pokes out is that pesky word called British which no sensible person will ever relate with Catholicism. But you are not a sensible person so. . . 6 Likes |
