This is the only reason I hate this 2gr engine. Little overheating and it’s curtain closed You should have changed your timing belt and it’s adjuster at the same time. Whoever did the gasket job didn’t set your engine timing sequence correctly. Your engine needs to be opened up again and the timing correctly set 3 Likes |

HenryWilliams: I don’t know you, I haven’t interacted with you before and I don’t think you have had business transaction with me to talk trash to me. I decided to apologize in that thread and move on not because I do not have my own side of the story but because I treat my customers with utmost respect. Now pls stick to what you know and do not put your busy body in what you do not know. Thanks 4 Likes |

O.p , opening and closing your engine in the name of setting timing will do you no good. To save costs, just change your top cylinder, but not before addressing the underlying causes of overheating. |

If the technicians had very good knowledge of the engine it’s no big deal. 3 Likes |

Let me try my best here. Question: Were the noises there before the overheating job done? If no, then we can say, all your present experiences right now, stems from the recent job done. In summary, the timing on that engine, is way out of the threshold (specified marks), specifically the bank 1 cylinder(the one facing the firewall). The VVTi actuator is either faulty, or filled during installer, or the actuator plastic filter(strainer is clogged with dirts). If you have other concerns, pls let me know. Regards, Joseph |

TRYGO:No noise at all before the engine was opened. Only issue was milky oil, steam from exhaust and misfiring(cylinder 5). No single noise. |

kingreign: IF! If they have knowledge. First off, as an old car, no one knows if the timing marks and colors are still visible, besides I've seen very good mechanics falter in tasks like this because with "timing", nearly doesn't cut it. Secondly, I advised the o.p to fix to whatever could be the reason for overheating , before replacing the top cylinder, as grinding a warped cylinder may not be the best. My opinion |

About the rattling, it has to do with your camshaft having issues . Kindly change the camshaft or get it worked on. i had similar problem after adjusting the camshaft, the car was back to it normal self. If you are in ibadan, i can introduce you to my technician |

Greatest100: I have a rattling noise issue. It was the brief early morning rattling on my lexus es 300, serviced with mobile 5w30 fullysynthetic, with no oil light and no check engine light. I got one used camshaft and mechanic installed after removing my own, I did not hear the noise next morning on startup but there's a persistent small rattling I now have anytime engine is on. When they mechanic was installing the cam i purchased, he set the timing incorrectly and as a result the car did not start normally but made some abnormal noise and jerk like sputtering. He called his mech colleague who set the cam.timing properly and it fired up normal but has that persistent ratting noise. I have no drivability issue whatsoever and this noise is so small u have to pop the hood to hear it so obviously u can only notice it while idling with hood open and I know it's unusual and it's coming from the top of the engine. And while idling and i rev the engine, the noise does not increase in tempo sort of. It's just there and I do not like it. What do I do? Try another camshaft, or change the entire engine top so these noises will go away and engine will be almost silent like before. I've been searching online to see if my engine have been ruined because of setting the timing incorrectly but can't find because the 1mzfe is not an interference engine so to speak. Cc gazzuz |
