Pierocash: I disagree with the bolded They can never have higher standard of living than those abroad. Even with the basic minimum wage overseas you can have a well affordable food, pay your rent and other bills and still save a bit with that small job. Example in UK plumbers, Carpenters, bricklayers and all these menial jobs earn decent pay up to 4000 pounds a month Its almost 4 million Naira in Nigeria with exchange rate That amount will properly take care of them. And they will still send something home A woman I got to know was working in Nigerian civil service on level 13. She was fortunate to travel to the US when her department were put for a conference in the US. Fortunately she got Visa and traveled The Lady stayed a bit and was doing minial Job, after working few weeks she discovered that what she made in 6 weeks was more than her annual salary in Nigeria. The Lady decided it was over that she will never return to Nigeria. This was a level 13 officer for civil service. How much those that never reach that level. Abroad offers better opportunities. People still make it here, but the suffering and pain is too much. 2 Likes |

CyberHustle:the question is, why will a successful lawyer here decided to quit his successful career here to japa, to pursue what exactly? If a struggling Nigerian decides to japa, that is quite understandable. But seeing people doing well here , quitting there jobs here to japa. Looking for what exactly? This are the people we are condemning not struggling young Nigerian who sees opportunity to try his destiny elsewhere, those are not the people we are talking about. You can't convince me here to Japa, looking for what? 3 Likes |

Pierocash: Such people have the Naira equivalent to fund a lifestyle for which traders (those that ship in foreign goods make available to them). Otherwise, no such people exist. Also are Agbaje's family members here? If they are, then he's sincere. Otherwise he's being hypocritical. 1 Like |

Ejiakusmith: I like my own second hand citizen. Working from the comfort of my house and managing 20 workers . Arabs, Indians, Lebanese, African American, Hispanics...we give glory to God...but I started with warehouse and construction jobs that were beneath my status when I left. No one said I was too old or a foreigner or needed to get a letter from someone before they hired me. I have peace of mind and get paid weekly. More than enough for my needs and to help others as well. Agbaje can go to blazes. 6 Likes |

I sympathise with Dr Segun Agbaje, Nigeria is full of opportunities. I believe that Bobman22 belongs to a voice of certain individuals and group that are extremely dangerous to Nigeria and have been very damaging. These individuals or group want to politicise every aspect of the Nigeria reality, often employing the language of disgruntled West that sort to marginalise Africa from the world's family (and for decades succeeded ) by utilising the language of War,Famine, Barbarity, Pot-bellied leaders in categorisation of Africa. Sure life can be said to be political however there is a difference between life's politics and Party Politics. Actually, I would go so far as to suggest that the group to which the likes of Bobman22 either belongs or unwittingly endorse are a sinister anti Nigeria force hiding under politics and social concern for the thire true agenda of making Nigeria untenable same way the West succeed against Africa, leading to the marginalisation of Africa from the economic streams that uplifted Asia. The marginalisation isolated Africa, consequently exasperating the understandable growing pains of Africa and caused those to be reinforcing. In addition to self-fulfilling the West mischievous prognosis. Authorities in Nigeria need to work on this Jappanese culture by altering the narrative. Authorities need to return Nigeria to the world's reality instead of letting these forces separate Nigeria from the rest of the World same as the West did to Africa. The reality is this: people in every nation have the right to travel and explore the world. People need not have to justify why they want to travel. Americans emigrate in mass to Europe, specifically Portugal. Indians travel en mass to Europe and America. Forces in Nigeria or abroad studying Nigeria, should not be allowed to position the needs or hunger of Nigerians to explore the world or emigrate as exceptional wants due to some ficticous "Nigeria Condition" then proceed to creat the language for this steeped in thire political or Other agenda. |

djon78:you make me laugh. You say there can never be such people whose standard of living are higher than those abroad? Those ibo guys that sells spare parts are way richer than most of their counter parts abroad,(aside the ones into drug) they don't make pounds or dollar here, but way richer than most Naija youths abroad. You said 4k pounds is 4 million, Yes you are right. But someone making a million naira here will live a more comfortable life than that person earning 4k pounds abroad. only a single room apartment there will cost almost a thousand pounds a month, electricity bills , phone bills ,and the rest tax may gulp another 1k5 pounds. What is left. You better don't be fooled by exchange rate 2 Likes 1 Share |

Gerrard59: It is the oppressive mentality we have in Nigeria. Don't blame him, blame those who take him serious. Migration is a part of life and whoever doesn't believe it should leave it. We all complain about Indians making exploits, are they making it in their land or elsewhere? 1 Like |

Pierocash: People don't just relocate for economic reasons. Security is one, health care is another even education and self identity. In Nigeria! Unless you have money, you are nothing to even a lout o police man. Not saying it doesn't happen abroad but here, is insane.. the abuse, oppression and intimidation is crazy. The health care is terrible. Also most who migrate do so not for themselves but to give their children the opportunities they never had. Opportunity of another passport that gives access to opportunities. Segun is in the 0.5% of Africa. He should move around Lagos to ikotun, ijegun, okoko then decide if people need to leave. A person works in a bank for year with little to she for. 1 Like |

SmartyPants: The vast majority of people who japa today will come back to Nigeria except Nigeria is no more. And in fact, that will even make them to return to contribute to nation-building in a country where they share similar ethnicities. If there is an Oduduwa nation tomorrow, many Yorubas who hitherto don't want to return to present-day Nigeria will gladly return to the new country. Migration is part of life. Segun, Tinubu, Adenuga, Innoson etc., migrated during their prime, why the sudden witchcraft at people who are simply copying what their elites did and still do? 2 Likes |

Gerrard59: No let's face the facts. The current wave of migration is of people looking to resettle. Do you know how many doctors leave this coutnry daily? Tech guys too? Even those going via school are generally only using school as a means of escape. Nigerian students brought in the highest mumber of dependents to the UK last year. For what if not settlement? Our society obviously cannot continue like this. 3 Likes |

Pierocash: It's not every place in the UK that have high rents. London have high expensive rent but in the Midlands rent is very cheap food is very affordable. The person can live off on 2700 pounds tax inclusive and still save over a thousand pounds. Why do you think many bankers and other professionals japad in the past couple of years to the UK, US, Canada etc? Because they checked what they are earning here and compared to even a manual laborer abroad it was rubbish. So they relocated My sister was a manager in a big firm in Lagos she relocated to Canada with her husband and children since 4 years ago. Today she is working in a very big firm in Canada My best man a pharmacist left for Canada first week of January this year. He didn't tell anyone. He came back in October to see his very sick mum, told me he will visit again next Easter. He has settled very fine over there My brother's account officer of his Bank relocated to the UK with his wife and children If you know the number of professionals that have left Nigeria in this Buhari period you will be shocked. Nigerian Banks have been hardly hit. Why do you think this Agbaje and Amosun them are complaining? Those overseas country are offering them better pay and good standard of living While this present APC government has messed up the economy. I have activated my own Japa plans the only thing that will make me stay back is if Peter Obi wins this election if not I don go be that and likewise many people I know. This 2023 election is very dicey for Nigeria. Many young enterprising Nigerians will give up on this country if the wrong person takes over. It will be calamitous for this Nation. |

But why are rich people so heartless ? Sir I don't know how many children u have, but I'm pretty sure none of them is in Nigeria. What you're saying will make sense if they're here . our president go abroad to treat himself that alone should tell a sensible human being why he/she must relocate at all cost. 1 Like |

Nteogwuija: The surprising thing people don't know about development...no developed society got to where she is by being divided. If there is no racial superiority/dominance, there is ethnic dominance. The level of development a country has today is based on the cultural characteristics of her dominant ethnic/racial group and how cohesive or divided the society is. It is why South Korea is far more developed than Malaysia or Chile is more developed than Brazil. The more divided a society is along ethnic/racial/religious lines, the poorer and less developed she becomes. In summary, as long as Nigeria is divided - religiously and ethnically - she would never become developed or prosperous. 2 Likes |

bobman22: I acknowledge the severe disconnect. Segun is not qualified to speak to the people leaving the country in search of a better and safer life for their family snd future. But to avoid a polar argument - it must be pointed out that never before have our youths so lacked employable skills not to talk of the ability to innovate and pivot their dreams. Our education system of copy copy, ancient handouts ( for pay) or sex for marks has begun to manifest dire results. In effect our youth are effectively being re- educated by foreigner while the older ones sacrifice a respectable old age within community for a doubtfully unhappy old age - they do this for their children ( I pray their sacrifice is rewarded) At the root of the problem is an outdated education system which is out of step with the modern world. One only has to visit our campuses and you will weep. Innovation and adaptability are key because tech has rendered most Nigerian degrees useless. Everyone must retrain themselves and fight for the future as they best can. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Tell that to Hamzat, who said Peter Obi should not campaign in Lagos and go back to his state, as if Obi wants to be the president of Nigeria, excluding Lagos. Tell that to people in Plateau who cannot farm their lands because of senior citizens called Fulani herdsmen. Tell that to Christians in Southern Kaduna who cannot worship peacefully because they have a demonic governor. Those Christians would live safer and prosperous lives in Singapore, even as second-class citizens. Finally, tell that bullcrap to first-class citizens like yourself who have inhaled generator fumes in Nigeria ever since they were born! 4 Likes 1 Share |
