RSQLPython: From ur moniker i see u do R, SQL and python, with such skills u could develop ur own signals in ur spare time and come here for validation and quality control , there is a lot of data out there to play with. U can check GTCO, it has been falling in a way that is not in tune with its performance. As mentioned here it could be dat some foreign investors are pulling out of it. I thought it was a good buy 2 weeks ago, it still is. Its current closing price is below 15 percentile of its last 10years. Meaning that it is currently trading below 85 percent of all its closing price in d last 10 years. The stock has maintained a growing revenue, pat, equity and eps in d last 10 years. Current dividend payout is above 15% (i think its currently topping d market). Pays dividends without fail annually. Even if d seller(s) is not done pulling out, what ever price drop will be recovered as d market price in its many positives. I advise u crunch the numbers and see for ur self. |

Agbalowomeri: Among d many approaches to market analysis, technicals and fundamentals are d most used. Now, do you imply dis 2 don't work d market? Then what is ur proposed alternative? I don't use algorithms but what do you think algorithms do? Algorithms do d same thing analysts do but faster, repeatedly and without emotions. Also, It is as good as d person who implemented it - gabage in gabage out. Last bullet, what is ur opinion on my post not ur ideas of it, is GTCO under or over valued? 1 Like |

ositadima1: My response was directed at your mention of R, SQL & Python. I am sure you don't need these if the aim is technical and fundamental analyses. From experience, the simpler we keep this, the better the outcome. On GTCO, at least in the short-to-medium term you cannot go wrong at this price. In the long-term, one is uncertain how the company would optimise the HoldCo structure, just like the foreign investors who are pulling out. 2 Likes |

Agbalowomeri: I differ, with d knowledge of python or R u can make ur own custom charts, custom indicators. When u use mainstream charting software u get limited to what they have available. A few example: 1. You want to analyze d effects of inflation on ur stocks, how do u do that with investing . com? 2. Or u want to compare our local bond rates historically and put it in a chart, how do u do dat? 3. Or u interested in charting some fundamentals, how do u do that? 4. Or find a new indicator and want to implement it, how do u do that? 5. Or u interested in finding d best/worst performing stock across d market doring a particular time interval. Once u can code ur own charts be it bar, scatter plots, candle sticks etc u get more flexibility, can reorganize data d way dat suits u best and derive unique incites. Regarding GTCO, correct me if i am wrong, is it not d same management that was running gtb dat is still running GTCO? |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Agbalowomeri: 2:55pm On Nov 19, 2022 |
ositadima1: You are right BUT excel would would do same and much more. Again why do I need these levels of analyses as a retail investor? HoldCo comes with a different level of risk exposure. At some point, I expect the dividend payout for GTCo to trend lower than Zenith. This is already being priced by the market. 2 Likes |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 3:10pm On Nov 19, 2022 |
Agbalowomeri: Ok Sir, d pandas module in python is like excel but better. HoldCo adding asset management and pension fund businesses will reduce dividend payout ? Expanding beyond banking may not be a bad idea if u ask me, but then i am no expert. I see others following dis path in future. |

Agbalowomeri:I wonder how the supposed foreign sellers are able to repatriate their capital. I suspect the major factor may be that they are buying T bills now that rates are good - which may be more liquid for when they get a chance to get their Naira into USD. What I’m learning here is that monetary policy rates has more effect on the performance of stock market than any other thing. 1 Like |

Do some stockbrokers offer private equity investment in private companies? |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 2:11pm On Nov 20, 2022 |
Wapgod: If i am not mistaken that is d job of an investment bank. Stockbrokers link prospective stockholders and buyers/sellers to the stock market floor while providing ancilliary services around d activity. Quoting d book "why stocks go up and down" - "An investment banking firm has nothing to do with banking in the usual sense of checking accounts and personal loans. Rather, an investment bank is a firm that helps businesses raise money by selling new stock or bonds to either the public or as private placements to financial institutions." |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 2:20pm On Nov 20, 2022 |
Wapgod: Yeah, looks like it, but then d extra shares are going to dilute EPS, it is up to d market what it will do with dat piece of info. Based on my math assuming constant EPS: Original EPS = EPS After EPS = EPS/1.25 Change = [(EPS/1.25) - EPS]/EPS = -0.2 EPS drops by 20% |

Can one use more than one broker at the time? I observed that some of these brokers don't have some securities listed in their platforms so would like to know if it is possible |

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmasoft(m): 8:18am On Nov 21, 2022 |
Wapgod: You can use as many brokers as you wish. However, a good and recommended practice is to use a single CHN for all, it's better for you and the regulators if you have the same CHN for easy monitoring and management of your holdings. All stockbroking firms have the same securities on their platform because they are all linked to a single and same platform (NGX) you may need to check on the navigation on a particular broker's platform. 2 Likes 1 Share |
