The useless Tbills is more certain than the gambling in dollar, the reverse might be the case. The dollar is weaker as at today, it's only deemed strong when compared to a weaker currency like ours.

Tbills is a secured investment, better than not investing at all. If I want to take risk, I will take a far better risk like I did last time.

Those that attacked this write up, how far? i am here to learn

Good one from Kuda. Hoping they maintain stability and growth with appropriate oversight.

It'd be good to know how their balance sheet and valuation now compares with traditional Nigerian banks.

If you live in Nigeria you will still convert that dollar to buy things at an exorbitant rate, if you work in Nigeria, the future income you make will be worthless, this is short-term gratification for bigger problems, the problem with Nigeria is Nigerians from the Richest to the Peasant, we are all the same thing
Ironically, our smartness keeps us all down…we think we can outsmart other Nigerians by buying dollars and changing it back to naira when it goes up. The local farmers and local traders are also increasing their prices…who be fool now? grin

The person who holds dollars continue to benefit from his hedge. We either pick emotions or economics, not both.
Holding Naira for 100% of your wealth does not make you more patriotic. In fact, I think you are not only hurting yourself but also subsidizing the economy and enabling the thieves at the CBN who have made it their mandate to fund all government deficits by printing Naira.
Printing money is akin to the government putting money in your pocket and taking part of it.
Excessive printing of money as currently being done by the central bank is the unpatriotic action here, and and private individuals should protect themselves. Deficit spending/printing money started in 2015. It is like drugs, the govt. will find it hard to stop as you'll see.
Why is it that this government is not solving hard problems like subsidy, crude oil theft etc Have you ever seen someone who gets money free go back to working hard?
All the three frontrunners of presidential election have USD exposures. Should anyone be more patriotic than our incoming presidents?
If you like, hold 100% Naira. It may not be a bad idea, but don't insult others.

You are wrong in your analysis, QuinModah: analysis is right.

You kill black markets by making sure there is excess supply of a resource or product. You do not kill black markets by chasing after people that supply that resource.

In your analysis, the people that need water for flowers are valid users of water, that is an industry on its own, you do not go and stifle their business because you want to prioritise other industries.

The solution is to make sure there is adequate supply and all industries get normal supply of water.

Take for example when there is fuel scarcity in nigeria. Most times it is caused because the cost of suppling fuel is no longer profitable but the government wants to control the price.

What the fuel marketers that bought fuel at 180 and being told to sell at 10 naira loss do is to stop selling and find people that will buy it at higher price so they can make a profit. If they do not make profit their business will collapse.

He is not wrong sir. What he did is akin to introducing several real life variables into the simplistic explanation the first writer used in explaining Nigerias scenario…he didn’t discredit the first explanation, he agreed with the first writer but then went further to introduce real life scenarios peculiar to us as a people….

You put it out very clearly.......

Diversify............I need some naira for quick deals here and ther......but I have some in other porfolios. No put all yours eggs in one basket.

For the guy talking abt farmers increasing price.......yes ,I won't hv to change my dollars because I want to buy yam or egusi but my overall porfolio is worth much more than it would hv been if I didn't buy dollar, And my naira isn't sitting ideal either......

Treasury bill may go as high as 16% before the election but could fall back to as low as 7% in the nearest future, if you are a strong fan of passive incomes I think it's a good time to key in to a long-term investment.

No. You receive rental income twice a year for the duration of the investment. At the end of the maturity date, your funds are returned into your bank account.

Homextras:

And what’s the minimum tenure you can subscribe to? Can you subscribe for less than ten years?

Tenure is fixed as stated on the advert. It used to be a 7 year tenure until 2021.

Homextras:

Do they charge withholding tax?

Rental income is tax free.

Key into long term Naira investment and get 12 to 14% when your Naira is depreciating by 50 to 100%? Which kain yamayama advice be this?

Oga right now there are only two feasible options o. Invest that money in fx denominated instruments or spend that Naira and na you know as you go spend am. You can spend it on consumer goods and know say you enjoy your money before it becomes useless or you find correct inflation protected asset like gold, land or house.

My 6 may appear 9 to you, doesn't necessarily make me right nor you wrong. Different strokes for different folks, if all of us shun Naira investments for dollars I wonder what will become of the currency . I calculated a 10m investment on sukuk @15.64 for ten years and a dollar investment @6.5% ( confirmed current price) , even if dollar is changed @#1,200 comes 10 years, the difference is nothing to worry about.
