USA is a good example of how much gameplan, teamwork, strategy, coaching and the right mental state helps in delivering great performances. The US does not have much football talent. At best average. Nigeria and the US are about equal on talent. Infact it can be argued that Nigeria has more football talent than the US. Yet the US has a much better world cup record than Nigeria. You cannot even compare the WC records.

Bingo! You just made my point, right there. I disagree with you that any of the teams you listed adopted defensive tactics in the games in question. The Japan team I watched went toe to toe with Germany from the beginning. Same with the Saudi’s against Argentina.

Good things happen when you play without fear. The number one reason why I recommended that we sack Gernot Rohr was his game plan against Croatia. Unfortunately the clueless NFF delayed his sacking 3 years too late.

And you can add the following games to the list, as well:

USA vs England
Japan vs Germany

O pari

fabyom:
What about France vs Senegal (2002), Saudi vs Argentina (2022), Germany vs Japan (2022), Nigeria vs Centra African Republic and many more teams that defended and nick the win. Football doesn't have a particular format. What works for you might not work for others.

Sad to say this, but Senegal ain’t beating this energetic and skillful Ecuador team.

Stop been negative..

It's your type of negativity that promotes negative football in Nigeria and Africa.

It's about going toe to toe with them and keeping the defensive shape and defensive disciplined.. Senegal can beat them.

Play with confidence and be tactical. Iran vs England, Germany vs Australia etc. Football is about tactics. You can lie in wait and counter or press if you have the qualities on the pitch and the bench. The Ghanaians played 5 at the back against us yet nicked a draw to qualify.

Senegal should have beaten the Dutch, Ecuador were unlucky to draw with Holland. From my own POV, Senegal will struggle to even get a draw against Ecuador, but then anything is possible. Our patch patch team almost got a draw against them in that friendly so anything is possible.

Herve Renard's half time speech to his players before their win over Argentina...
See proper coach ..
I wonder how our own coaches motivate their players in the dressing room.....

Senegal have a very clear path , just beat Ecuador , they will be focused and determined .

Yes Mane is a crucial player for them and a very big loss. But they have a top goalkeeper, a possible world class Defender in Koulibally and one or two maybe more very good players.

If Ecuador keeps it at 1 nil then Senegal will have to defeat Ecuador to face England.
The Senegalese should have put Qatar away by at least 3 to 4 nil.

The Senegalese team lacks quality players from midfield to attack.
Senegal and Cameroon have the weakest African team at this tournament.

I have high hopes for Morrocco and Tunisia.

Ghana group is tough. The Ghanaians seem susceptible to counter and lack real quality on the bench. Korea and Uruguay will be a tough game for the Ghanaians.
The loss to Portugal will hurt the Ghanaians cos I don't see the Portuguese defeating any other team in that group.

If by comparison yes the African teams are not filled with world top level players. Senegal group is wide open , a note of caution a wounded Lion is at its most dangerous.

Very few teams can match Senegal for physicality, athleticism and if they add determination and belief they will beat Ecuador. I think Senegal got stage fright against a lackluster Netherland, that they should have beaten.

I would then Expect Senegal to beat a clueless boring without any invention England. Watching Thier match against USA who should have won was like watching paint dry on a wall. They showed no guile, invention and belief they were just hapless, a fancy ship with no rudder.

Two extremes on this thread:

Those who believe SE is shit.
Those who see them or some of the players as world class or above average.

These extremes are fluid and the loudness or silence of their voices depends on the fortunes of the SE.

When SE is doing badly, the first group will go to town wearing babaringa and beating their chest. Ohh they sing and cheer with joy

When SE is doing well, the second group will blow their trumpet and crown the Eagles king.

Today is the season of the first group. They've been quite loud. Second group is biding their time.

Unfortunately we didn't even qualify to make the comparison.

The SE is not a top class team by any stretch of the imagination. The current crop are a far cry from the SE of the 1990's and very early millennium.

And we have mostly performed above expectations considering our personal in recent times. Failing to qualify was a very good reality check .

But unfortunately we have not accepted failure, we feel were cheated or just unlucky. That means we will continue to fail. The acceptance of FAILURE is the beginning of SUCCESS.

We have not addressed our failing and have no radical transformation strategy and plan to take us forward. The recent friendly that should have been used to test new players doing well in league and club. Instead we called Shehu, and other that should be really Forgotten.

As a result the rot continues.

I think you should add a third group the pragmatic , objective and brutally honest , greater expectations group.

Senegal was leading and its wiser to keep possession than lose possession and concede from a counter attack... its also called recycling.

it also has to do with the player, for example, if a player's dominant foot is his right foot and his playing on the left wing he can't cross the ball easily , he will have to spin the ball to cross it or turn backwards to move the ball to his right foot and cross with his right foot or completely stop ball then cross...

I disagree with you.

A youth player in a good quality premier League academy or similar by the age of 11/12 will have been taught to be ambidextrous with both feet. At 14 the top players will have that skill set instinctively. I am talking from experience not just hearsay.

Have you noticed that Ademola and Aina have both feet proficiency although a stronger right foot.

Arnold Trent has that ability, it's now become an expectation for the players at the top of their game.

Senegal doesn't have a good team. All these na sugar coating. They barely score from open play. With Mane injured they will score no single goal at the world cup. Mark this post.

When you talk so much, you end up capping a lot of nonsense.

Example 1 is above. More to come.

He even said, "Mark this post". grin

Oya I have marked it and brought it up now again in the light of yesterday's results. This is what happens when you don't calm down to reason out football takes before your drop them.

With that said... I must admit, Senegal are in for a very tough battle vs Ecuador.

See what Ecuador did to my Dutch boys. Fought them to a standstill. Senegal have to be extra prepared and must produce a performance better than what they showed against Host nation, Qatar if they must be in the round of 16.

Anyway, like I said on Naijafootballers TV Show, Football cruise (check link below)...

"My teams are Brazil, Netherlands and Morocco."

Always have been my favourite international teams from childhood outside the Super Eagles who aren't in Qatar. So yeah. We move.
