Check the time the ATM card was seized through the bank CCTV and the time the debit alerts started coming.

The girls are the prime suspects here.

Similar thinks happed while I was working in the bank but I was able to get the fact tru cctv that was after the customer has call us various name. Tru the cctv. The customer ask someone to help him to use the ATM machine, he first check balance the delibratly drop the card on the floor, at the point of picking it, he swap the card with another one and give it to the man, the man unknowingly that his card has been swap inserted it into the machine and imputed his pin, that was how the cared was sized and he came to complain that his card has been seized, I brought out the card inside the machine and his card was not there. As we were discussing he stated receiving alert. Before we could block his account, the fellow has transferred almost 500k.
Now he insisted that it was the bank staff that withdraw his money but cctv unveil the truth.

Those ladies actually compromise. Somehow someone swap the card from them

Just exactly what I was about typing. A crooked former fellow student, I was once told is into this type of fraudulent activity. They hang around ATM machines and prey on elderly persons by pretending to want to help you like they are part of the bank staffs. They are usually well dressed, so you won't suspect them. He'll switch your card while asking you to input your pin. After three attempt, the card will be seized and you will be directed to go inside and complain to the customer care, by which time he would have disappeared with your original card and use it else where to make withdrawal. He and others usually have different ATM cards on them to swap with and I believe some bank security knows about their fraudulent activities cos why will someone who is not part of the bank staff loiter around an ATM machine and is not being questioned or chased away.
Sorry to the POS agent. The last part of the video was not shown to them cos it will expose the security negligence of the bank.

I dey feel like say na person for inside bank run am because the girls said immediately they seized the ATM the told security and it was security that told them to go and complain to customer service, we asked the security and he confirmed but this is Nigeria and it's also possible that the girls planned it from the onset

OP. Similar thing happened to a colleague of mine. The bank officials told him the ATMs are programmed to release seized cards after 30 mins. Even his own parent institution (FBN) said same thing about their ATMs. The question was: how many customers are aware of the new programming? Another angle to it was, how did the person who later made the withdrawal get his PIN? They said he must have been looking over his shoulders while he was trying to use it. The Truth is this, banks are complicit in this fraud, someone in the IT department is involved. I even fear the ATM stores PIN these days.

I still wonder how people think, A Banker can not take your money, how we they know your Pin, to me the Bank is out of it, I am suspecting it to be a Card Swap, someone might have volunteered to assist the girls withdraw and at that point swap the card. If you check the card that was retained you we see that it is a wrong card. The reason why it was retained was that they where using the wrong PIN on the swapped card.
Secondly, I think you should involve security agencies for the Bank to show you the complete footage. Let all be careful, don't give out your Card. God bless you

That was the reason I said you shld beg him. Cctv must be kept for some numbers of years.
It's not mandatory to take any police or court order for you to see cctv. Don't fight the bank staffs. Am sure they are innocent. If you are fighting wt them, they might ask you to go and get report.
Even the ATM have camera that will be snapping continuously immidatly you inserted ur card. The first picture will show the face of the fraudsters.

Unfortunately, that money is gone. The best you can do to help that innocent neighbour of yours is by giving her a hard knacking.

Good day guys, this story actually happened to my neighbor, she's a POS operator, she sent 2 girls to go to the ATM to withdraw money for her so that she can use the money for her pos business, this isn't the first time she'll be sending them..

The girls went to the ATM and called the POS operator that they seized her card and bank said they can't give them the card and she has to come to the bank to get the card, so my neighbor rushed to the bank only for customer care representative to tell her that the card isn't in the bank, before you know it my neighbor was debited 150k from a POS , that means someone used her card to debit the money.

The problem now is the girls said ATM seized the card and bank are saying they didn't seize any card, my neighbor demanded for CCTV footage, bank showed her when they 2 girls were on quoque but didn't agree to show her the complete footage of the CCTV, that is to know if they actually seized the card, bank are claiming that they didn't seize the card but why can't they show us the complete footage? It's possible that someone from the bank took the debit card and withdrew the money and they're trying to cover for the person because I don't know why they're refusing to show us the complete footage..

Another scenario is that the girls planned it and Gave someone the ATM to go to pos and withdraw the money, my neighbor was able to track the POS people because she too is a POS operator and they told her that it was a guy that came to withdraw the money, now what I'm thinking is that the girls gave the guy the pin and ATM card because it's not possible for the guy to know the pin just like that without someone telling him the pin, but another thing that is confusing us again is that bank that is refusing to show the complete footage for us to ascertain if they truly seized the card.

My neighbor don't want to lock up the girls because they're her church members but 150k is a lot of money. Nairalanders please we really need your help, how do we go about this? Moderators please move this to front page so more people can give insights

Modified: According to the girls, immediately the card was seized by the ATM, they told security and security directed them to customer care, my neighbor asked the security and he confirmed but this is Nigeria anything can still happen, it's either an Insider in the bank or the girls

Bro is it possible for someone in the bank to know your ATM pin? It's not because the money was withdrawn through pos, we tracked the POS and they said a guy came to withdraw the money, the best scenario is that those girls used another ATM card so that it'll be seized, and they took the real ATM to withdraw the money

Inviting them to the police and not calling it arrest. Just let them feel like the police is doing some investigation to get the bank staffs arrested and sue them. They will feel comfortable going to the police station.
Don't lock them up. If they come to the station they should go back home.

If truly they did it police have a way of discovery them. For instance, put both in different room and say that the A party acusses the B party. Police will play mind games with them.

Your neighbor does not want to soil her name in the fellowship.

One thing is a crime committed by two people is the easiest to discover. One will always fall if they are both guilty.

Forget bank. Bank cannot get your pin. If they did they wont use POS almost immediately.

Forget swap. The people you employed are not dumbass. They were two. Will two be gullible.

Deep!! I'll have to ask them to know if they gave someone the card at the ATM, maybe the person swapped the card, but i don't think they'll be dumb enough to give someone the card and still tell the person the pin, mind you they are 2 girls . Is there a reason for the bank to not show us the CCTV footage of when they seized the card? Or what should I do to enable me get the footage?

Go and get a court order to see the CCTV footage.

Get the useless police involved, get a lawyer too... You have no grounds to arrest the girls, they gave their own story accusing the bank, now it's left for the bank to exonerate itself by providing the full CCTV tape... I suspect the bank is the thief by 90%

How will the bank workers be able to know the person's pin? Because it was withdrawn through pos

This is a lie. No ATM will release a card that has been seized after 30 minutes, don’t spread false narratives.

OP, the customer can ask the bank to confirm the card details entered into the machine at the time the girls put in the card. The bank can do that by printing the ATM journal, they don’t need to show you the CCTV, just confirm that the card digits on their journal (first 6 and last 4) matches with yours. Your can also give them these digits ( last 4 digits at least) and ask them to confirm from the journal if any card with those digits was indeed inserted in the machine. If it matches, the journal will state if the card was actually retained or not. If the card was retained, then the bank is culpable, if it wasn’t retained, then the girls are culpable. The ATM journal is automatically recorded and cannot be altered so trust that it’s the truth.

If the card details on the journal do not match with yours, then the girls have to explain what happened to the card and why they put a different card in the machine and claimed it was yours.

This method however is only helpful if you at least know the last 4 digits of your card at least.

The bank is the second suspect

Oga, I'm telling you what bank officials told my colleague in the presence of a lawyer. You can say they were lieing, don't tell me my narrative is false. They said their ATM is now programmed to release seized cards after some time. He went to his own bank, they told him theirs works same way too. I'm telling OP the bank system is now flawed, and you're trying to state otherwise. Wait till it happens to you, and we'll see how smart you are.
