Doing business in Nigeria is really frustrating now. The cost of materials couple with logistic is very cra3y. The way price of goods goes up every day is mad and killing

Things are getting worse in this country day by day. Before we can fix this country even if we got the right candidate, it would take another 8years.

If you have the means please leave then come back when everything is right.
Those who are saying slave mentality have a way they are getting their money that makes them think that way which everybody doesnt have access to.

I am I to Agribusiness but it is tiring now. Just look around as Agriculture is not booming anymore like before

The most unfortunate thing is that majority of the people running away from Nigeria as a result of failed government of Buhari and APC are still planning to vote APC before they leave, and even deceiving their family and friends that a walking dead man with too many scandals (age, names, parenthood, state of origin, educational background, source of wealth) is the right person to correct the humongous mistakes of APC government of today angry

Any Nigerian planning to japa and still supporting APC to remain in power beyond June 2023, my sincere prayer for you is that whichever country you are migrating to, may you and your family witness the same progress Nigerians in Nigeria are witnessing under APC. May the forces of nature serve you the same good leadership Buhari and APC served Nigerians in that new country you are running to angry

I always tell people that japa is not for the poor. It's the middle class that can actually afford to relocate. Right now it's all about herd mentality. Many are like a bull going to the slaughter house. No concrete plan.

I actually wish them goodluck. They will sweat and grind for every penny. Nothing is given freely.

Whilst I know the country failed them, I also know that this is second slavery. The West don't need guns and mirrors anymore, they just need to dangle visas and tweak their policies a little and our best hands will run and go slaving for them, whilst their citizens idle away and enjoy the fruit of our peoples hardwork. Just like the days of old.

The West got this advanced with the sweat of Africans and other less developed nations. They're still doing same till date. It's pathetic.
A level 12 civil servant earns about 200k in Nigeria
Left Nigeria and could save more than 200k after expenses
Everyone works hard abroad even the citizens, don't say what you don't know

Why are northerners not too fascinated with the japa fever, 8 out of every 10 relocating are from Southern Nigeria!!

Take out one day to visit Federal Ministries and parastatals. It is filled with highly educated and semi-educated Northerners. All they do is wear senator material and leather sandals. Moving from one angle to the other. From Thursday they have disappeared from the office to return on Monday. You will understand that na them get this country truly.

You just need to visit one to understand the agitation and anger of Southerners. Why shouldn’t Southerners japa?

Ya’ll should stop preaching nonsense under every immigration thread about using the POF to do something in Nigeria. People migrate for different reasons. Nigerians don’t even migrate the way Chinese or Indians do. Yet, you hardly see people trying to make them feel they made an irrational decision to leave their country. But Nigerians are quick to write a long epistle of why investing or staying in Nigeria is better as if they care about the people JAPA-ing. Not sure if it’s jealousy or I too know syndrome

Has to be the former.

The problem with your write-up and most response is the fact that you guys are using your capacity, choice and purpose to measure others, Japa as you put it is for people that wants more in life, there country is not offering them such opportunity.
While others problem is Money, there are people there's are security and peace of mind at any cost.
Those leaving are not wiser than those not leaving the country...
One major setback in Nigeria is the inability of people respecting the choice of others.

Life is a choice and everyone is responsible for their respective choices. If you want to make money stay in Nigeria is easier, if you want to live life as human being, Nigeria won't offer you that.

Have a conversation with age 20-30 years in Nigeria, they have nothing to hold unto because the system is not providing anything.
Nigerian problems is not about who becomes president is systemic.

Allow those that moved enjoy their time and enjoy your yours. When you have the opportunity you will move too. Is just a matter of time.

Last Friday, I hugged one of my most impressive colleagues goodbye. He turned away, sobbing. I turned away with voice quaking, realizing what a big loss he would be.

Later that evening, I had another get-together with a second friend who relocates this week. While discussing his massive expense, he suddenly slouched in his chair, stressfully squeezed the empty ragolis bottle in his hands and concluded:

"Oremi, this relocation has cost me almost everything"
"You don’t want to know!" He further sighed "You don’t."

Today, with the help and data from three (3) relocating friends, I compile the rough cost (below) for prospective relocating families (focus on UK) and a poem for my friend and Nigeria:

Cost of Japa from Nigeria for a family of 4= 180k
Renewal of Passport
Official rate 22k
Accelerated rate 45k
Some pay as high as 75k

Transcript 75k
Usually, one parent is a student
30-45k for school runs
25-30k to send

Estimated Tuition fee deposit
11,000-18,000-pound sterling
4.5m most schools want 50% deposit

Proof of fund (In deposit)
Family of 4 need 25m in deposited in an accoun 2-3 months

UK Visa 1.4m
Family of 4 pay 475-pound sterling

NHF
Family of 4 pay 875-pound sterling

Flight ticket 2.8m
Depending on booking
700k person x4
Some have booked as high as 1.2m

Arrival Accommodation 4.4m
1st Month shortlet 200-pound sterling per week
refundable deposit of 250 pound
First 6 months at 750 pounds

Total Cost 19m for family of four to UK not Canada or US. It can be cheaper or more

Oremi, I hope we meet again,
as you japa to find fresh grain,
to return if Nigeria again reigns?
God, will any leader ever end this drain?
But prayers will be in vain,
if in 2023, unwisely we vote again.

God bless everyone who has relocated. God bless everyone staying behind. God bless #Nigeria.

I hope you are not praying amiss for the current Nigeria.......better to Pray God enthrones a new Nigeria, where all citizens are valued equally and socio economic conditions are favorable to all..............!

The West can use the sweat of Africans because Africans don't have a clue what's going on around them. Africans (Nigerians especially) are very arrogant in their ignorance, selfish in the extreme, naive to the competition going on among the races, very outwardly religious but inwardly bereft of morals/ethics. Think of it. Why is it so hard for Nigeria to generate simple electricity for its citizens & businesses? Why does it seem as if everything in Nigeria is rocket science? You can blame the west all you want, but it's about time the black man took responsibility for his situation in life!

Most are leaving becasue of security and Peace of mind. Most people think travelling abroad is about making money to become rich and have extravagant life style like buying luxury cars, flying 1st class etc. I can bet majority are leaving for their sanity and solid future for their generation. Lagos alone is frustrating with its mad daily activities. Now add Nigeria govt and their non working systems to it.

I remember this song of the 80s,
Nigeria go survive
Africa go survive
My people go survive oo
Africa go survive.
Andrew dont check out oooo
The way he replied with a frown face " SAY WHAT"

I am sure Andrew and his generation will be thanking their star now.

Over 20years ago, Nigeria has not survived. Even getting most worsted every day and it is not looking like it will if we continue like this.

It's simple bro. As black people, we're in competition with all the other racial groups - white, brown, etc. We are competing for economic resources first, then dignity and respect. As you can see, every single racial group has put themselves above us. If they're contributing to the chaos in our lands, it's because they want to stay ahead of us. It's for same reason slavery and colonialism happened - to steal economic resources and rob us of our humanity/dignity. That should worry us, right? Does Buhari or Hope Uzodinma know this? Hell no! They're clueless - but those are the ones ruling us. I wish they lock myself and those morons in one room and take away the key, so I can drum this into their empty brains.

Which kind of japa be dis? Why not improve yourself here before moving?

I have a relation who is an expatriate. His japa story started when he published a piece in an international journal of repute in his field. The article was read by industry experts. He already has done several certifications relevant to his area.

A certain recruiter saw the article, checked his LinkedIn profile and called him up from the Middle East for an interview.

Long story short. Company paid for his flight, family relocation, kept them in hotel for two months, before he got a house. Company is also paying his child's fees till university.

Japa get levels depending on how you go about it. Most of the hard work in self development has to start in Naija.

The leaders don't know that but did you attributes that to black man intrinsic lack of intelligence (in a much larger context), remember ordinary people put them there.

The minimum wage in the Uk is 500 pounds a week after tax ....(jobs like cleaner, factory workers, Healthcare assistant) UK.workers are not.cheap like nigeria workers...

500 * 4 week is 2000 pounds
2000* 12 months is 24k in a year excluding some benefits like holiday pay etc

Now your expenses ....
As a beginner, you need to maintain low.profile or else you will not retain all this money....
Someone that saved 30k pounds have to maintain low profile for her to save that kind of money or else you will keep looking for loan....

Please, I want to see that person that has saved 30k pounds. Show me one.

In the US, studies have shown that less than 15% of the populace have any savings at all. Less than half this number have up to 10,000 dollars savings.

Some people think it is easy to save 10k pounds, talk less of 30k pounds.

Team JAPA are among the lazy and irrational citizens. I wonder why many don’t think of the reason why they found themeselves to be citizens of Nigeria.

JAPA mentality IMO you have no plan to influence your nation or your society, it appears you’re not in tune with the purpose of your existence but only focused on your personal interest.

We’ve been lied to that life is what we felt it is when actually it’s extremely the opposite of what we’ve been told.

Don’t be surprised that citizens of civilized countries are tied of their country just as we’re tied too. Strict laws we don’t follow here, you’ll get there and comport yourself meanwhile, their citizens are tied of such laws cause they know some countries are lawless.

Wow, humanity on the run to nowhere when nothing is chasing them but themselves and they lament it’s life.
This money for relocation is enough to set up a micro enterprise to meet the fast growing population in Nigeria / Neighboring African country, with a plan for upgrade of the business as the cash flow increases. There is no free launch any where in the world. Africa has a lot of gap and opportunities to be filled and harnessed. All the same relocation is good with respective individual evaluation of the opportunities and risk.
For every thing in life, there is time and season for every one, so it is always good to get prepared for the opportunities.

My advise is that individual should relocate on personal reasons and not because your close friend or family member has travelled to the UK or Canada, The case varies and individual potentials, opportunities and luck varies.

A family of 4 that have truly "Japa" to the UK knows your total initial cost is highly exaggerated for the popular one-year masters.

1. School fees can be paid at an official rate (less than 500 nairas) and some schools require a 2k or 5k pounds deposit. This drops the tuition deposit to about 1m to 2.5m. If I assume a 5k deposit, it saves 2m nairas compared to yours.

2. For proof of funds (in interest), you need tuition balance + living expenses. Most school tuition is less than 13,000 pounds, and there are schools with less than 10000 pounds tuition. If you deposit 5000 pounds (2.5m nairas) for a 13,000-pound school, you will need about 8000 pounds (4m nairas) more for the tuition balance. You will also need 29,000 pounds for living expenses for a family of 4 outside London. (29,000+8000) pounds= 37,000 pounds (about 17.5m naira). At 3.5% interest, 17.5m naira will yield 612,500 naira. Saves about 1.9 million nairas compared to yours.

To-be continued..
All the best.!
Peace

U make sense bro
