Ghana vs Uruguay

The ball is going in and Ghana are about to become the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final. There is no way back for Uruguay. Not in the last moments of extra-time. But Luis Suarez is about to change things with one of the most famous handballs in history.

That instinctive action provides the delicious backstory to one of football's more unlikely rivalries. Twelve years on from South Africa in 2010, Ghana and Uruguay are reunited and once again World Cup progress is on the line. Once again, Suarez stands in the way.

Derek Boateng was on the bench for Ghana when the drama unfolded in Soccer City, Johannesburg. He watched on as Suarez was red carded, saw Asamoah Gyan miss the resulting penalty and was helpless as the subsequent penalty shootout was lost.

Best Ghana can get is a Draw which will likely be sufficient to qualify.

I remember that match...

The way Suarez rejoiced after Gyan lost that penalty, it was like he knew Uruguay had what it took to win the match.

Today, might be a different ball game. The Ghanaians are aiming for revenge?

Battle of the fittest...!

Things are a bit dicey for the remaining 3 teams since Portugal has qualified and is definitely topping the group.

Uruguay needs a high margin win to proceed.

Ghana needs either a win or a draw (Draw could be dicey if Korea pulls off an unimaginable upset against Portugal).

Korea just has to win with a high margin while praying that Uruguay wins with a low margin (highly improbable)!

In all, this is Ghana's to lose at this point!!! A simple routine or narrow win and they are home! cool
Losing should never be an option!

... If fifa were to be smart in their rules, such incidence should have been a goal or a penalty without a goalie... We all know that's clearly a goal and such rules would refrain players committing foul play and even if it happens, final decision should be a GOAL and not penalty... Penalty is 50-50 with a goalie and 99.9 chance of scoring without a goalie, why because they're some kind of players that would still miss from the spot without a goalie.....lol

Do you blame Luis Suarez for the hand ball or Asamoa Gyan who missed a very crucial penalty to savage the situation?

nairalanders will never cease to amaze me, a goal awarded without the ball crossing the line?
Suarez is simply hand of God just like Maradona's, failure to see it so is hypocrisy
The blame should be on Asamoah Gyan for dumping his country out of 2010 world cup

Yes, that should have been a goal and Gyan shouldn't be blamed cos penalty is 50- 50... the ball was clearly directed towards goal and suarez knew the implications of his actions... Note: I'm not blaming suarez but fifa rules here needs a review. Players would be discouraged from committing such and even if they default, goal stands...
