I believe the exact same thing played out when Obaseki ran for second term for Edo State Governor.

Edo Gubernatorial elections
2016 Obaseki APC vs Ize-Iyamu PDP

2020 Obaseki PDP vs Ize-Iyamu APC

Which one is the evil party again and what makes one evil

In the past 8yrs

Oil prices plunged around 2016 that put all oil dependent economy into a recession

Covid came in 2020 and plunged most economy in the entire world into a recession

A few google search will show this.

Which of these would have been prevented if Atiku, Obi, Jonathan or Obama was president of Nigeria

As both of us speak right now, Nnpc is not remitting a single dime to Nigeria, even though the global economy is experiencing an economic boom.
Is this not fantastic corruption at play?? Oil marketers are stealing oil subsidy, who is responsible for making the process so opaque??
Who is the minister of petroleum?

Nigeria's export capacity is also reduced due to oil theft, is government not supposed to crack down on this?

This are things a new government can solve. We've tried the APC, they FAILED!

When Obi wins with Labor party, the elite and the political class would see that Nigerians have fully woken up. Voting back pdapc signals business as usual.

The effects of Labor party winning trickles down to all government parastatals and strengthens Nigeria's democracy.

This is where clowns tend to falter.

NNPC is not remitting to CBN - why? They are using the dollars to subsidise Nigerian fuel.

There is Corruption in Subsidy. Marketers are stealing money. Are you prepared to pay full price for Petrol if the government ends Subsidy?

It was only last year that I bought petrol at £2 a litre...at today's exchange rates that's about N1900 a litre. In USA the price hit $8 a gallon.

Right now the price of petrol here is £1.50 a litre. That's like N1300 per litre. They are talking about cost Energy crisis - my monthly Electricity bill is £500 per month as standard cos I live in a big house and it's all electric - winter cold has pushed my Electric bill alone into £700 territory.

This is what unsubsidised energy looks like.

No Nigerian Government would last a week if they ever exposed Nigerians to these kind of prices. Which is why successive PDP and APC Government's have run away from it, and accepted the corruption around Subsidy as the price to pay for staying in power.

It's not by shouting about corruption. It's a very small group rotating power between themselves and they know Nigeria is essentially unfixable, which is why the only logical thing for them to do is to at least cash out.

Pump price of petrol in Ghana is $1.3 per litre as at this week

At N740 to a dollar thats 962 Naira per litre

You're complaining that NNPC is not remitting to CBN.

I laugh.

Remove subsidy first and see.

You are 1000% correct. I wanted to point out to him that NNPC has to make their deductions before remitting the remainder to the CBN. If nothing is left after deductions, what will they remit?

I saw some Obi supporters posting the screenshots of Emefiele's out-of-context comments and I knew most if not all of them did not understand what they were posting.

Yet another attempt to indulge in hopelessness fest. It's almost as if there is a certain joy to be derived in festering hopelessness.

I'm sorry but a lot of us choose to believe that Nigeria very much has hope. That we need to get our shit together. We've seen countries like ours experience positive economic turnaround, countries like Malaysia, Singapore, south Korea, Egypt and the many others. We believe that visionary and good leadership, humane and thoughtful leaders will also help Nigeria begin to turn around positively.

The question still remains.

Rather than doom-mongering, WHAT ARE YOU ADVISING NIGERIANS TO DO??
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE LEAST ORDINARY NIGERIANS CAN DO TO GET BETTER?

Nihilistjnr I get your point but what you're suggesting is what has gotten us in the mess we are as a nation. When everyone's thinking and acting selfishly so far they're beneficiaries of the government or for bragging rights in terms of ethnicity, region and religion. If this is logical thinking, I don't want any of it. It’s selfish, shortsighted and most importantly counter productive as far nation building is concerned. The consequences are always disastrous both in the short and long run.

The top parties you mentioned have the country on choke hold. Peter Obi could have easily remained in PDP to be Atiku's running mate but he didn't. A lesson learnt after 2019.

It's clear Nigerians don't trust the leadership anymore. The ruling elite knows this that's why they're desperate to maintain their grip over the nation but Obi offers something different. You can see this from the posture and body language of the elite. They clearly don't want an Obi led administration maybe cause they know he's not corrupt as they are.

I don't believe Obi will perform a miracle if elected. He's not Jesus Christ but we need someone who'll lead by example, who's transparent and accountable to the people, has no history of corruption or links to terrorism, physically and mentally sound, no questionable or dodgy history, serious about insecurity and tackling corruption.

Nigeria can work but it needs a sound mind, a strong will and a correct head to work. I believe Peter Obi if elected will not just benefit me, he'll benefit every Nigerian who wants a Nigeria that works. He's an epitome of hope to the youths and to the average educated Nigerian. He's the best man for the job.

Ordinary Nigerians should vote for candidate that favours them individually, which is what you are doing with Peter Obi, your Anambra kinsman who you hated enough to wish death upon as a governor, even as you now claim that he is the best presidential candidate because of his exploits....as Anambra state Governor.

The bolded is where this discussion should end.

Nigeria was never built as a nation.

Quick history lesson.

The Royal Niger Company was formed in 1886 to trade in Africa after the Berlin Conference. They took over a bunch of land in Nigeria which they called the Southern Protectorate and Nothern Protectorates. They sold these territories and everybody in them to the British Government for 865k and mining rights for 99 years.

The Royal Niger Company are now called Unilever, the same people that make and sell Close Up toothpaste.

Nigeria in it's current state is unworkable. It's simply not feasible. The people that created it did not do so with the the intention of creating a framework for a pluralistic democracy. They did it to extract maximum profit and sold the business within 20 years of formation.Nigeria was not created for your benefit. We were a department of Unilver, like Gala, Close-up, and Vaseline. You have to really grasp this concept for you to understand my point.

The original trigger for this conversation was this comment you made.
Ellexy:
One guy on that thread said "If Tinubu like let him be deaf and dumb with spit coming out from his mouth, he'll still vote for him" grin

Shows you the the level of damage supporting APC can cause to someone. How supposed sound minded individuals clamour for a cranky individual who displays symptoms of cognitive and behavioural impairments to take over from Buhari beats imagination.

I'm telling you that the person you think has brain damage is a lot smarter than you are giving them credit for, because they have a deep understanding of the ridiculousness of the useless contraption called Nigeria, and have decided to vote for the side that butters their bread.

That's why I gave you all the examples of cross carpeting, to point out the futility of demonising the 'evil party'.

If you dont believe me, listen to Peter Obi himself
“I have said it before, there is no different ideology between all of us who are running. Our politics has not matured (to a point) where we have different ideologies, beliefs and everything.

“We are at a what you can call developmental level. So, there is not much difference. What we are competing today or what Nigerians think is the choice before them now is of all these people promising the same thing, who can we trust?

So, what we are selling now is trust. What we are selling now is character,” he said.
https://saharareporters.com/2022/09/29/2023-elections-there-no-ideological-difference-between-pdps-atiku-and-i-says-peter-obi

So when you see somebody insisting on voting for Tinubu, you should realise that the person has worked out their potential benefit. They are not as stupid as you might think.

If we are being honest, whether buhari likes it or not that subsidy will be removed officially or not because from what is being said, FG has reduced the amount of money they pay.

Right now fuel is selling for 250-300 in most stations.
There's already talk that the lowest fuel will sell is 400 if subsidy is removed.. We are already on 300 in some places and it's not Xmas period yet.

Personally alot of Nigerians should just prepare their minds that by next year, fuel will go up to like 300 in almost every station and Buhari will still claim that subsidy is being paid. grin grin
