Phil46: Is the sim given to you at TLS Lebara.? If yes, i was also given such in Abuja TLS May. - My sim did not work in Nigeria, immediately i landed in heathrow , it activated and was active, it came with data plan too (3G or so i think) and some minutes. To answer your question yes you can, i advise use VPN and set location to UK first, go for Monzo. You can use your int'l passport as means of ID for Monzo, that is what i used and have revalidated it using Int'l passport. You also do not need a proof of address to open like Barclays. You need to secure accommodation before thinking of the bank account as that is where they'd send the card too. But you can use Airbnb if you book a private accommodation but seek permission from the host first before sending a post to his/adress, although i do not know why you are in a hurry as monzo card comes fast. it came in 1 business day to me in London this Nov. Otherwise within 3 as that is when i got previously in east midlands. 2 Likes |

hustla:Yes you can, so my friend got a job with them 20hours Data Analyst, working 20 hours. I asked her how? But she stated she just applied. You know Nigerians nah. I didn’t probe any further. Fast forward to June after coursework, I decided to test the labour market again cos I stopped in Feb due to rejections as per 20hours restrictions. My first application and boom, it’s NHS, I didn’t mention anything about visa until I was offered the role and they needed right to work proof. I was scared and almost didn’t bother as they wanted FT. Could you believe I resumed in Aug and worked 20hours until my school approved me working FT in October after I submitted my project in September. Now, they can’t offer COS for my role as it’s not permanent but my line Mgr showed me how to apply for some roles that offer COS and she’s been so helpful. Practically registered me on some platforms etc. So information is vital and Amarathripple0 is right. I am so happy for The experience I gained this past months and encouraged a lot of my friends too to apply. I wish I knew, I wouldave had at least 1 year experience now. People need to be encouraged, believe me, some of us are being so careful especially those of us without healthcare background. One thing to note is even some Citizens are also laid back, at least I work with them. So it’s okay if you are laid back but know there’s success if you try. I’ve been job hunting again and it’s much better with the NHS experience on my CV. 7 Likes |

Elders o..I just got part time work with NHS as support worker, they said I was over qualified but I think it's good for a start, just spent 2months in UK, I told the ward sister I could work full-time in holidays which she agreed. HR has started paperworks too..I hope it's a nice step. I know my target but I believe it's a stepping stone.. Please advise me o. 1 Like |

For developers in Manchester, Hackerx has an invite-only event for developers on Dec 7th. I believe one can still register. You’ll get to experience Hackerx' signature rapid-interviews in person and meet up to 20+ companies in one night as well as the opportunity to network with some of the best talent in your area. 4 Likes |

Hello House, I need your thoughts on this. I currently stay in Nottingham with my wife who is a student. I got a decent offer recently for a role that requires me to come in to the office twice a week (Office is in London) Will it be realistic for me to stay in AirBNB for the 2 days i have to visit the office and return back to nothingham afterwards or i start looking for a shared space to stay in London I’m already paying 650 monthly rent in Nottingham (all bills inclusive) so incurring extra rent will be crazy to manage considering how expensive rent is in London (Airbnb will probably cost me 45£ per night which will be an estimate of 100£ weekly minus transport) All ideas and recommendations will be appreciated. |

Ogbaba123:No I didn't this time. I've done it before when I wanted to actively message recruiters and HR manager's. LinkedIn also usually offers a month free for this (premium) per year. You can try to sign up but then cancel or stop the sign up process. Most likely they will then offer you a month free trial. But what you really need to do is to set up many job alerts with the specifications/filters you want (eg; product manager, London, full time, remote). You get notified once jobs fulfilling your criteria are posted. |

Hello All, Good morning. Please kindly help me out with this question. I was given an admission (Data Analytics) to Study at Aston University, Birmingham. I will be resuming next year January. My Question is: 1. Will I be able to get a job under Data Analysis Role considering I studied Compt Science in Nigeria, and I resigned earlier this month from the Role of (Sales-Analyst) in the company where I was working. Kindly help me out with the percentage |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Ogbaba123: 11:07am On Dec 03, 2022 |
There is no absolute or correct percentage. You have some experience and also a background in computer science, I can say you have good prospects but regardless of that, it is whatever you make of it, I hope you get what I mean. Even people without a formal education can get good jobs in these field if they can learn and prove they have certain skills. I wish you all the best. Sheezybobby: 1 Like |

adexcool: You could actually only spend £45/week on Airbnb. If you have to be in the office twice a week, then get the room for one night. Go in the morning, spend the night, work the following day and then return home. This way, you also do not have to pay transport twice. Unless there are specific days they want you to come in. Due to distance, I believe this can be negotiable. In the long run, see how it impacts you to spend two consecutive days and if your take home covers it. 7 Likes |
