Hey All, I have a Peugeot 307 2.0 L petrol Automatic pre-facelift and during a routine servicing last week, i found some oil in the air inflow hose (the hose that connects the air filter to the throttle body). On running the engine with the PCV (breather) hose disconnected, i found that it was spewing a fine oil mist into the air hose. Is that normal? Also i sit normal that the throttle body be just a tiny bit oily? if t´he above are problems, then what could be the possible causes. My Haynes repair manual is not very helpful, and an online search did not reveal much either. I also did not find much in this regard on Aussiefrogs forum (I´m a member). I understand the whole concept of positive crankcase ventilation, but my question remains-Is it normal to find engine oil in the air inflow tube? Ikenna, your knowledge is needed. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 5:12pm On Aug 16, 2012 |
t-die: Yes, its normal. Thats why the throttle body & IAC (Idle Air Control valve) need to be cleaned once in a while, to remove the accumulated oil from the crankcase, which would make the two components sticky and not open and close properly, hence idle issues. But the oil shouldnt be much. If its that much, then there is a problem, which can be caused by a blocked vacuum line that allows engine to breath properly. On my BABY, there is another vacuum line attached to the main vacuum line from the oil filler cap. The attached line bypasses such oil from getting to the air box- MAF - Throttle body tube, and take the oil direct to throttle body, to prevent the oil from touching MAF (since oil is a main killer of MAF) on the throttle body tube. Hope I didnt sound Abracadabra here? Ikenna. |

Hey ikenna, Thanks. Dont worry, You didnt sound so abracadabra... I try small for car mechanics and electrics... Even have my own multimeter, A haynes manual and am getting a lexia/peugeot scantool from bigx. Some mechanic dude was telling me to change the plastic valve covers... he said they were blocked (...and ofcourse i ran away... ) My engine is the EW10 variant. |

Or it could be that the pulleys are not aligned. Did you replace alternator or anything that connects to engine belt before this problem started? If the belt is not straight because of the non aligned of the pulleys, you will be havin this kind of issue too. No matter how inferior an engine belt is, it wont break as yours has been doing. Also, i hope your mechanic is not stretching the belt too much while adjusting it? Ikenna |

Ikenna, hope u had a swell day? My 206 has central lock problem. The BSI seems to be the issue. I fixed a new BSI and d central lock started working but the car won't start because of the immobilizer and it has to be recoded to work with my car's ECU. Did some online research and found out that a BSI cannot be recoded. The only option is to buy a new BSI and ECU from the same car and transfer to my car before it will work. How true is this? Isn't there some guru that can actually program the new BSI to work with my car? Another unfortunate thing is that the new BSI i put in my car briefly changed my mileage from 44,000 to 145,000. I read that fixing a new BSI changes the reading of the mileage. Imagine my car that is pretty low on mileage now taking on the mileage of an older car. Can i get someone to reprogram the mileage? The new BSi wasn't even used because d car won't start, it was just fixed to test if the central lock would work. Honestly, this newer model of cars have too much wahala. My central lock controls my boot and d boot has no external opener, therefore my boot no longer opens and i have no access to my spare tire. I really feel like selling the car. |

Aqva: Ikenna, hope u had a swell day? Yes. You are right. Newer cars have too much wahala. The newer a car, the more electrics. The more electirc a car becomes, the less reliable and more complex to diagnose and fix. Days were gone when EFIs have less electronics. Then, a sensor could do a dual or various functions, which makes it easier to troubleshoot and cheaper to maintain. But now, more electronics are added to make EFIs more efficient, but suffers reliability on the other hand. I did come accross a company (online) that repairs BSI unit. But i didnt save their contact (that i regret). It would have been the best solution than replacing the BSI unit with the engine ECU. I dont know if it could be possible to reprogram the newly purchased BSI unit to work with the engine ECU. But even if its possible, i doubt the possibility of finding a place it can be done in Nigeria. Have you tried Peugeot dealership/service centres? You never know. Also, have you asked the question or start a thread in Aussiefrogs forum on this your BSI issue?Trust me, you will get all you need to know about BSI in Aussiefrogs. There are so many Puegeot gurus there. The truth is, I dont really know much or have much information on hw to troubleshoot BSI issues. Why? Because my 2 Lions are non-BSI. But whenever i replace my 605 v6 with phase II 406 v6, the BSI issues wont be alien to me anymore. I love such challenges and i do overcome them via DIY, as they come. About the mileage issue, since some Nigerian car dealers tamper with vehicle mileage before selling, then that shouldnt be a problem to you. you just need to find one of them that can roll back yours for you. I dont know how they do it. But seriously, why would a car not not have an external boot opener? Why should i depend on electric to open my car trunk? So that means if my car battery drains completely, i cant have access to the boot? Why didnt they also do the same with the bonnet, since they believe electrics are more reliable than mechanicals? Of course,if the car battery drains flat too, one wont be able to open the bonnet to even replace the dead battery. This thing with newer cars! So unrelable. Ikenna 1 Like |

samoy: Ikenna, pls help! My lion displays "ABS fault" when d engine is started. Wheel sensors! Did you work on any of the wheels recently? If yes, then you have your answer. ABS wheel sensor do have settings (factory gap). I f you tamper with it without gapping it properly, you will get the lit on the instrument cluster. Meaning, your brake will still work, but non anti-lock. You can start by pulling out the ABS wheel sensor connectors (4 of them), check fro corrosion, clean if any corrosion and connect back to the sensor well. Corrosion of the connectors will lit the ABS warning bulb on the instrument cluster. Also make sure that all the ABS wheel sensors are well tight on their various locations. I just hope it hasnt come to gapping, unless the owners workshop manual states yours dont need to be gapped. Start with the sensors connectors cleaning first. It could simply fix the problem. Ikenna. |
Re: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(m): 7:08pm On Aug 22, 2012 |
samoy: Ikenna, pls help! My lion displays "ABS fault" when d engine is started. If I may ask, does the ABS lit goes off seconds after starting the car or it remains on till whenever you switch off or kill the engine? You can still findout if the ABS still works by testing it. Take the car to an isolated smooth road, race the car and quickly depress and hold the brake pedal down. If the ABS still works, you will feel vibration on the brake pedal. And do not lift your foot or pump the pedal. Just hold it down, while it vibrates. If the none of the wheels locks, then your ABS is still in tact. You can as well try and steer the car a little bit, to know if you will experience body roll. ABS doesnt make a car stops quicker or reduces the stop distance, rather, it increases stop distance. ABS is there to help you steer away from an object before you effortlessly when find yourself in an unpleasant situation, unlike a non ABS car that will lock the wheels and refuses to steer away from an object, car or human being you are about hit or send to early grave. Thats the advantage. But if you are not that good with the wheels, please dont try the ABS test i explained above. I no dey o! Ikenna 1 Like |

Below is from Aussiefrogs. For those that have AL4 transmission in their Lions (automatic gearbox in phase II 406, 206, 307,etc), it can be useful to you. The AL4 - A Good News Story -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just wanted to share my AL4 adventure ... I drive a 206CC with the dreaded box in it, and at around 115k it started doing the dreaded THUMP into limp-home mode - usually first thing in the morning, going up the massive hill that is my morning drive into town / work. A stop-and-restart once it was warm would reset the box and fix the issue (got quite good at this while still moving in traffic - naughty I know), but it never really got any better ... At 145k, the local auto specialist diagnosed a solenoid fault and advised replacing both solenoids ... Not afraid of a bit of mechanicking, I drained the box, pulled the valve block off, stripped it down, flushed everything, reassembled it KEEPING but SWAPPING the ORIGINAL solenoids over, and put it all back together. Now at 165k, never had a recurrence, and the box changes like a newbie. And the magic 'fluid' that is recommended? Try Penrite ATF FS - it works great in my box. The label says it can be used where 'BMW LT71141' spec is recommended ... same same ... and it's easy to get your hands on. And it's red - like all ATF should be - lol. BSI RESET PROCEDURE: Peugeot BSI (Body control) failure Peugeot and Citroen BSI (Body Control) units are very prone to failure. Symptoms include no indicators, ignitions lights on with no key, wildly incorrect cluster readings and complete non start. These units are own unit rebuilds which removes the need for coding. Try the BSI Reset procedure as this may cure your faults: Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items. Source: http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=peugeot_bsi_body_control_failure They also claimed they can fix or repair the BSI unit. Hope this helps? Ikenna. |
