In Europe, your job makes little difference to how much you can earn, there is a zero chance of a high-paying job no matter which degree you do or how ambitious or motivated you are.

Being an ambitious motivated young person in Europe means going down the career path meaning after university, you are expected to work in big corporations.

European universities produce more diplomas than jobs so every year there is another cohort of easily exploitable people
this results in career positions requiring 80 hours of no overtime pay a week level of effort just not to get fired. You get paid 25% over low-effort careers. this is the depressing state of the current state of Europe and as long as you remain within Europe there is no escape from this

for instance

An engineer working 80 hours a week for a multinational company makes about 2500€ net a month
An amazon call center in Italy makes about 1350 euros per month
A Specialist on call in the Balkans countries earns 2000 euros per month depending on the region/city or country. while a primary care doctor fresh out of med school earns 800 (eight hundred) euros.

For example in France, a cop in Paris (the lowest level) something like 20 years old is paid 2,100 euros net per month.
A programmer at 25 years old and after a computer science degree is paid 1,800 euros net per month
A plumber, who dropped out of high school at 16 is already making 3,000 euros net per month at 25 years old, the same for butchers and welders
of course, the programmer will get a better salary with time but the cop, the welder, the butcher, and the plumbers too
when each one of them is 30, only the butcher, the plumber, and the welder are homeowners

The system there is not designed to make you rich. You should be comfortable and your neighbours should be comfortable too (i.e), there should be an equitable distribution of wealth/resources amongst citizens.

So if you are looking for where to go and pack all the money to show off or acquire all the properties in Nigeria, some of these European countries are definitely not for you.

That their system get as e be.

Come to think of it, it's similar with our country.

Newly graduated doctors earn below ₦200k per month, likewise 90% of graduates working while some mechanics earns above ₦500k monthly.

This matter just get as e be. My childhood friend who chose to be a driver have 3 houses and other assets
While the rest of us that went to school are struggling to finish our first building undecided

This life sometimes can be funny grin

If you wan high salaries go to USA. It’s their system and it works for them. Why should people who are not up to 10% of the workforce make all the money while others suffer and live in poverty Also notice that in europe its hard to start something from scratch that will blow like in usa or china grin

Yes I think the reason why wages are high in the United States is because of capitalism

the american system also encourages entrepreneurship, so you are rewarded for your hard work and determination with riches, that is if your biz is successful.

Honestly especially the UK when I see Nigerians selling everything to rush to the UK I wonder what they gave them to drink. The salaries in that country are nothing to write home about. The taxes are a lot and the cost of living is through the roof. There's even a housing deficit at the moment.

Some of the reasons they give;
1) A second passport.
2) For their kids future.
3) Nigeria is an unsafe country.

4) Better standard of living, healthcare, education, etc…

5) A cleaner in London is better than a bank manager in Nigeria. Bank managers done suffer sha.

It's just that people dont research. There's a lot of UK level passports that could easily be gotten. In Portugal, if you have stayed for more than a year and you give birth your kids qualify for an eu passport. There's a ton of other countries with strong passport travel privileges which people dont know that has everything the UK has and less taxes and less cost of living. And the thing is that not everyone will stay long enough to even get that UK passport. It's the same sort of jobs everyone is struggling to get after studies and that job no sure and the laws are always changing. UK has cancelled this post study work visa before and left a lot of people stranded.

It is not like they don’t research. The reason many go for UK is the ease of getting the study visa. Maybe affordability when compared to some EU countries.

There was this trending video of a family in Nigeria and UK. A friend saw it and she asked how they got visa. I bet she was shocked she would be sharing UK with them.p

The UK is more expensive than other countries. I think it's just the language barrier. No one wants to learn a new language. That's difficult as hell depending on the age you are in.

many of them ended up well. Meanwhile there are many whose parents refused to japa and those kids are over 30 years still living in their parents house waiting for them to die so they can sell their properties, some are earning less than 50k salary, some have no job.

I don't really see how Portugal is easier or better. Salaries aren't exactly mind-blowing there either. The country has the 6th most powerful passport in the world alongside Ireland, France and the UK. It takes the same number of years to be a citizen (5 years with a few different conditions). In the UK, your child also qualifies for citizenship if you're legally settled in the country and even though they're no longer in the EU, it's still a global passport backed by many bilateral agreements. Taxes might be lower in Portugal but that comes at a cost. You must learn Portuguese to pass the citizenship screening and the country is less diverse than the UK, which means more racism. You said there are tons of countries with strong passports; the question is, how many of them are anglophone? Or you don't see the role of language in migration patterns or even in life's endeavors?

In life, everything is about struggling. You've mentioned why the UK path is a struggle, but the mere fact that you have to learn Portuguese to be a citizen or get a great job in Portugal makes that path a a big struggle too, and staying in Nigeria is not any easier. So let people do whichever one thet feel they have what it takes to do. Don't assume they don't do thier research. People aren't exactly dumb.

Americans at age 35 if they spend like Europeans and invest the rest, they will be able to retire while Europeans at age 35 If they work hard for another 35 years then the government needs to bring in more immigrants so that they can pay Europeans a miserable pension through taxing immigrants.

btw, A software programmer in Sweden makes $48k a year, you also have to pay 52% in taxes which is not really worth it. you will also have free healthcare but the average waiting queue is 3 years. People with cancer sometimes die in the queue.

Europe only surpasses America on the extreme ends of the scale, where you either have absolutely nothing (and benefit from social safety nets) or already have millions of dollars to experience the best that Europe has to offer.

There is significantly less social mobility on the higher end, so unless you are very lucky you will likely stay in the same social class that you were born into. the goals of some of the most ambitious Europeans is to make money in America and then retire to an estate in southern France/northern Italy.

I don't understand. Going by what? And which four countries? I pointed out many things that should be put into consideration: language, passport index, job availability, salary, tax, diversity/racism, naturalization, etc. None of these things should be treated in isolation, and when all are considered, Portugal isn't any better option than the UK. That was the point in that comment.

Na wetin dey burst my head when people make certain comparisons. Nigeria has her issues, but they should never compare a cleaner or warehouse operative like one debated with me recently to a bank manager in Nigeria. People see contract staff as bankers, and that is not a true representation of the industry's remuneration. They should say, "a cleaner in the UK has better prospects than a contract staff banker in Nigeria", and one might not bother. My friend who got into UBA started earning 250K and decided to stay after NYSC in a state with LCOL. I will discourage her from heading to the UK unless for MBA programs and if so, must either be LBS, Said or Judges. Anything else, enter the US.

The other comparison is changing currencies while in the abroad. Unless the person intends to return home immediately and decides to save along the way, it might make sense. But by living there, people should stop the needless conversions, they don't make economic sense.
