If you don chop abula or amala and ewedu soup with stew before or you still dey take am, you get two questions to answer:
1. which color of amala una think sey be the best?
2. You remember that delicious abula or amala and ewedu soup wey sweet your bele die grin grin grin that time. Wetin you think make the amala sweet like that?

I go start. The color wey I think dey best na when the amala dey almost white like that kin light brown color. (Some people go shock but e get type of yam flour wey go produce this kin amala.)
Wetin I think make the amala dey sweet be the texture and the way the thing dey come out fresh and hot.

No look, chook mouth inside this matter!!

I love the brown one
Re: My Amala People Oya Make We Talk... by illicit(m): 8:48pm On Dec 05, 2022
The fair one is lafun, made from cassava

The black one is made from yam

You can mix them or add guinea corn while grinding it, you get a sort of brown
Re: My Amala People Oya Make We Talk... by illicit(m): 8:51pm On Dec 05, 2022
When u heard of people dying after eating Amala

It's usually the white one, Lafun
If not properly processed it may be toxic cos cassava contains cyanide

Same things goes for fufu and garri

Cassava has to be processed thoroughly or else it could be poison

See the type I ate growing up. The type that when you cut it, it will burn your fingers. That is the real amala. I hardly find it these days.

Iya alamala in ikoyi then ( in the 80s) was the only Amala joint that sold the best Amala. They sold it then directly from the pot. Not this one's they wrap nowadays.

Another place I had good Amala ( but not as good as the one back then) was island club at onikan roundabout.

I tasted NCR Amala at Lagos island too but non of them beat the One I had in my childhood days.

Even as at today, Dec 6th, 2022- No real abula joint sells amala in wraps. They all sell from the pot. This is from a diehard fan that has tried many hyped amala spots in Lagos and a few in neighbouring SW states - many I can’t remember their names sef.

Please stop going to Mr Biggs to eat amala.
grin grin

That said, there is nothing much to amala after many trials. If the sauce is good with enough meat, then I am game. Without plenty meat, I wouldn’t go close.

One of these I will try this.

Hopefully there's a restaurant that sells here in the eastern part of the country.

Not only eateries wrap their Amala these days even some so-called Amala hotspot do wrap theirs. So, I'll rather go to an eatery where I'll enjoy cool ambience with neatness as I eat in peace.
The last Amala I had at my favorite eatery was very hot and I enjoyed it. No better Amala again.

I can do Amala one week straight with or without the orisirisi as long as there's plenty gbegiri and ewedu. I love it so much. Anyone born and brought up on the island in the 80s will have no choice but to be an Amala addict.

That is a quack amala spot. You might have to mention its name, because every amala HOTSPOT serves from the pot and I have been to MANY. They would in fact stir the amala before proceeding to serve you tiny scoops.

Modern amala hotspots are finer than KFC. They have the ambience if that is what you need. Amala Sky in the heart of Lekki Phase1 serves from the pot and is as beautiful as NOIR. They all try not to erode the core abula experience.

Nice to know you can eat without orisirisi. Definitely not me mahn!

Lol... Any Amala joint that has turned into a corporate affairs is no longer an Amala joint. That one na glorified Amala spot and won't have that local vibe. So, it's same same.

I miss real amala.

They opened a branch in Lagos. There was a lot of controversy surrounding it, with the one in Ibadan saying they don’t have a branch in Lagos. I think I visited after seeing the drama on IG. Total waste of time, but they have a beautiful space.

What is that yellow stuff? And what is it’s function to the normal amala, ewedu and stew?
