Iya alamala in ikoyi then ( in the 80s) was the only Amala joint that sold the best Amala. They sold it then directly from the pot. Not this one's they wrap nowadays.

Another place I had good Amala ( but not as good as the one back then) was island club at onikan roundabout.

I tasted NCR Amala at Lagos island too but non of them beat the One I had in my childhood days.

Even as at today, Dec 6th, 2022- No real abula joint sells amala in wraps. They all sell from the pot. This is from a diehard fan that has tried many hyped amala spots in Lagos and a few in neighbouring SW states - many I can’t remember their names sef.

Please stop going to Mr Biggs to eat amala.


That said, there is nothing much to amala after many trials. If the sauce is good with enough meat, then I am game. Without plenty meat, I wouldn’t go close.

Not only eateries wrap their Amala these days even some so-called Amala hotspot do wrap theirs. So, I'll rather go to an eatery where I'll enjoy cool ambience with neatness as I eat in peace.
The last Amala I had at my favorite eatery was very hot and I enjoyed it. No better Amala again.

I can do Amala one week straight with or without the orisirisi as long as there's plenty gbegiri and ewedu. I love it so much. Anyone born and brought up on the island in the 80s will have no choice but to be an Amala addict.

Lol. Not at all. I have colleagues that are mainly Yorubas. So we have toured numerous joints in this Lagos. Even the one inside mechanic village, we done enter am. Just tell them you like one amala joint and they would almost die convincing you that xyz is better. The next day, we done show.

They opened a branch in Lagos. There was a lot of controversy surrounding it, with the one in Ibadan saying they don’t have a branch in Lagos. I think I visited after seeing the drama on IG. Total waste of time, but they have a beautiful space.
