Good morning All,

I will be using Egyptair from Nigeria to the UK this month and would like to be sure on the following.

I will have 12hr 5min stop in Cairo

1. Do I need transit visa?
2. Is any covid process (test, card, vaccination) required?
3. Is yellow fever test required?

Someone just told me about the covid card and I would like to be sure if that's true.

Thanks

You don’t need a transit visa but if you still in doubt, it’s best to confirm from the airline.
And if you are vaccinated, bring your card along. Covid protocols have been relaxed worldwide except in China that’s still draconian in her approach.
As for the Yellow fever test, you can get that done when you part with some few naira (1k or less) right there at the airport, just before boarding.

You could go on gov.uk. there could be something for people who work from home as staff.

There’s a use of home allowance of £6 per week which amounts to £312 which anyone working from home can claim.

Nope, it’s not. Here are detailed explanations of what constitutes as public funds.

Are you suggesting a private person can claim interest on a mortgage? Never heard this before. If that's the case then need to find me an accountant. Can it be claimed retrospectively?

Yes, an individual taxpayer can claim interest on their mortgage. That is why I keep saying that immigrants and we, Blacks need to learn how to use consultants because in this country if you do not use tax consultant you are doing father christmas to the government. Period! Because you will be dashing thousands of pounds away to the government every year.

Hi bro,

I am a member of CIMA (UK) and have over 5 years experience in tax.

Please let me know how I can help you.

Thanks.

Peerielass:

Hello, can I ask which professional accountancy body you belong to and how many years UK tax experience you have?

Thank you for the concern.
I totally understand what you mean.
Peerielass:

You really need to tread carefully here, this is a public forum for people to share personal experiences and not intended for professional advise. If you need the services of an accountant or tax consultant, you can find one local to you using the ACCA, ICAS, ICAEW, ATT directory. UK tax laws are particularly complex and requires significant technical knowledge which can only be acquired through practise and regular exposure to complex cases. No offence intended but I do not think that someone who has spent less than two years in this country will have the requisite technical know how required for this line of work.

There’s also a reason why most accountants don’t advertise their services. Potential clients find them and not the other way round,

I am not surprised at your comment because this is how Africans and blacks behave. They do not believe in any services offered by their fellow blacks here; rather they believe in the quackery services offered to them by Indians, Parkistani and the Easter Europeans. So keep up with this mentality and lets see how it will lead to the growth of the black community in the UK.

Anyway, for your information, I teach and coach tax to candidates preparing for ALL the tax exams of the professional bodies that you have mentioned. I live and breathe UK tax laws- even corporation tax laws which are very complex let alone individual income tax laws.

I also have an interesting disruptive project on tax coming up in partnership with a UK University in Birmingham to deliver a Robotic tax Advisor that will interact with taxpayers and advise them as well as file taxes o their behalf autonomously. This project is receiving the backing of HMRC. Yes, is proudly Black project- an initiative that will make human tax advisors jobless as it will use Artificial intelligence to deliver impeccable personalized tax experience and services at a fraction of the cost charged by human advisors.

And maybe the white tax advisors you worship and celebrate, I sat in the class with them to study finance in the UK during my Master degree here and achieved a record high GPA that now white man or Asian has achieved at Birmingham University Finance Department. I also passed my Chartered Institute of Management Accountants CIMA professional exams in a single siting without a re-sit.

Also, you attacked my accounting body in the UK which shows real ignorance on your part of accounting profession in the UK. Please follow this link https://www.frc.org.uk/auditors/professional-oversight/oversight-of-the-accountancy-profession to check on the website of accounting industry regulatory agency in the UK called Financial Reporting Council (FRC); you will see the list of accounting bodies in the UK whose members are authorized to practice accountancy in the country. My professional Accounting Body, CIMA UK is No. 3 on the list.

I would have kept quiet at your missiles of vilification, but I was compelled to correct this malicious de-marketing to keep the records straight. And, sometimes it is good to blow your trumpet, so I have blown mine. Thank you for creating the stage for me to let people know more about me on this platform.

If the contract said one month notice and you told them in October you’re not renewing, that should suffice as notice.
If someone failed to pick up on that and do the needful to re-advertise the property, that’s their problem.

No offence, but the optics of what you did here is very very bad. You surely aren’t against a prospective client doing their due diligence are you? And yes, like the OP said, even in Naija you don’t have tax consultants and accountants advertising services around.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO FILE TAX RETURNS

The UK tax laws recognize two individuals: employed and self-employed individuals.

Employed individuals are those who work and earn salaries and other benefits from employment. The law does not require employed individuals to file for tax if their ONLY income during the year is the income from their employment. However, if the employed individuals earn other incomes outside of their employment, they must file tax returns to report such incomes to the HMRC.

The self-employed individuals are contractors and sole traders who own their own small businesses. The UK tax law requires ALL self employed individuals to file tax returns. So it is tax evasion offence to not file tax returns if you a a self employed individual in the UK. The penalties imposed by HMRC on self-employed individuals who fail to file tax returns could be punitively high depending on how long the violation lasts. The cost of filing tax returns is well cheaper compared to this huge penalties as they could cost you thousands of pounds.

This is an embarrassingly absurd thing to say and you should be ashamed of yourself - and everyone really should be wary of engaging you for anything since you apparently think this of 'Africans and blacks'.

People have been engaging your posts generally positively - asking questions and possibly considering reaching out to you, and ONE negative comment comes and you so shamelessly default to this inferiority complex-driven insults?

And it's not as if the post was completely wrong anyway. It's unusual to see accountants peddling their services as you have been doing. Perhaps not wrong, but unusual still. Moreover, the individual you quoted did not call you a liar - they simply asked people to do their DD and expressed their doubts about someone with two years experience in the UK profession. All you had to do was just set out your qualifications and maybe your LinkedIn to show you are who you say you are, but you defaulted to this? Instead of making all these tall claims - just say - here, this is my profile - reach out to me there if you need to. Simple.

Man, I really pity any Africans among your clientele, and anyone who engages you in professional capacity.

Why is a public forum hardly the place to give professional advice? It is an advice so it is up to the individual to do whatever they want with the information. The same way we all give "professional" advice here too.

The comment you made below is highly distasteful and unbecoming. Do better!

Any individuals, whether employees or self employed can claim allowance regarding their mortgage interests; it all depends on how they have arranged their property acquisition to capture this tax benefit.

But be assured that the mortgage interest benefit can be claimed by both employees and self employed.

As a professional, you needn't take this personal at all. Toot your horn all you want but don't make it seem like there's a personal vendetta you have to respond to with the horn-tooting. Except of course there's one between you two that we don't know about

The person you quoted didn't even imply that you're bad at your job/service or not certified. It was an advise to people to do their due diligence, which is quite sensible. Except you have something against that, it wasn't an out-of-place advice. So, maybe pipe down a bit and market yourself properly (if you can and want to), help people (like you want to), and gain people's confidence/trust.

Sofry sofry o

This is not how the laws relating to property in income operate. I hope to share tips on this in near future.

deept:

If you live in a 3 bed house and you use one of the rooms for your business, you can claim 33% of the interest on your mortgage as deductable.

Ps. Not an accountant or tax consultant but me done research on what and what is deductable as I'm looking at towing self employment line. Do your DD to confirm

Ok I said I wasn’t going to comment again but I think you have the wrong end of the stick here and are completely missing the message I was trying to convey.

When I posted my comment about the professional Accountancy bodies, I listed a few that I could remember off the top of my head. The fact that I didn’t mention CIPFA, CiMA etc is not a slight on those qualifications. You can check the timeline of my post to see that I already made the comment before you disclosed your CIMA qualification.

Secondly, most professional accountancy bodies require intending members to achieve a minimum of 3 years practical experience in UK Taxation (if following the tax advisor career route) before allowing them to complete complex tax returns hence my comment about needing more than 2 years UK tax experience to acquire the skill-set required for this line of work. Again this was not a dig at you or any new immigrants.

Thirdly, I’m not a Bros. I still stand by my original advice, people should do their DD before engaging the services of any accountant.
