Please, can an experienced person help with the calculation of CGPA and WEIGHTED AVERAGE (PhD grade) for Masters program here?
Re: Thread For Masters Degree Students by Risky101: 6:26pm On Jun 07, 2020
Please, can an experienced person help with the calculation of CGPA and WEIGHTED AVERAGE (PhD grade) for Masters program here?

Also, it is advisable to do a PhD program in NOUN? How fast can it be? I represent Educational Management or Administration and planning.

The same way you calculate your undergraduate CGPA. Weighed average entails adding all your scores for each course and then dividing it by the total number of courses taken. For example ENG 801 score was 80, ENG 802 75, ENG 803 65, ENG 75 , ENG 50. You add all scores (80+75+65+75+50)/5= 69. So your weighed average score is 69% ( a good score for one semester if all things are equal).

Many thanks for thoughts @edoairways. But you didn't attempt an answer for the NOUN PhD question. Any idea?[uote author=edoairways post=90416396]

Please I got a cgpa of 2.88 first semester and a cgpa of 3.54 second semester please what then is my total cgpa for the year? And do think I will be able to graduate with 1st class or second class upper?

Actually your first semester is GPA not CGPA except they added previous levels ( 1st, 2nd and 3rd year's result).
and a cgpa of 3.54 second semester please what then is my total cgpa for the year? And do think I will be able to graduate with 1st class or second class upper?
Now your second semester grade is your CGPA. It comprises first semester scores plus second semester. As it stand, you are on 2.1 grade. It is possible to graduate with first class if you score A in all your courses.
Hope you understand

Ok. Assuming your department is Business Administration, the following are the likely courses you would take. Here the grades are assumed. Note that if you score any of these grades, this will be your point. A= 5 , B= 4, C= 3, D= 2 E=1. To get your point, multiple your grade by your course unit.
First year. (1). (2). (1×2)
Course code. Units. Grade. Point (
ACC 101 2C. B. 2*4= 8( units * point)
BUS 101. 2C. A. 2*5= 10
BUS 102. 3C. C. 3*5= 15
BUS 103. 3C. B. 3*3= 09
GST 101. 2C. A. 2*5= 10
TU. 12 units. TP = 52.
GPA = TP/ TU = 52/12 = 4.33
Note that TU = Total Units taken for the semester
TP=. Total Point obtained
GPA = Grade Point Average.
The above course is assumed to be your first semester courses taken for the first year. Next we look at your second semester courses and obtained your Cumulative Grade Point Average ( CGPA).

Second semester
(1). (2). ( 1) * (2)
Course code. Units. Grade. Points
ACC 111. 3C. A. 3 *5 = 15( unit * point)
BUS 111. 2C. B. 2* 4 = 08.
BUS 112. 2C. C. 2* 2 = 04.
GST 111. 2C. A. 2* 5 = 10.
GST 112. 2C. A 2* 5 = 10.

TU = 11 units TP: 47
CGPA: TP 1 + TP 2/ TU 1+ TU 2. = 52+ 47/ 12+11
= 99/23
CGPA at the end of year 1 is. 4.30.
TP 1: First semester total point
TP 2: second semester point
TU 1 : Total Units of first semester
TU 2: Total Units of second semester.

Year 2:
(1). (2). (1)* (2)
Course code. Units Grade. Points
ACC 201. 3. C. 3*3 = 09 (units * points)
BUS 201. 3. A. 3*5 = 15
BUS 202. 2. D. 2*2 = 04
BUS 203. 2. C. 2*3 = 06
MKT 201. 2. F. 2* 0 = 00
FMS 201. 2. B. 2*4 = 08
CSC 200. 2. A. 2*5 = 10

TU = 16. TP = 52.
Year 2 CGPA= CP of year 1 + TU of year 2/ CU year 1 plus Total Point of year 2. = 99+52/23+16 = 151/39= 3.87.Therefore your CGPA for year two first semester is 3.87
CP =Cumulative points
CU = Cumulative Units
Year 2 second semester:
Course code: Course units Grade. Point

ACC 211. 3. A. 3*5= 15
BUS 211. 3. A. 3* 5= 15
BUS 212. 3. B. 3*4 = 12
BUS 213. 2. A. 2* 5 = 10
BUS 214. 2. A. 2*5 = 10
MKT 211. 2. A. 2 * 5= 10
FIN 211. 2. C. 2* 3 = 06

Total units: 17. Total Point: 78.
CGPA at the end of year 2= CGPA 1+ Total Units/ CU of yr 1+ total units.
151+78/39+17 = 229/56= 4.08
Therefore your Cumulative Grade Point Average for year 2 is 4.08.
To calculate for year 3 first semester, you add your arrived Cumulative points ( 229) plus your current total point then divide it by Cumulative Units+ Total Units of year 3 first semester. 229 +85/56+50=
314/106= 2.96

Compliments of the season to everyone.

This thread was borne out of the rich benefits I have derived from a much advanced thread - Thread For PhD Students. Though I aspire to bag one someday, I know I have to start from somewhere. I have followed and enjoy first-hand information that has been, and will be of great help in the future.

Well, I would start off. I had a B.Eng in Electrical/Electronics Engineering; and currently on an M.Sc program in Electronics & Computer Engineering (Nigeria). I would like us to share ideas, topics, questions, discuss our struggles and challenges so that others, both current and intending students in any field/discipline can benefit.

Lets make this thread worth every click and view! All the best!!!
