Politicians buying PVCs from voters, INEC alleges 13th December 2022 PVCs Permanent Voters Cards By Friday Olokor Kindly share this story: Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday accused some politicians of buying up Permanent Voter Cards and financially inducing voters to harvest their Voter Identification Numbers. The commission also said two persons have been recently convicted for illegal possession of PVCs in Sokoto and Kano states. The acting chairman of INEC and National Commissioner overseeing the FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Plateau States, Mohammed Haruna, raised the alarm in Abuja during the launch of the #YourVoteMatters project by an election observer group, NESSACTION. The project was supported by the International Foundation for Electoral System; the United States Agency for International Development and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Close It aims to assist INEC in increasing the number of PVCs collected ahead of the 2023 general elections as well as the voters mobilised on election day. Haruna said, “We are aware that some politicians are more or less buying the PVCs. If you collect the PVC and then you sell it out or allow someone else to have it, you are aiding illegal possession of the PVC which is an offence in our Electoral Act. So, I urge people to collect their PVCs, keep them safely, and make sure that on election day, you go out there and cast your votes because, of course, without your PVC you cannot vote.” The Executive Director of NESSACTION, Eniola Cole, explained that the project scheduled for implementation in the FCT, Nasarawa, and Plateau states, would provide logistics and give incentives to communities with low PVC collection rates. She commended INEC for gains made in the electoral process through technology and other reforms. Cole said, “We implore the general public to take advantage of the timeframe set by INEC for PVC collection at the Commission’s LGA offices nationwide from December 12, 2022, to January 5, 2023, and at the 8809 Registration Areas from January 6, 2023, to January 22, 2023, including Saturdays and Sundays. “The public can, through dedicated channels, inform us of their location to receive support including the PVC collection buses and community outreach activities to be conducted at the local level in each state by our community mobilisation officers.” https://punchng.com/politicians-buying-pvcs-from-voters-inec-alleges/

If they are buying PVC from voters, what will they do with it? Do these people even know that there is BVAS and that results will be transmitted electronically from PUs? They probably think they are in the era when people thumb-print and stuff ballot boxes. |

SmartPolician:are you a stranger to Nigeria politics? there would be lots of disenfranchisation to credible voters on election day due to failure of the said BVAS in many pooling unit. which would result to compromise and people would be forced to vote in many pooling unit without it. we saw how it worked with card readers. as inec gets smart, politicians get smarter. inec should be more accountable in delivering PVC to registered voters, Abuja that has no attack are having too many PVC missing. I saw it yesterday with my own eyes, I wonder what states would be going through. |

Amaechi2023: BVAS captures the data of people that have been accredited. If BVAS captures 10, there must be 10 voters or fewer. If BVAS fails to work, no voting. INEC has no provision for incident forms anymore. You people don't understand that Nigeria has moved with the new electoral law. Everything is done electronically now. What all parties need is have a reliable agent at PUs that will insist that the right thing is done. Again, security operatives must ensure that they are safe. The days elections are manipulated at collation centres are far gone because signed result sheets are uploaded on the INEC portal in real time. No more returning officer to present the authentic results. That nonsense is no longer useful. With this new technology, situation rooms of parties can know the winner of elections before INEC is done with their computations. This was exactly what happened in Osun State. PDP was already celebrating everywhere before INEC announced the winner. Thanks to this tech-driven electoral process. This is why APC members are complaining about this process. Tinubu wouldn't have lost Osun if not for it. Many Nigerians are uninformed. 1 Like |
