Watching Croatia play yesterday and being impressed with their display, the replacement of Modric drew my attention.

Lovro Majer.

Checked his clip, he looks elegant and promising. The Croatians are blessed with wonderful midfielders. All intelligent with their passing and good with putting defensive shifts.

Their mentality was their downfall. They were mentally built for penalty shootout but Argentina had another idea.
Imagine. They wanted to get to the final through penalties

Possession football for the sake of starving the opponent of the ball, tiring the opponent is Tiki-taka

Coaches with continental trophies have been smart enough to take out of it and do what is necessary, WIN

There is one way to fix Super Eagles, stop relying much on players playing outside the Country. They've been so arrogantly poor and unreliable.

Last time we won AFCON, local players played huge roles immensely. I have nothing against foreign Coach but shouldn't be spending much of his time away from the country.

There should be a project for new Super Eagles. Select best local players and make sure they are attending training together at least twice in a Month.

Screen out the mediocre ones until solid squad is built, then add few players from abroad to them.

Enough of over reliance on players abroad.... they're taking us to nowhere.

Very good point. The challenge is that as soon as the players start performing for the National team, foreign clubs will come in droves for them and you are back to square one.

Exactly!

And it isn't even better foreign clubs o . Clubs from Malta, Albania, Azerbaijan and the likes.. Then we will go back to picking players from the local league to replace the ones that have joined the status of foreign based players.. It doesn't make any sense..

The easiest solution is to fix the local league and make it more attractive such that our best players don't have to leave there for obscure leagues just because they want to be paid better..

Bringing in home based players into the national team is no way to fix the league...

This is pre 1990 template ooo. Why do we overlook quality and make home based or foreign based or foreign born the basis of team selection or is quality synonymous with local players?

Always known about Majer since his Dinamo Zagreb days where he was always touted as the next Modric or nearest next thing to Modric since they are country men.

His showings at this WC have been good even in the cameos he had but ofcoz I already know what he is about. I believe we are yet to see his best as he approaches age 25 next year. His prime years promises to be more interesting.

His continued growth at Rennes in Ligue 1 is the springboard for the lad who will obviously take over the mantle in a couple of months or few years as Croatia's midfield general in Modric's absence.

What captures me the most about him his his similar game reading, Midfield conducting and press resistant abilities.

Lol, funds have never been the issue.

All it took for Morocco to obtain such a standard was for one of theirs i.e a local coach, to win the CAF champions league. That's all it took.

The questions we should be asking ourselves are What are our local coaches doing? How many of
them have taken it upon themselves to educate themselves about the modern game? Why aren't they making giant strides when it comes to continental football? When last did a Nigerian team smell the final of CAF champions league?

I'm sure people will talk about club administration issues but if you cannot handle adversity at club level, is it at National level you'll be able to handle it, especially when you're dealing with a country like Nigeria?

Like I said earlier, we're not ready to improve. When we're ready to do so, we'll know what to do.

just like our players our coaches have zero ambition, nothing stopping a fatai osho or Fidelis from joining a club in Africa to make their cv more beautiful but they’ll rather stay in their comfort zone. Our recently retired players? Those ones are worst, Joseph Yobo was forced to take up a spot in our technical crew he still refused to go for his coaching badges, aside Utaka I don’t know any former player trying to make his name as a coach while other Africans are trying to start a career, Kolo Toure is now Wigan’s coach while his brother Yaya is with Conte at Tottenham , Benny McCarty is Manchester United’s striker coach, Elneny have already started his UEFA coaching course but our players are no where to be found. You see why we’ll either continue to employ 3rd grade foreign coaches or we’ll manage our Amunike like that

For goodness sake, Arteta grew up in Barca academy learning the philosophy.

Watch one of his goal sequences.

So how about Mourinho?

So who did Wenger now grow up under? This take is getting more ridiculous. We don't need clips to even use to justify this. No matter the beginning of any manager, they'll still decide which style to use, and it doesn't mean they didn't learn it well.

I can count several top managers and where they learnt tactics and most don't even stick to the first one. That will be stale. Very stale and disastrous for their own careers, especially when everyone is not gifted with players like Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi.

Allow this rest pls. Even the media knew he wasn't playing exact philosophy as the Pep he deputized for.

The logic is this:
Arteta learnt under gaudiola = Arteta plays tiki taka.

If you have a nail, everything na hammer. If you string passes, e don be tiki taka.

I can even refer to a coach in a South American league that just watched wenger ball and is using it currently. He's never met wenger or been at Colney. If Toure is successful tomorrow, they'll probably say na TikiTaka grin

Same homebase players in the NPFL
that could beat their opponents 4-1 or 4-0
Then go away to the opponent country and not scored even one on multiple occasions?

Same homebase that if the limelight hit them, they’ve been signed to back water leagues or mid leagues
How can you create a team with the home ?

Because after every match they’ve been signed up and no longer homebase.

like, Argentina were very direct in approach. Nobody told the Croats to decongest middle after 2-0. They still failed in matching intensity. Even the best are victims of their own one way football philosophy.

One reason i totally detest the homebased talk is that those that have been shouting it since i was in primary school can't even pinpoint one achievement with a stride of consistency and investment in the League that they became something close to an overload of unquestionable talents for even a foreign manager. It's either they are imposed, forced or propaganda with loads of evidence that proves they can't hold their own.

Okay Super Eagles B is there. Pinpoint something that will turn our heads in their display!!!

Even if someone wants to invest half or a quarter of what Morocco are doing to their Sport Sector, we will not see the results. Gym equipments and Tech tools will disappear or be faulty and stolen in no time.

The NPFL needs a 20yr blueprint. One that is devoid of greedy leaders and stupid rules or Power hungry dons like what Kano Pillars were trying to do when relegated.

IMO,the first step to achieve all these is to let all these state government for away with club ownership in Nigeria...Most state government are incompetent when it comes to issues regarding generation and management of revenue..That's why a lot of them have to wait for federal government allocation before they can pay salaries...
Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia remains the only governor with a track record of investing well in a state owned club. That investment yielded results and made Enyimba one of Africa biggest club.. But unfortunately,it wasn't sustained in the long run...

The private sector in Nigeria has proven it's capability as we have seen in the entertainment and tech industries...
