Nihilistjnr I know as long as the law remains, the likes of Amoto and other fanatics will always hide behind it and use it as a defense to kill.

However, the law aside, Amoto innately believes death is the answer to every deemed blasphemous utterance. This is who he is law or no law and this is the crux of the matter. The law is just a means to an end.

If you live in the UK where there is no death penalty. Yet you have a serial killer who was caught and only given jail term. In your mind you can wish for more and feel this punishment is not deserving but its what the law says

Which is why I always defer to the law of the land. Arguing the unfairness of a law is in most cases a futile exercise as its bigger than you or I. Unless you can push through the needed legislative arms to make the change

You can smoke weed in America but there are places where such will get you jailed or even killed. You can either obey or argue if its unfair

Bundling into a country 2 people who have different standard might be the injustice that needs to be tackled

As long as you continue to conflate judicial process with extra judicial killings. You will never truly comprehend the gravity of what it means to have capital penalty for blasphemy offence in Nigeria

If you truly understood what I'm telling you, you wouldn't be forming obidient or inconsequentially trying to take the moral high ground. You would want to divide the country immediately.

There is a law in that country that allows you, a non-muslim, to be sentenced to death by the courts in your own country, for simply saying something against another religion.

You are legally a second-class citizen in the country of your birth.

You really need to take a moment to contemplate this fact before you try to respond to me. This one pass online debate.
I understand you Egbon and that is why we shouldn't keep quiet but speak more about this issue. Infact not speaking up and against it means we're truly what they think we are seeing as there is no way this country can be divided as you're suggesting.

The best route in our current reality remains advocacy and more and more people need to speak up. Shebi you want us to turn to Nnamdi Kanu or Sunday Igbowo ni?
Or how do intend we go our separate ways?

I will use the US as an example where punishment differ from State to state. You can kill in a state and get the chair while in another state get jailterm.

Yet they are able to make it work. You cannot be from New York, go to Texas and kill then say its unfair to treat you with Texas laws and you should be subjected to New York laws

Within the US a very good example is abortion

In some states you can get life in prison for abortion while in another state you can literally do the abortion in the governors office

So who is right and who is wrong here? One who believes anyone who does abortion is a murderer and should be jailed for life or the other person who believes you are free to make any choice you want with your body?

Who is right is your personal belief and will differ from one person to the next
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 7:48pm On Dec 15, 2022
What nihilistjnr is saying is the law is supposed to be equal across board.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

Unless you have a situation where there is cross execution and cross lynching of people for blasphemy against every belief system , we are living in a society of laws for thee but not for me.

I will tell you Christians have their issues. They always have a divine mission to shove their religion down your throat. But as I recall, every time I told a Christian that jesus (isa) is a prophet, they laughed at me. They did not get angry and violent at my blasphemy and disrespect and denigration of their Lord. (that is ultimately what it is)

But say something silly like this teddy bear is named Muhammed ..

Go and listen to comedians in the US. Some have a shitck of mocking God. Eg George Carlin.

Some Muslims will say we are muslims and because you tolerate mockery of your religion does not mean we will do the same. But Islam already mocks and knocks other religions. So that is just a double standard binded by dogma.

We cannot claim to be a democracy where everyone is equal and have this

I actually on and off feel the same way (splitting Nigeria) Because the north cannot claim to be against boko haram when they broadly have the same goals. An Islamic state governed by sharia.

1. I don't think what Deborah did qualifies as blasphemy

2. I don't support killing on the basis of blasphemy because of many reasons which I can write a page about.
i) Religion when you look at it carefully is silly and doesn't make sense to anyone who thinks of it critically (That includes the religion you and I follow -excluding Otemology though)
ii) Most religions are propagated by disrespecting other religions so if we want to do killing for blasphemy, everyone will end up dead.
iii) Blasphemy laws are usually subjctive to the interpreter. You can hear one thing that sounds blaphemous and I will her the same thing and be okay with it (E.g Tinubu calling Allah our father)
iv) Human beings create religion and move the goalpost when they want. So what wasnt blaphemous today can become tomorrow

3. All these opinions of mine become Bullsheet the moment I enter a location that has blasphemy laws. While I can say this openly here Nairaland. I dare not try it on Saudi Riyaland or Syrialand and definitely not on the street of Kano or Sokoto

I don't even understand why the argument is being Soo prolonged.
This argument is a MORAL argument not a LEGAL argument..

Amoto supports the sentiment that Deborah be killed as the Quran says or rather as his sects interprets it.

The argument about the legal standing of blasphemy is another entire argument separate from Amoto's sentiment that Deborah should be legally killed for "blasphemy".

The US has always been like this and survived 300yrs. Human ideologies keep moving. What is liberal today will be conservative tomorrow.
Sometime back a woman wearing sleeveless is extremely liberal now only extreme conservatives will do that

Before abolishing slavery was a liberal idea now its not even conservative
Just this week GAY right is now the law across the US, 20yrs ago, only extreme liberals used to identify as it

I watch movies from the late 90s and early 2000s where everyone laughed at anyone gay, now you cant even have a movie without a GAY character. Now children are actually transitioning and taking hormone blockers to change their sex

Think about every social issue from weed, abortion, same sex marriage, interracial marriage, dressing, gender identity etc

Now we have women refereeing a football match in Qatar. They are saying gender is fluid. Men are playing women sport and vice versa Next you will have men and women merged to play in EPL so Chelsea FC will field 6men and 5 women to face Real Madrid. Maybe the 2034 world cup might be combined men and women

So there might become a time where the conservative opinion on punishment for killing will be jailterm while the liberal punishment might become counseling

There wont be no civil war, they will just adjust position with the right moving slightly left and the left moving further left

It deeply irritate me to see those who campaigned for Buhari campaigning for Okwute.

They’re dumb and never learn.

-New party format
-Fight corruption
-Rescue Nigeria bla bla bla
-No extravagant lifestyle yen yen yen
-Common man lifestyle
-Attacking ruling party
-Toxicity
-Social media insults
-Zero achievements when they had power.

Just take your time and go through Buhari’s pattern and this Okwute, same deceitful formats. Nigerians just dey fvckin gullible.

This country is irredeemable. It’s better I don’t vote and perish, than campaign and vote for thieves who’ll still do what others have been doing without me gaining anything from their corrupt activities.

Debates and advocacy are great, the problem is, the North still has the highest representation in both houses, with over 90% of the representatives from the North being Muslims with strong conservative ideologies. Don't forget, many of the representatives from the South are also Muslims who also hold strong conservative ideologies

That means, it is nearly impossible to have any change(s) to these laws because members of the both houses irrespective of party affiliation will not support any changes that affects their religious beliefs on a personal level and more importantly the support they get from their base.

You are not going to get any kind of bi-partisan support from North on any of these changes, consequently, it is dead on arrival.

I was even discussing along with one of my padi for school yewterday suddenly, he asked me, who am I voting for? I said Tinubu, he was shocked being that he is from kaduna south, I repeated it... Tinubu mr man. He said why now... I was surprised he was asking why?
I immediately knew the angle he was coming from. He hates El rufai more than the devil and even wish he can exchange it with devil ( a red flag).

I told him I recognise the fact that the APC ticket is not being fair to my Christain brothers but I look beyond religion when choosing a leader.

He said he prefers Atiku or Obi, I said fine. But whatever comes from voting Atiku, be ready for another Fulani bloodshed like my guy in power now.
Werey was somehow not happy. I told him I choose Tinubu simply because he has the best team for the job. Werey was nodding an I said, while respect your decision to go for either obi or Atiku, please do well by looking beyond social media, orators and messiah. History has taught us a lot about them.

Larride, I keep repeating this here that the presidency is beyond one man.
Someone here once asked me if I went back in time today to 2015 despite knowing what I know whether I will still vote APC and I said yes. Because despite the failure of the party's administration, their emergence has inevitably led to a better democracy for Nigeria.

Even though the PDP has failed as an opposition, Nigeris is still not a one party state and that we have relatively strong electoral laws today and hopes of a freer election next year is because of the fact that both parties don't want either of themselves to rig the other out in the states they control.

So APCs emergence did pave the way for the present Obi phenomenon. If APC did not win, they would have most likely splintered after that election and we would have no choice. We would have been like our African neighbours. One party for 50 years just like PDP had bragged. Just like we see in Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the likes.

That's the same thing I'm doing today, campaigning for what an Obi presidency REPRESENTS. A campaign not backed by looted fund's. A campaign funded and energized by the common masses. An Obi win gives him a chance of telling the establishment, none pf you put me here, the people put me here and I will work for them..
That's the beauty of what the Obi presidency represents. One who is outside of the establishment. One who no state Governor is backing with looted state funds or corrupt money. One who is being pushed by the average citizen.

So yes. That Buhari was a failure does not mean we don't move on and fight again for a better choice. Buhari failed but democracy survived.

I didn't see that last point coming. The slow shift towards liberalism, isn't that a good thing? At least going by the earlier points you made about slavery, female dressing and LGBT human rights??

As for the football aspect, it does sound akward but certainly not impossible. We have some weak males and strong females who both play football. I don't think it will bad to trial the idea of mixed gender sports so far as it doesn't affect the quality of the game.

Now get my point, the best male footballer is most likely better than the best female footballer but the busy female footballer is most likely better than many average make footballers. So not totally impossible.

Meanwhile amoto and reccy don hold Labor Party hostage for Kogi

https://www.nairaland.com/7482477/labour-party-queries-kogi-state

The national secretariat of the Labour Party queried the Kogi State chapter of the party over the poor outing that greeted the Presidential campaign rally in Kogi state.

* It was gathered that most of the attendees, mobilized from neighboring Enugu State to Lokoja for the rally, invaded the Ganaja Road secretariat of the party and held party officials captive for several hours asking for their mobilisation payment.
