Permit me to vent Ircc is messing with my mental health. It would have been better if they said their processing time is 15weeks or less! Than stating 9weeks. I don't even know what to say again... school fees paid, my school is resuming in 3 weeks, course registration is ongoing and ending on Tuesday! Ordered cbsa @6week, returned @8weeks with no news...just medical Passed. App is over 9weeks now... no eligibility review. Nothing new to give me hope. My chest is paining me 6 Likes |

Please, among those that arrived Canada recently, did you try changing naira to Canadian dollars at their airport? And how is their rate? |

Ladies and Gentlemen, Compliments of the season!!!!! I need your inputs please!!! My SP was refused based on financial asset. I requested for CBSA and the report came in. I’ll start by saying I don’t know how VO’s sometimes reasons when it comes to applications from young Nigerians (I know being a Nigerian has happened to me) My Brief background: - Single applicant - Working - tuition fee - approximately 18kCAD - One year program. - Paid tuition deposit (2,650CAD) - I had fixed deposit (All letters were submitted including rollover and liquidation) - N8m - my bank statement- N6.2m (sponsors N5m + my 1.2m) - Pension statement - N4m plus - Coming inflow from my running business contract from one of the biggest Telcom company which will be due first quarter of 2023 (letters attached) - N10m plus - Sponsor - my mom (transferred N5m to my account with letter of support and affidavit). - Sponsors occupation- Government sector (Chief Environmental Officer) - Documentation for Sponsor - employment letter, paystubs, ID, promotion letter, stamped Canada visa (I didn’t submit her bank statement). Sponsor was even in Canada when I applied. NB: My sibling is a Canadian citizen, I didn’t mention him because: - I didn’t want the VO to think I can’t sponsor myself, my mom was the best choice. - To avoid stronger ties in Canada. - and the school isn’t in same province where he live. Omo! I go sue this guys with immigration lawyers o! (Na joke I Dey joke lol). So guys, what do you think I should do differently. Do you think I should use my sibling as sponsor now. I have deferred my admission to May 2023. Thank you 1 Like

Army2022: Feel free to vent lol. Don't forget to defer timely so you don't loose the admission while waiting for IRCC. There's no harm if your visa is approved months before you resume if you defer. You don't want to have an expired loa or have your admission withdrawn before your visa is out. Good luck |

RuggedArab: From my point of view: Your application looks ok but not so good if these were the only documents you submitted, however, judging from the VO's reasons, *Was your funds still fixed with no near liquidation timeframe in sight? *Was your mum's fund and yours part of the money you fixed? *Did you submit evidence of your work like your employment letter, letter of introduction, payslips, leave letter etc Or you did for just your mum? *Did you proof your relationship with your mum with her Nigerian valid ID, pictures taken together etc? Saying she's your mum is not enough. *Did you prove hometies, stuff that should bring you back? - family, work, better job offer, properties etc. *Did you show that she's financially able to sustain you with her current income or did you just state that she works along with her work documents. By this I mean, did you state what her annual income is like, how much she's setting aside for you or the expenses she's willing to cover? *Are your siblings still depending on her for financial support? Adding yours to her financial commitments without being able to proof she's capable of sustaining you all won't fly. *Lastly be sure to extensively explain how you will sustain your self through out the duration of your program. You necessarily don't need to show POF for your total duration. Money yet to come may not suffice as POF, I'm not sure whose pension statement you provide but it can only serve as hometies if it's yours and not POF cos you can't readily access your pension funds if need arises. 5 Likes 1 Share |

RuggedArab: I will advice you to reapply and this time try paying the one year tuition fee complete and have the money for your upkeep in your account. Also try adding your tax records , income and also any property in your name like Car(s), house, business and land to show strong home ties. With all this you are good to go. |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by Goldentony2nice: 12:11pm On Dec 17, 2022 |
To add to what @Johnstan has explained, if I were the VO, I would think; if you have good business/contract with multinational telco running into millions, why not wait for it to materialize and gather your own funds to sponsor yourself? Why hurry to use other sponsors now? RuggedArab: |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by RuggedArab: 12:18pm On Dec 17, 2022 |
mrprolifik: Thank you for your response. Honestly, I don’t like keeping huge liquid funds in my account when there is no interest earned. I like putting money here and there to add more… I hope you understand. How about paying my first semester tuition which is 9kCAD. I submitted properties (land and house) in my name. I also did power of attorney for my mom’s property and building project too. There are outflows from my bank statement showing I’m supporting the building project too. |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by mrprolifik: 12:44pm On Dec 17, 2022 |
RuggedArab: The reason why I gave you that advice is because , your case seems to be similar to that of my cousin. He is self sponsored . Below is how his story went. First application: I. Submitted study permit application by paying the minimum tuition deposit. II. Showed the rest of the tuition + money for upkeep for a year in his bank account. It's a 1 year program. III. Added copies of his tax records and salary earned for the pass 3years till the last month prior to his application submission. IV. Added documents showing ownership of car, and also employment letter. After 4 months of waiting , his study permit application was refused . Mainly because he couldn't explain properly to convince the visa officer how the program he intended to study related with his job and the visa officer wasn't conviced of his home ties. After the rejection letter he submitted another application within a week of the refusal with all the same documents as before and also included a well written 4 page letter of explanation . His home ties were his sibling , parents and his job. After 3 months he got a message from IRCC to submit a proof of payment of 1year complete tuition within a month of getting that mail. He did and after 2weeks he got his PPR. 7 Likes |

johnstan: - The money was fixed for 90days putting in consideration the 12weeks processing time. - The funds was solely mine. - I submitted my employment letter, promotion letters and letter of introduction. - I submitted our Int’l passports, my birth certificate which her name is also inside the certificate, our fully vaccinated covid card, pictures when we went for biometrics. - I stated my job, my running contract with MTN nigeria, my properties (land and house inherited all in my name) power of attorney letter for my moms land and ongoing building project which I’m also contributing to build. I also showed by stating in my SOP that I’m the head of the family since my dad is late. I also stated that the program will make me enter senior managerial levels since I am currently a manager in acting capacity. - I only stated that she’s supporting with N5m which is a one off payment having transferred the sum into my account. I showed her payslips and employment letter. - all my siblings are not dependent on her. |

Please does anyone know where someone can change their money to Canadian dollars at cheap rate in Lagos, also what's the highest amount a person can travel with in cash. |
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by johnstan(m): 1:49pm On Dec 17, 2022 |
RuggedArab: Ok great. *For your next application try not to use a fixed deposit account. Some people have used it successfully and some haven't so to be on the safer side liquidate the funds before you reapply. *Using your mum as a sponsor and saying her funds sent to you is a one off is contradictory. If she's going to be your sponsor then she will have to support you till the end of your program. If she's only making a one off payment (which would reflect as a lump sum in your account) then get a gift deed to back it up and leave her out as a sponsor. If you still intend to use her as a sponsor then ensure you explain how she will handle the role till you're done with your program cos the VO will check to confirm she can really support you till the end. 1 Like |

FranklynJonin: I'm not sure about CAD but any bureau de change around you can help you with USD. You can credit this to your dom account or hold as cash while traveling. Ensure it's not up to $10,000 so you won't have issues with immigration. |

Good day nairalanders, I would please love your advice on this my situation. So I got admission to a program for fall 2022 but my study permit came in December. The school withdrew my application because my study permit came late. On my letter of Acceptance, it states that the expiration of the acceptance is 19th September 2022. The program doesn’t have winter or spring term only fall for 2023. And sadly the school doesn’t even have any program for winter or spring terms. Is it possible for me to travel with this letter of acceptance to Canada, and when I reach there I could search for another school? My study permit is valid till 2024 1 Share

Jnsionu4:. If you plan to change your DLI or program before you travel , then you must inform IRCC and in such a case you would need to apply for another study permit. So your best option is to apply for that same program in the same college for fall 2023 and all you need to do is update or inform IRCC of your new letter of acceptance so that when you travel next year you wont have any problem. 7 Likes |

Good afternoon ,Canadian study visa gurus ,ive been following this thread for a while and I'm finally ready to begin my journey , Before the end of this month I will be applying to Durham college for a 4year degree course in journalism and creative writing ,I'm worried because on their website it says that resumption date is in may ,and I'm not sure how long it will take to get admission , and I've seen some people who have applied for visa almost six months no decision ,I feel the time isint enough, also on the website it says that the deposit is 500 CAD ,But someone on this platform who got admission into Durham was told to pay the full amount ,I thought we would at least pay half ,then when I arrive I would pay the rest, but I would appreciate any advice or suggestion anybody has that can assist me ,also anybody who has applied to Durham or has gotten admissions please text ,I would like to ask you some questions. Thanks in advance |
