A lot of things happen before and during that match.

First I believe most south Americans do not find flattering that comment of Mbappe about South American football being less competitive compared to what obtains in Europe. It appears he was dissing them. Now Messi might not really be outspoken about things like that and would always skip press men questions surrounding such controversies, but people like Martinez and the rest of the team will not hesitate to leave egg in the face of someone like Mbappe when they have the chance.

I also watched a video of Martinez before Tchouameni penalty which he saved.
