1. No. They can hold skilled worker visas independently.
2. Yes. The employer does not have any responsibility over a skilled worker's dependents except perhaps in the initial stage of saying they'd provide upkeep for the first month or so. Once you have the skilled worker visa, adding dependents or whatever other modification is between you and home office.

So the answer can safely be no.

The overarching issue to bear in mind though is with regard to counting toward ILR, if you're intending to switch back and forth between visa types you should check the rules.

UKVI said they are looking to completely phase out physical BRP’s by December 2024. So I think any issuance that’s seen as unnecessary is being dropped. I don’t think you’ll have issues if you have official correspondence to that effect.

It depends on the long term UK goal of the person in question.

A friend of mine who's less than a year in the country has a score 860 (out of 1k) on Experian.

She has no credit card neither used any credit service. I've persuaded her to get a credit card but she's not interested. She only pays her bills and reported and rent. In fact, she didn't know of credit reporting or score until I showed, however the score was adding up because she was meeting her financial obligations.

She says she's not interested in getting a mortgage or any credit facility in the UK as she wants to relocate after getting ILR or Citizenship.

So, living one's normal life can improve the score and ratings, perhaps at a slow pace. But without credit history, loan credibility might be low when one is hunting for a deal.

Again, it depends on the long term UK goal.

Apply online. Take your chances ( around 15% ) Provided you have a credit file already and you drop a substantial deposit(upfront).

Even if her goal is to relocate, I believe there are ways to leverage your UK credit history to get better credit in the US or EU.
Why not get a CC, use it for regular shopping and just setup direct debit to pay it off?

A friend of mine who's been here four years didn't do anything credit or credit card according to him. He also didn't check his credit score. He needed to do something one time and was required to get a credit card, he got one, checked his score and it was excellent. Thing is I can't tell if he obtained any form of credit along the line without realising it.

Hi, here my is story, when I came in last year, I started applying for as many as data analyst role to to my skills set, not any work experience. I stopped applying when my wife failed one of her courses which makes me look in the way of searching for care jobs that could sponsor visa because it was stated that she might not be eligible cos of the failure, but luckily for us she was given the opportunity to resit for assessment due to child birth that made her failed the course at first attempt.

It is very unlikely. The idea of credit score (and history) is to know your integrity with borrowing and repaying. A Bank won't want to give you £200k for a house when they haven't seen proof you can be trusted to repay.

Well, there are so many advantages of having a credit card aside building credit score
1. Some airlines would only accept credit card payments when paying at the airport (e.g ryanair)
2. Chargebacks and claiming refunds.
3. Emergency funds safety net

Too many applications in a short period of time will work against you

You've just applied to get onto the electoral register which is good. Credit worthiness also takes into account proof of identity, address and stability (length of time at a registered address) all of which being on the register will help, and your score should increase in time the longer you are on the register.

What are you saying? In a country where literally everything is credit based, why will you shortchange yourself by avoiding credit?

If you’re so risk averse, you set up protections to ensure your payments aren’t late. Having a credit card isn’t a passport for uncontrolled spending, so I don’t know what your problem is.
