I understand that the world is large and that people have different customs and outlooks on life. The following is however borne out of 30 years of living in Nigeria amongst Nigerians and probably has no bearing on happenings elsewhere.

After some musings I've come to the conclusion that the average man loves idealistically despite the fact that he masquerades as a pragmatist. The average man is the true romantic.

The average Nigerian man is under immense pressure to be a sole provider/protector, regardless of inflation and recession. Any man who fails to do so is considered an outright failure. Men are expected to not just care for their immediate families alone, but also for their extended families as well, both biological and marital. As a result, marriage is mostly seen as a poverty alleviation scheme of some sort by many of the female gender.

The average woman on the other hand loves opportunistically despite being perceived as a romantic. Hence the popular saying by women here, i.e. date who we love but marry who is ready. A self fulfilling prophecy that rings true always, like a 6am church bell.

As women continue to achieve financial liberation and no longer have to depend on the men in society for financial support, one would think that it would prevent the practice of marriage for socioeconomic reasons. Thus marriage won't be defined by the need to marry a well to do man.

The reverse is actually the case.

There's a theory known as hypergamy which states that women tend to marry up and across not down. Now there are women who marry down but they make up the exception, not the rule.

With ladies making as much as their average male counterparts, the urge to marry them is greatly diminished. Instead, a lot of ladies tend to look up to marrying an ever shrinking pool of higher earning men.

This is creating a kind of pseudo-polygamy in society in which high earning men have an endless clutter of ladies to choose from. Many of whom have no reservations to sharing a man. Polygamy is back.

The pidgin (creole) term "suffer-love" is used now more than ever to derogatorily describe a young couple who are pinching their pennies in order to make ends meet.

I cannot do "suffer-love" exclaim many a woman. Most of whom have been bitten by the bug of materialism and suffer from Dunning-Kruger's syndrome (a strong belief that they are better than they actually are).

This has led to a huge disconnect in our society where young men of modest means trapped by the system have to resort to sharp and fast practices in hopes of having enough money to attract and keep a potential mate.

In the meantime, the high earners have an ever increasing pool of women to sample from and dump. In turn, ladies will cry "all men" failing to recognize and even accept responsibility for her own choices.

If you are a high earner, rejoice, you are the prize. Even a high earning woman will compete for your attention. High earning woman do not earn money to marry low earning men. They're always looking up.

The era of polygamy is back.

In practice however, most ladies will openly go after a married man with kids. Many will claim that they were deceived but this is not true for most of them.

Even women knowingly attempt to snatch their friends man or date him alongside their friend secretly.

Why is it that women fight over community joysticks instead of just leaving them for a decent man?

It is your choice bro. Polygamy is not for everyone. I personally can not and never will engage with more than 1 woman at a time. My Granpappies had more than 1 wife and they don't get sh!t from their wives like our generation. Polygamy brings transparency and reduce the monopolistic nature of average women with the mentality of "I will do whatever I want, I will act crazy and you (the man) always have to find a way to appease me because I am the only one".

That is why some people in the game say "If you like sex, stay unmarried or go polygamy" monogamy is monopoly.

The men with money and means enjoying their best lives.
