A group of gunmen have abducted four students of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, and the driver of their vehicle, along Akunnu-Ajowa Road in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday.

The students were said to be travelling home for the Yuletide before the hoodlums allegedly waylaid them on the road and dragged them into the bush.

It was gathered that some hours after the abduction of the students, the bandits contacted the families of the victims, demanding a sum of N16m for their release A source in Ajowa Akoko Community said, “The kidnappers of the victims have contacted their families and they are demanding N3m for the release of each of the students and N4m for the driver.”

A community leader and former Vice Chairman to Akoko North-West Local Government, Mr Ajayi Bakare, who confirmed the incident, said the driver of the vehicle had been warned by the parents of the students not to take the route where they were kidnapped, as the route was notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery.

The Ikare Area Commander of the Ondo State Police Command, Muri Agboola, who confirmed the incident, said his men had been combing the forests along the Akunnu-Ajowa Akoko Road to rescue the abducted students.

How many yorubas have gone home to their villages due to the fear of insecurities ravaging their states. Many of you have abandoned your states and are now taking refuge in Lagos and Abuja. Go back and develop your brown roof states..

Anybody found guilty of kidnapping should be promptly executed by firing squad and televised nationally without even passing through Nigeria’s notorious and lethargic legal system.

Everyday the police would be combing the forests to locate the kidnapped, what happens to the tracking of phone calls especially around the radius the call was made? Can the technology used in tracking stolen vehicles be applied to the tracking of the ransom money? I don't think this kind of rubbish kidnapping can thrive in developed countries for so long without solutions

The combing of forest they will be doing with blasting of serene 1km away and they will broadcast it on radio 2-3days before... It all eye service... Truth is they aren't ready to end this menace... The police are also chopping from that money... If you notice police tends to arrest low profile kidnapping by phone tracking and surveillance cos they have nothing to gain... Besides many testimonies from victims have prove the police are in on most of the kidnappings
