No fewer than seven women died on Wednesday when a passenger bus went up in flames along Sagamu-Benin expressway.

DAILY POST reports that the victims were burnt beyond recognition, as seven others sustained injuries in the lone crash.

It was learnt that the accident occurred at the Odogbolu junction of the highway in Ogun State, involving a Mazda bus marked AGL 886 YD.

The 15-seater bus was said to have suddenly gone up in flames due to engine oil overflow along the highway.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE),Babatunde Akinbiyi, has confirmed the incident.

According to him, the crash occurred around 2:50pm, involving the victims, who were worshippers coming from the Kosofe Area of Lagos State, inbound Epe.

Akinbiyi said they were going for a church revival to usher in the new year 2023.

Aside from the driver, who escaped unhurt, Akinbiyi said the remaining 14 female adults suffered either death or burns.

“The number of passengers in the commercial bus was 15, out of which seven females were burnt to death, while the remaining seven were seriously burnt and taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for treatment,” he said.

They were Islamic women going for a conference (Al-Mumina'at). However, the organisers of the programme had cancelled the event to honour the Muslim faithfuls.

I read about it on a WhatsApp contact's status, a heavily pregnant woman was amongst the casualties. They were going for a Muslim program not church revival as stated in the op. May Allah grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus and console the loved ones they left behind

Very sad and pathetic incident, it is heart wrenching to lose a loved one in such a gory manner.

avoidable incident if proper maintenance and periodic checks are carried out on the vehicles plying our road.

May God console the bereaved family and grant the depart soul eternal rest.

There was nothing the driver could do,, we are talking about fire here the only reasonable thing was to escape first then get down on his knees and pray for the others escape safely.

So terrifying

Nigeria is just a hell of country, no emergency services, no fire service at sight, but drivers will be over speeding
