Imo, Korean firm strike deal on $7bn Smart City


A South Korean group, Grace Bridge WID Limited, has concluded plans with the Imo state government to set up a Smart City in the state.

This followed the successful visit of the Commissioner for Budget, Planning and Statistics, Dr C.C. Osuala, to South Korea recently during which modalities for the establishment of the business hub was discussed.

The commissioner, who disclosed this to Blueprint over the weekend, said a memorandum of understanding was signed after a return visit to the state by the Koreans.
He said the state’s prudence in budgeting, which had since been acknowledged by the World Bank through the internationally acclaimed award of States’ Fiscal Transparency Accountability System (SFTAS), led to the interest shown by the Koreans.

Describing the proposed Smart City project as “first of its kind in Africa”, Dr Osuala said the project would cost 7 billion US Dollars and would be sited in a 2,000 hectare land in Mbaitoli local government area of the state, adding that it would create 5,000 jobs for Imo indigenes in particular and Nigerians in general.


He listed the features of the Smart City project to include a 24/7 power supply with hydro and solar energy running simultaneously, a FIFA standard stadium, an Olympic sized swimming pool, world class high rise hospitals, with helipads where helicopters would be landing to pick patients and other high rise edifices; educational institutions to be populated with people from different continents; adequate security, among others.

The commissioner said the Korean investors would fund it and eventually recoup what they spend through the sales they would organise, especially as very important personalities would be coming from different parts of the world to patronise the services that would be available in the city.

I would hope we can have a more culturally specific and relevant icon but that may be wishful thinking. Whatever makes Orlu people happy is fine.

What I do know and agree with is that Uzodinma hates the Orlu zone for reasons that are beyond me. Meanwhile many in the zone supported him under the pretense of 'our own'. Hofully we've learned.

Apart from demolishing the iconic gate at Orlu,
Hope Uzodinma also demolished the Banana junction Roundabout which hitherto was a point of pride and reference to Orlu.
He painted lines that would be quickly washed away by floods at the junction.

One wonders why Uzodinma does not think about how his successors will treat whatever he builds in his hometown.

Things I saw way back from the lively settings Rochas organized, I felt the need to relocate and run small businesses in Imo state, whereas I’m very far from being an IMO state dude.
You guys did me dirty sincerely lol the insecurity now made me regret establishing here, although the businesses flourished during Rochas, but when Ihedioha came in, most of my clients from North Central started relocating back to either ABJ or PH mostly, I was still trying my best until Uzodimma came on board lol, I’ve seen his quality projects to be sincere, but the killings under his nose made everywhere a mess.
I’m boxed within Owerri Municipal, World Bank, PH rd and other places like Orji, nekede, akwakuma and other LOWKEY places prone to attacks, I stir clear, just drive by as fast as I can to avoid stories for my family lol

I wish the fun Owerri of the past would wake up again.

PH is my base now, Awka is cool, but they don’t have ballers mentality like Owerri, Eyes on Abakiliki and Coal city.

According to the story, summarily, the man was asked to refund school fees spent on the lady,he was also was to identify his wife after 12ladies were arraigned and covered in robes. On failing to identify his wife ,he was placed another hefty fine..

The narrator of this fake story refused to name the particular town this happened. The promoters of this story only have one aim and that is to demarket a blessed state like Imo.

Just this morning,I saw another unchained rabid dog from Anambra say that Imo state charge more than N5m for a traditional wedding...

It's high time we begin to sue those fools and promoters of fake news against IMO who become blind about deviances in their own states but begin to exhibit irritability on Imo by promoting fake news...

The other day, it was reported here that Hope Uzodinma has closed IMSUTH in Orlu, the only govt institution here, as IMSU no longer admits new students in Medicine.

Let's stop deceiving ourselves here.

I have a neighbour from Orlu who didn't come home this Christmas because of violence in her town. She told me that her mother specifically told her to stay back in Lagos until the atmosphere becomes calm because security operatives are killing young people in their large numbers.

Her mother told her that Ebube Agu men, soldiers and unknown gunmen always exchange gunshots almost every day.

I don't know why and how things deteriorated to this point, but we have to tell ourselves the truth. If someone from Orlu cannot visit her own home due to insecurity, how do you expect contactors who don't come from there to mobilize to such unsafe places and site projects?

The truth is, until Orlu people decide that enough is enough, work with security operatives to fish out the bad eggs in their midst, development will continue to elude that zone.

Nothing, I mean nothing, can be achieved in an environment where there's no peace. This is a no-brainer. That's why it is said that the primary responsibility of government is the security of lives and property. No matter how much it hurts, the truth must be told at all times.
