The hottest gist in town now is Obasanjo’s public and official endorsement of Peter Obi for the 2023 presidential elections. Not like political observers didn’t know where Obasanjo stood all along, but putting pen to paper on it is what is making the talk of town now.

Expectedly, the supporters of Obi’s opponents in the election are not taking the news in good faith. But why would they? The news isn’t palatable to them; it wasn’t meant to be.

But what Nigerians can do is to interrogate Obasanjo’s judgment and ask ourselves if we can trust him.

There’s only one way to do this, and that’s by examining his past judgments and knowing the outcome for the generality of Nigeria and Nigerians.

The first endorsement Obasanjo did after his administration was to midwife Yaradua’s emergence as candidate of PDP and campaigning for him all over Nigeria while asking Nigerians to trust him and give Yaradua a chance. Nigerians gave Yaradua a chance and till today, Nigerians give testimony to what a great President Yaradua would have been if he hadn’t died in office. So, we can say Obasanjo was right with that judgment.

The second endorsement Obasanjo made after his administration was to ask Nigerians to give Jonathan a chance in 2011 after he succeeded Yaradua. I want to believe that it was not Obasanjo’s intention for Yaradua to die in office but when it happened, he felt Jonathan should be given a chance to prove himself. Did Jonathan disappoint? That is debatable; especially when juxtaposed with the current administration. The only fault of Jonathan was in allowing insurgency to fester when it should have been nipped in the bud and not being able to control some of his appointees who engaged in stupendous corruption which was where the disagreement between Jonathan and Obasanjo started. But aside that, Jonathan was a good man and Nigeria witnessed positive growth. So, again, Obasanjo was proven right in his judgment.

In 2019, Obasanjo, for the first time, in possibly for lack of alternatives, closed his eyes on whatever grouse he has with Atiku and threw his weight behind him, though not in the degree he (Obasanjo) is doing it for Obi right now. If anything, Obasanjo never made his endorsement of Atiku public in 2019. However, Atiku lost the 2019 election and we will never find out if he was right or wrong in that judgment.

Now, as the 2023 elections approach, Obasanjo is asking Nigerians to trust his judgment and give Peter Obi a chance to rescue Nigeria from the precipice it currently finds herself.

From the antecedents of his judgment, do you think Nigerians will be wrong to trust Obasanjo?

We have long made up our minds here in the South South. That your divide and conquer favours only you, it's time for a government that will favour ALL NIGERIANS irrespective of tribe or political affiliations.

Then we meet at the polls
Before then APC will be shaken and stirred. All those APC stalwarts working secretly for Atiku will start endorsing him.

LP will get a lot of Endorsement from different parts of the country and this will rattle APC more.

Tinubu will continue begging G5 until they finally tell him that their people said no.

Finally we'll meet at the polls.

This I have seen.

At his prime yes he was okay as an opportunist that cashes in at the right time.

You ascribe him with the victory of 2015 polls but it was Buhari that insisted on running a Christian-Muslim ticket which was generally accepted to oust Jonathan from power.

Now Tinubu is suffering from age related mental decline. Those around him are trying to use his old templates to make it look like he's still in control but everyone can see through the deception. His time is past already. I wish him happy retirement.

Maybe you'll be the next Jagaban who knows. cool

Obasanjo and Atiku has personal problems, and he never liked Tinubu, right from their beef when Tinubu was governor. You are a kid if you think, this is anything but seeking personal interest.
