CDG1: As a seller that is being asked to supply on credit, ask the same from the client. His response to the above request will be very revealing of his or her motives. Secondly, better ask now than when relations turn sour. You are a very smart guy. If I were in your territory, you would be my supplier. All those companies that lend money vacuum up contacts, messages and more before giving out their money. Your goods are money's equivalent 1 Like |

At the bolded, why should a Chinese be in charge of our quarry here, this is one question nobody has been able to answer, we live in a very messed up country. FEGEITOK:Not only is that business capital intensive, it involves lots of moving parts. Meaning there would be lots of wear and tear on the equipment making it hard to be sustained. Unless you have access to quick source for replacement parts, down times might ruin the business. That is where those Chinese have an edge. In just a short interval, they are able to replace broken parts, being that they have a grip on the logistics and supply chain. 1 Like |

sonnie10:come on nah , Nigerians has never been good in thinking outside the box and we love the band wagon thing. Once Mr A does this, until Mr Z does the same it won't change.the number of uncompleted hotels is still much more than the ones running. Construction machineries is not for the lazy brains, 247 calculations are done even when the machine is idle. Nigeria brains are not built for that. 3 Likes |

GloriousGbola: There is another issue. The way this country is run, to invest certain sums of money into certain businesses requires that you have obtained the tacit and not so tacit approval of certain power blocks (in power and outside power but that wield influence) that can affect your business for good and for bad. I don't believe we don't have smart people and rich people here. I believe that overhang is a burden not everyone is willing to absorb. Hence the majority go for the low-hanging fruit which is trading. The Chinese who do have made the necessary friends to start and stay in the business. Having obtained such approval, you must remain in the good books too, so the approval does not become disapproval later. 4 Likes |

CDG1: You all arguing no pay on delivery blablabla, you think buyers are not at the receiving end too? Buyer's don't get scammed?.. I paid for 2 trips of sharp sand since August/September...was to use it for plastering but he told my engineer that his truck got spoilt and he needed to fix it.. We had to pay for another supplier to supply us cos my plaster guy was already around and he came all the way from Abuja.. I decided to use it for tiles that was why I didn't ask for refund.. After constant calling for a month, he stopped picking calls and up till date, he hasn't delivered them... Calls he doesn't pick and when he picks, he promises to deliver them... My engineer has been trying to track him but he seems to be hiding. What do you expect me to do? 3 Likes |

GloriousGbola: manufacturing is tough and stressful , and has a longer period for recouping your investment than most other businesses , capital outlay is also significantly higher , those are the reasons Nigerians prefer other businesses to it , and why it seems there are lot of foreigners in that sector in general 3 Likes 1 Share |

rmx: That plus policy somersaults and the high-interest rates for financing locally makes manufacturing more attractive to foreigners who can bring in cheaper capital 1 Like |

FEGEITOK: Policy somersault affects everybody , correct about higher interest rates for local players compared to foreigners that get cheaper loans from there home countries , but not an excuse in my own books , u can also get single digit thru cbn and Boi interventions , can also get good rates thru commercial papers if you have prior presence and scale , major reasons are what I earlier stated in my own opinion Forgot to add technical know how , could be a reason too |
