Only a legislative arm that has never heard of what's called impeachment that will go through timewasting lawsuits

Serve the president with impeachment notice and he will adjust sharply

Most Nigerians don't really know how governance works in a democracy.

A president will have to humble himself a lot to get anything done

We saw how Saraki the Senate President boasted how the delayed the national budget for 8 months and even cut some critical infrastructural spending like the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway funding.

Buhari has been complaining back to back about how the NASS keep injecting projects into the budget whenever he sends it for review and approval.

This is the same Buhari/Lawan/Gbaja that are in the same party. Now imagine both executive and legislative not on the same terms or party sef.

I believe in Africans looking within and finding their own system of government that suits them. Democracy leaves room for so many excesses while some of our traditional system of government in the past also had checks and balances in place . We should look at working something out for ourselves .

You know the Oba Emir and Ezes words are final. An Oba can decide that hclaims your wife your property your land or decide to jerk up your tax

Imagine say na person like Oluwo of Iwo be the traditional ruler of Nigeria with Supreme power
He will just appoint you as the royal weed wrapper for the kingdom

A position he now hands over to his son or descendants meaning some people are born to be rulers and some will never aspire to because of the family bloodline they are born into

People of Iwo are kind of thankful that he is not the final say and still answerable to a democratic govt in some ways

Obasanjo saw shege with this impeachment script for Atiku hand . I read how OBJ had to start changing senate presidents just to foil several impeachment attempts on him.

Those things that are meant to be checks and balances in from the west whom we copied the system of government have been weaponized in our own democracy

I'll accept your challenge under one condition. Show me any sensible take from any Obidient since creation of this thread.

You guys craving for intelligent discussions, when majority of you don't do that - even you.

Until after Election, I'll be here to piss you guys off.

Even this evening, the conversation about the debt issue in Nigeria especially with the CBN, I pushed for it with my posts. Am I not an Obidient?
You have been using laugh and questions to respond to this conversation.. Lmaoooo

Cant speak on this as I do not have all the information. Besides, I highly doubt that story, Probably missing some key elements.

My point was looking at the debt service to revenue wasnt putting it in context .

Although the argument could have been that the servicing cost is becoming increasing high and additional debt is still being taken to service the deficit. Worse off is that it is being used on recurrent items and unproductive things like managing subsidy.

That I think is the main issue

Oga there's no need to doubt.. It's all over the Internet. Go and check it and come back

That's despite PDP which is OBJ party having a super majority. OBJ still used military bully tactics to remove like 3 Senate presidents. Okadigbo Wabara and another one

The west sef dey do theirs and it's almost as brutal as ours

Check the current speaker election in the US. Now on the 11th vote and no headway we continue tomorrow

That means they have conducted elections 11 times and no headway yet.

McCarthy needs 218 votes there are 222 people from his party. But about 10-20 of them are hardliners that are asking for unreasonable things else they won't vote for him

Democrats are putting all their 212 votes behind their party man

Republicans like 200 support McCarthy but the extreme hardliners won't vote for him unless he concedes to their crazy demands. I heard one of the hardliners demand that he creates a committee to investigate and defund the FBI and he should be made to lead the committee before he will vote for McCarthy

Trump was impeached twice. With Biden you can be sure that we will have some govt shutdowns when the legislators will refuse to fund govt spending

American politicians are crazy as well but na just because money dey America dey cover many of these things so people are not very dependent on govt

I agree with this only on the basis of finding solutions to different problems that plague us.

Democracy still remain the best form of government to me.

What we need is a different kind of approach to how we propose solutions to our problems. Because a model work in the west does not necessarily means it will work here, we must always factor in our peculiarities when proposing solutions and how it will affect our people. Our people do not think, reason and behave like people in the west so its unreasonable to model our solution the way they do theirs.

That's why most of these copy and paste solution that our leaders do fail because they fail to put into consideration the peculiarities of their people.

While I support this directive, I'm still not clear about how practical this can be considering the fact that we are a federation and a federal agency (NFIU) cannot give directives to subnational entities like state govt or local govt.

How then do they hope to achieve this? Is it not better it should have been a NASS bill sponsored by NFIU?

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Amoto94(m): 6:49am On Jan 06, 2023
On debts what we should be asking is what percentage are they used for; what percentage is owed by states and FG?, how can we repay them or should we have taken them in the first place?,
It is easy to say that FG shouldn't borrow to finance capital projects or salaries, but when you're faced with social upheaval and your revenue drops in the meantime you will know that theory is different from practice.
On QE I believe we shouldn't adopt the policy wholeheartedly without looking at the angle that we don't have enough in our control to regulate the market, this will lead to many capital chasing few commodities and in the long run leading to economic decline.
The best way to move forward is a lean and efficient government but in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country like ours any such attempt to create such government will be looked at with
suspicion and you will be hearing cries of marginalisation from different quarters, this is easier to achieve at the Sub-National level where the stakes are not much higher and homogeneity is largely present.
In 2021 PMB granted Financial Autonomy to the State Assembly and Judiciary and Local Government but the Governors fought against it in unison, and the public went quiet without realising that without financial autonomy to these tiers of government they're more or less like employees hired in the service of the Governors who can punish them by withholding their salaries when they don't do their bidding.

the nigerian problem is and will always be corruption imho

corruption exists everywhere - but in most other places - it ends at 10% or it ends at kickback

but too many nigerians are prepared for a level of corruption that will compromise the project, national security , food security , basic safety.

this replocates in all sectors and so here we are.

the whole kidnapping business is also chop money for soldiers. if soldiers are getting thier cut from kidnappers, why would they be motivated to flush them out?

there are stories of nigerian lawyers compromising international cases that would cost this country billions of dollars

right now everyone simply adds settlement to cost of doing business

There’s practically an industry within banking industry in which very high net worth Nigerians borrow hundred of millions from banks without plan of repayment ; with the aid of bank ED’s and top Execs the loans are discussed at board meetings and classified as bad debts .

The ED’s take their own cut of the initial loan as fee for their future service . That’s how most of the loans AMCON took over came to be . Look at people like Oba Outedeko who worths more than some banks owing some
Banks money and AMCON is publishing his name yet he remains unfazed. Corruption just dey everywhere

Underestimating Atiku? Never! But he needs to start cooking now before it's too late. He's losing his grips in the South.

He's no longer in good term with Seyi Makinde. The only PDP Governor at the moment in South West. In the East, majority seem Obidients already.

Anambra belong to APGA not PDP, thus it can swing in favour of Obi particularly. IMO, though, have an APC Governor, still I expect Peter to win it.

Ikpeazu and Enugu Governor are in solidarity with Wike, apparently, the two states can swing anywhere, but most likely to be won by Peter. Ebonyi, technically an APC state, but I expect Obi to win.

In South South, Atiku will win Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom but likely to lose Edo to Peter. Rivers State gonna swing except Wike finally agrees to work for Atiku. Cross River, another APC State, but I can't predict who's gonna win it.

South West?.... lockdown for Tinubu. All States in South West are on lockdown. North Central..... both APC and PDP gonna share it. Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi gonna be won by APC, while Atiku will win Benue and likely Plateau.

North West?.... KKK are definitely gonna be won by APC. Katsina, Kaduna and Kebbi. Kano possibly will be won by Rabiu Kwankwaso, Atiku will win Sokoto and Jigawa while Zamfara will be delivered for APC.

North East?..... Borno and Yobe are already in the Bag for APC, especially if Shettima is chosen as running mate. Adamawa, Bauchi, Taraba gonna be won by Atiku. Gombe can swing in favour of APC or PDP, likely APC with very small margin.

It's a lie... Did you just admit that the same kano you were using to make noise yesterday will be won by Kwankwaso shocked shocked shocked??

In ur opinion , where do u think the money to do all of these will be sourced ? Because the only thing that don’t require money in the above is cutting government spending ( and even cutting govt spendings May not be something he has full control over. He can only speak for the executive arm of the government and can’t do much as far as legislature and judiciary arms spendings are concerned )

Same place Qatar and Saudi Arabia are currently sourcing the bulk of their income from - oil.

You might not be aware but 83% of oil drilled in Nigeria is unaccounted for. NNPC and the poorly-regulated sector are culpable.

If we could account for even 80% of our oil, our GDP would triple (and quadruple when you add our all-time high from ICT, and the one from trade).
---
Even states lose a whole bulk of money unaccounted for through poor taxation systems and deliberate leaks. No state in Nigeria currently has a central taxation system which is somewhat effective. None.

Something like what New York has would greatly increase state revenues. From state taxation systems of different countries I have been studying, that is.
----
We currently even have enough resources to fund our national ventures.

This right here is the bane of Africa and in particular Nigeria.

There will always be money to embezzle just build the damn project that will ensure national development but no corner all the capital funds and leave a white elephant project to deal with.

Nobody seriously believes that no is chopping from the infrastructure PMB has/is built/building but at least something has actually been done which we can all see.

That's why anytime I remember how OBJ or GEJ blew the opportunity to build any visible lasting infrastructure it makes my blood boil. Nobody is saying don't give contracts to your friends or cronies but bloody do something.
