Kayme:Though not really, but just so you have a picture in your mind... Think of Gold Coast as the "Miami" of Australia. They even have a beach called Miami. Lol. It's busy and lots of tourists but smaller population with lots of beaches and green areas. Surfers paradise is a very popular destination/beach. Yes,there are Nigerians there and it's just under 1 hour from Brisbane by road depending on traffic. |

[quote author=bellong post=118599106] For fairness and equity, you should work with the company that nominated you for at least two years before thinking about looking for another state. The organisation offered to nominate you with the hope that you will work for them. While the 186 doesn't restrict you to the employer, it is only fair if you stay with the employer for two years as a thank you. To answer your questions: 1) Is tasmania a good place to live? Depends on your definition of good place, Tasmania is a nice place. If the organisation is located in Hobart, it is a nice harbour town but becoming very expensive. Relatively very safe too and not too crazy winter. (2)what's the cost of living over there? The cost of living in Tassie is increasing like the other states. Average cost of rent for a 3 bedroom per week is between $380 - $400. You can check www.realestate.com.au for advertised rents. Groceries prices are increasing by the day with the capitalist hiding under rising inflation to jack up prices of food. For an average family of 3 expect to spend between $500-900 monthly on groceries if purchasing in organised departmental stores. (3)Are schools free for children ? Public schools will be free for your kids. However each state has a sort of levy parents pay to support the school. Something about $500/year or less depending on the school. (4)Hope non medical Jobs are easy to come by (for my husband) ? Tasmania is a civil service state. Non-medical jobs are not easy to come by but he will eventually get something for sure. However, he could be lucky and get something good immediately. There is a sizable Nigerian community in Tasmania you can be connected with to assist you in settling down. All the best. Hello Bellong Can you please add me to the African Community group in tasmania ?Thanks 1 Like |

momamorgz: Are you travelling alone or with family? The rental market is extremely competitive right now, you will likely need to book airbnb for few weeks. Use www.realestate.com.au for real estate agents advertised rentals. Facebook market and www.gumtree.com.au for private landlord listed ads. DO NOT PAY ANY DEPOSIT TO ANYONE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE except someone is physically present to assist you with the process. Do you have any specific suburb in mind? 1 Like 2 Shares |

momamorgz: Quarantine staff in Western Australia are ridiculous with what they accept or reject. Whatever you bring, package it like it was bought from a company with labels. Make sure you bring only food items you will not be worried if tossed away. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Good day to you all. Its really an honour to be here. I just recently moved to tasmania, I will be studying at Utas(mechanical engineering). Heard engineering could be really tough out here, also I leveraged on this course because my previous studies in Nigeria was engineering related(OND welding and fabrication engineering). But I do not wish to continue in this path. I was hoping to switch to information technology but I hear it's very competitive for obtaining PR. My friend I'm staying with suggests nursing but I had a 6.0 in writing and 6.5 in listening module of ielts but 7 overall. So I'll have to sit for ielts, if I'm choosing to pursue nursing. I'm confused on what to do. I wish to switch courses to something easier, that would enable obtain a PR faster. |

Hello everyone. I'm new here. Please I want to enquire on 482 visa. I am a baker and considering applying for visa sponsorship jobs as a baker. Please is there anyone with this same skill that has successfully used this route? If yes please can you put me through?is it a requirement to do a skills assessment and PTE before I begin applying for the jobs or the skills assessment and English test will be needed only when I want to transition from TSS to PR? Please I would really appreciate guidance from those experienced in this journey. Thanks a lot |

Hello House, I have been following this thread silently and I decided to post today to ask some questions as I am considering relocating to Australia this year. Please I will appreciate information on the following: - Best route or at most easiest route to migrate to Australia from Nigeria. - I will be glad to know the step by step of any of this route you are projecting for me. - An overview of the cost associated with this. Please I am really really in need of this help from this family and would be waiting for anyone that will be of great and immense help to me. Thanks as I wait to read your responses. |

Re: Living In Australia/life As An Australian Immigrant by Bruxxels: 11:57am On Mar 09, 2023 |
Kayme: The Gold Coast, much like Lagos, is known for its high cost of living. In fact, some of its suburbs have resorted to converting their car garages into additional living spaces due to the exorbitant prices. This has resulted in a unique parking situation where cars are parked along the street, and an unwritten rule exists that one should not park in another person's designated spot, especially in the evening. However, despite the high cost of living in the Gold Coast, one can still opt to live in nearby towns and commute to work or study in the city. |
