Last week Wednesday, I went to the immigration office (state withheld) to renew my passport. I wanted to do it in Abuja but the fee was so high. So I ported to another state. I connected with an officer who's a church member that worked in another state. I paid N40K. I v applied since Nov 16th 2022 but did my capturing on the 4th of January. I arrived at exactly 7:55am despite that the official time on my slip for my capturing was 12:00pm. I did this cos I know Nigeria has huge population and anywhere that registration is taking place is always filled with people if you don't come early. Around 8:05am, we were allowed to go into the secretariat and take out seats in a hall that looked like a university lecture theatre. We were addressed by the PRO of that state and some officers on how we ll be called for capturing based in our number tags. However, what fascinated me where listed below:

* The Handsome & Polite PRO:
That state's NIS PRO was a young man in his late 30s or early 40s. He wore native buba and sokoto dress, nice haircut, smell nice and easy so cute. He spoke sofly, eloquent and maintained eye contact with over 300 of us that are passport applicants. But the man shocked us when he mentioned that the state has only two computers for data capturing. As in a whole state's immigration office/secretariat having just two computers?

* They had two computer systems for capturing 100s of people daily: * Yes. Just two computers o and they said they v told FG severally but that's what was allocated to them. The minister of interior Rauf Aregbesola, how can a state posses just two computers for capturing large number of people. No wonder there's delay in collecting passports.

*Favouritism: The PRO said he ll not allow favouritism but later said if he receives calls from superior officers, he has no choice but to obey. However, considerations ll be given to disabled, kids and aged people. I thought he was very sincere until I left the place around 7:30pm that day cos I wasn't captured earlier due to favouritism and connections. Some people came to capture and they were not on queue. Infact, they just call whoever they know and the officers go outside to bring them in or direct them in. I was given number 106. So I wondered how I wasn't captured in time and a lot of people that were not with us in the morning were going for capturing. Who dem sabi?

* Officers Coming From Rear Door To Call Their Candidates or Clients They Helped To Register: This happened when we were still in the hall, getting our tags. Some officers ll come and pick their clients and take them in directly for their registration, capturing etc. As in the connection was annoying. Shey dem no sabi follow protocols?

* Only Two Toilets That's Looking Average But Smell So Bad: Their toilet lacked deodorants to decontaminate foul odours. I wanted to ease myself but had to hold it till I got back home cos I can't risk toilet infections.
For a state's immigration office to v two toilets is abysmal. I hope it's not so for other states or we v states with poorer facilities. Nigeria I hail thee.

* Peeled & Old Paint On The Building:
The painting of the building look so old and it's like they painted it since 10 years ago. No where in the secretariat or office look new. Not even their furniture.

In conclusion, the immigration need to do a check on all states that has poor or inadequate facilities and help them to refurbish them. Our profile as a nation is too big for us to v airports with poor facilities and now immigration offices with poor facilities.

I did legal change of name and wanted a new passport. Called the contact at NIS Abuja, wired him the info and 200k. He gave me appointment for capturing. When I arrived, he took me straight to the spot and, though someone else was being captured, I waited in a well air-conditioned room for no more than 5-7mins. I didn't even jam face with all the other citizens waiting and sweating in the general waiting room. Captured afterward and still made it back in time to the restaurant where I had ordered lunch and my food was served just as I arrived.
