erico2k2:so you made use of 6inches blocks for a building this tall, you aren't concerned about the slenderness ratio . That's an un-calculated risk just pray the soil properties remains unchanged for a long time. |

erico2k2: I thought it's impossible before now because of load bearing, it's risky though |

visaclick: What do say about those houses in Lagos that they do the formwork first, both downstairs and upstairs without any blocks, later they would use any size blocks to do the partitioning. What weight bearing support do the blocks provide in that case? Blocks contribute very negligible weight bearing effect in a duplex. The formwork does. 4 Likes |

sonnie10:that case is different, the columns are 225mm in size and the blocks are non-load bearing but in case where the blocks bears most of the weights in residential buildings done on budget and mostly non-engineered it's very wrong to use 6inch blocks. You are viewing with your eyes and think of the weight coming downwards however in Structural point of view we are also considering the wind loads, ground movements, active and passive forces on the foundation, the granular materials surrounding the building substructure. Those actions threaten a building stability more. 4 Likes |

visaclick:would U build a house where block bears the weight? We had this topic discussed here in full details by Civil Engineers here apyider/abdi Brabus etc back in 2015.Bricks as relevant to strength of ur house ais almost irrelevant as U can just use glass. 1 Like |

erico2k2:yea a storey building can still be built with walls bearing some weight eg a litel sitting directly on the wall, saves cost. |

erico2k2: Sir, for standard practice 9 inches hollow for ground floor and 6 inches hollow for up floor. You can do 9 inches hollow for all external walls for the ground floor and 6 inches hollow for the internal walls on the ground floor. |

@topsy and @twinskenny and to anyother with valuable information.... Please which product (s) are the best and durable surge protector for a TV (83inch smart) and two 1hp ACs all on one big roo.? Please help with pictures and links if possible. Thanks |

You are very correct with the last statement. Many hand marks already on my wall barely 3 months after matte painting. And cant be cleaned. Will consider repainting with satin in high traffic areas soon. KolaShangOne: 1 Like |

ceelog:Probably premium emulsion sold as matte. I see some contractors post finished pictures and I don't really notice the dull sheen or flatness to suggest matte finish despite professing superiority of some brands. In the actual sense, matted means dulling sheen and a paint is either matted or glossy/has sheen according to the normal standard. But you won't see a foreign emulsion full of powder and thickness like ours here, it would be matted with dull sheen suggesting very high binder to withstand mild cleaning. You should be able to wipe the stains with foam and soapy water. |

ceelog: My own TV manual warned me not to use any voltage regulator. Please be very sure of what you are buying in the name of surge protector or for the purpose of voltage regulation to avoid stories that touch. Finally ensure that you are buying a premium product and not a knockoff |

ceelog: Imho, just buy a ups. If it is a genuine late model LG TV, they are rugged. I have had a 73 inch for three years now. The ups battery is misbehaving but it is still going strong FEGEITOK: This here. As a naija matter. |

GloriousGbola: Mine is connected directly to my inverter and after the warning I couldn't get myself to connect it to any other voltage regulator Ceelog and GloriousGbola have updated the post. See below: Do You Need a Voltage Stabilizer for TVs? No, you don’t need a voltage stabilizer for your flat-screen smart TV as they incorporate SMPS (switched mode power supply) and have an operating voltage range wide enough to accommodate almost all types of voltage fluctuations. But can you have one just in case? Yes, you can. Even if it’s unnecessary, it will not harm your TV. Modern LED-LCD and OLED TVs come with SMPS. The electronic power supply comes with native voltage regulation and current-limiting capabilities. Besides televisions, SMPS are found in DC motor drives, power amplifiers, PCs, and every other electrical device that needs a highly efficient power supply. SMPS is a vast topic. To learn more about SMPS, watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK5WLMFSGnw a UPS ensures an “uninterrupted power supply.” It doesn’t regulate voltage per se. If your area is prone to power outages, a UPS will help. But if your region experiences frequent voltage fluctuations, you’ll need an AVR. Credits: pointers licker dot com My further research which I have not posted is to the effect that you need surge protectors more than you need automatic voltage regulators for your smart TV. So get yourself a high quality surge protector instead. Better still, install a surge protector capable of protecting your entire home instead of one surge protector per device. This is the ultimate solution |
