That is a lie

General Ironsi completely took away the autonomy of the Regions with Decree 34 of 1966

Before then the Western Region had its own busy UK embassy on great portland Street in London which had been established by Awolowo and which had to be closed down immediately after Ironsi's Decree 34 and the building was later taken over by the Federal Govt

https://guardian.ng/opinion/history-and-the-future-of-decree-34-of-1966

Idiotic nonsense capable only of Nigerians. The so-called Decree 34 was for civil service. Ironsi could have taken the autonomies of the regions yet appointed regional governors. Gowon and his follow putschists of July 29. 1966 coup ran into the headwind presented by such regional autonomy when the regional governor of eastern region refused to recognize him as the C-in-C of armed forces of Nigeria. Till this day, the federal civil service established by the so-called Decree 34 is being used. The autonomy of the regional government was dismissed by Decree which established the 12 states in Nigeria.

Ojukwu was not powerless hence July 29, 1966, coup was not successful. Gowon could not even venture out of Lagos to visit Benin City. If not for betrayal artists and backstabbers such as your forbearers, southern Nigeria would have been semi-paradise. The fools such as Ejoor, Adebayo and entire Yoruba and silly minorities from the southern Nigeria joined forces with Jihadists from northern region of Nigeria. I remembered deluded Akenzua attached to the ass of Gowon hoping Gowon will elevate a third-class permanent secretary to position of a minister. Akenzua supported Action Group when certain figures such as Osagie, Osadebe, Utomi, Ekwuasi and Okotie-Eboh fought for the creation of Midwestern region. The legacy of today's Nigeria is the blueprint of Gowon and the goons supported him period.

the legacy of today's Nigeria started with the Unification decree of Ironsi...

You are correct by moronic default. Unification decree centered on the uniform civil service in Nigeria which gave Nigeria grade of levels in today 's civil service. The Decree 34 has nothing to do with unitary system of government. The regional government ended in Nigeria when Gowon created the 12 states with administrators instead of governors.

The problem with you guys is that you don't listen to others. You only listen to your own thoughts and believe every other person must agree to your own thoughts and needs.

It was not only Gowon that quarrelled with the un(signed) aburi accord, southern minorities including those of the Eastern Nigeria that you guys intended to incorporate into your biafra were vehemently against the accord. Furthermore some prominent military officers were also against the accord. It would have been unfair for only igbos and a few igbo related tribes through blackmail and threats of war on Nigeria, to rail road Nigeria unconstitutionally into a loose confederation. Gowon only initially succumbed to the blackmail but on getting back to Nigeria had to backpedal due to the strength of the opposition. I am grateful you guys have not started calling me names like fulani slave, traitor and other unsavory insults.

I don't think Akenzua suggested any structure. All he pointed out was that a loose confederation is the same thing as succession. And the minorities in Eastern Nigeria along with other Regions were not prepared for secession at that time.

I think we should go back to the regional and parliamentary system bequeathed to us by the Britisht that was truncated by the Nzeogwu led coup. It allowed each region to spend its own resources to develop its region. That was the period of the fastest development in Nigeria.
So you still believe that Nigeria with any sort of structure will survive? As a matter of possibility, do you think you can get back regionalism under a parliamentary system?

In furtherance of the autonomy granted to eastern region, Ojukwu refused to recognize Gowon as Head of State of Nigeria. If regional autonomy was vacated by the so-called Decree 34, would Ojukwu block Gowon as head of state and C-in-C of Nigeria? Most Nigerians seem to be brainless due to tribal pressure.

unification decree gave power to the federal government over the regions..

the regions could no longer use their income and revenue without the authorization of the head of state.

the regions could no longer carry out development and infrastructural projects without the authorization of the head of state.

the regions could no longer employ people without the authorization of the head of state.

e.t.c.

unification decree weakened the regions..

Unification decree:
2. 1d for the purpose of administration each group of provinces shall subject to the authority of the Head of the National Military Government, be under the general direction and control of a Military Governor appointed by the Head of the National Military Government;

3. 1. As from the appointed day all offices in the service of the Republic in a civil capacity shall be offices in a single service to be known as the National Public Service; and accordingly all persons who immediately before that day are members of the public service of the Federation or of the public service of a Region shall on that day become members of the National Public Service:
3. 2. As from the appointed day—
a. the Public Service Commission established under section 146 of the Constitution of the Republic shall be known as the National Public Service Commission, and references in that section and elsewhere to the Public Service Commission of the Federation shall be amended accordingly;

4.1 Subject to the provisions of this section, power to appoint persons to hold or act in offices in the National Public Service (including power to make appointments on promotion and to confirm appointments) and to dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in such offices shall, as from the appointed day, vest in the National Public Service Commission.

Having tribal sentiments which should never translate to taking arms against another tribe. Nzeogwu expressed his hatred for the north and SW by killing their leaders. Making a.statue of him is endorsing killing other people for saying their minds.

Nigeria just have to survive, else it will spell disastrous consequences on all of us. Nigeria is like an arrangee marriage of strange bedfellows. The marriage had been very tumultuous and painful, sometimes abusive. But, it have produced many children and numerous grand children. The family fortune has been so interwoven and intertwined and it is very difficult determining who owns what and the contributions of each member of the family. Such a divorce though possible would be extremely difficult and tumultuous. It cannot be achieved by fiat, or by threats and violence. It can only be achieved through the civil and political process.

I think a new political structure akin to parliamentary system can be achieved. It will take sincerity on the part of the political class. Whether igbo, fulani, yoruba or igala. The political class is just too insincere and manipulative. They are the ones that don't want Nigeria to unite, else yet lose their relevance.

Is it the accord that was already signed at Aburi that you're Gowon was dissuaded to sign? Is your reasoning alright? Philip Asiodu and Prince Akenzua only encouraged Gowon not to honour what he had signed in the presence of dignitaries including the then we'll respected Ghanaian Head of State. The responsibility still resided on the Military man called Yakubu Gowon. He has a copy of that agreement to till date. Thank God he's still alive. You can press him to make it open for this generation to see if he wants his soul to rest in peace. However, if you prefer the age old lies to continue, then let is continue. We shall see where it will lead us to.
Enjoy the current Nigeria of Philip Asiodu, Prince Akenzua and Yakubu Gowon's making.
You're not being fair, your opinions about Aburi Accord is logically incorrect.

The abolishment of the 4 regions was only the final burial to true federalism and resource control earlier enjoy by Nigerians. Ironsi has already killed the system by his decree.

So anyone telling you that Ironsi abolished the 4 Regions should explain that magic to you
