while I doubt the authenticity of the story. we do have a porous boarder system. he could sneak in through one of our land borders. the dss do not have to arrest him before they can file charges if they have any evidence against him. I do not understand the reason behind the media trial

Then, how can you arrest a suspect without a warrant? In this case, I read that a judge denied the SSS's application for a warrant. Oops! I forgot we are talking about Nigeria, a very lawless country. But all the same, the story seems implausible!
