Tingotoe:Majority of the armed forces was northerners. So would we call it a northern coup? The point I am making is, should we begin to ascribe everything done by individuals to an entire tribe? For example, should we say that because Buhari is an evil leader, every Fulani man is guilty of his misrule? |

Only one coup out of eight is attached to an ethnic group and serves as a vehicle of hate against them to the tune of carrying out a genocide against them. gidgiddy:You know the problem with majority of Igbos? Majority of you have been mentally battered to a fault that you are easily agitated, feel so inferior and so scared ... that you are always quick to assume that everyone is out to attack your tribe. This can be likened to the tradition of North Korea and why they are in the bondage they are. I literally just explained why the Igbo coup which was the First coup is so important than other coups that followed but you kept going in circles . What's Nigeria's coup got to do with how other Africans see their coup. Are you living in other countries to know what coup was most traumatizing to them? 3 Likes |

raumdeuter: The law that prescribed the death penalty for coup plotters/plotting was enacted several years after the January 15 coup! Actually, it was Obasanjo that enacted the decrees and backtracked them in other to have enough constitutional ground to murder most middle belt officers in the Army accused of masterminding the coup against his boss Murtala. There was no such laws in Nigeria in the 60s! Capital punishment for coup plotting became the law in Nigeria AFTER January 15 and NOT before January 15! Infact, as heinous as coup plotting and violent overthrows of governments were across the developing world, it was not a crime punishable with death penalty in most of these countries around this period. Jerry Rawlings was arrested for coup plotting and was in jail before he worked with loyal troops to mount a second coup. Hugo Chavez was arrested and given a mere sentence for a previous involvement in a coup plot in Venezuela. He would regroup after that to unleash a second coup and take over power. Btw, for whatever it's worth, Oladipo Diya and Gen Adisa them, were in Abachas gulag for months and were not executed as some of you would have wanted if they were Igbos, irrespective of the fact that they were all caught with their tribal hands in the cookie jar as they were plotting to hyjack power and kill their principal, Gen Sani Abacha! Abacha in his discretion, took the decision not to carry out the brutal Tribunal judgements because of the political tension across the country then. What if Gen Ironsi was thinking in like manners? After all, it was the same Ironsi THAT SQUASHED THE COUP in the first place. |

Superwave16320:We are going to turn around the power sector. Nigeria today generates about 5,000 megawatts for 200 million people and South Africa, the second biggest in terms of economy on the continent, 60 million people, generates over 40,000 megawatts, yet, they have declared an emergency in the power sector. “If a country with 60 million population generating over 40,000MW is declaring emergency on power, what do you think somebody with 200 million people generating between 5,000MW and 6,000MW will do? I am going to declare war on power and I will solve it. Anybody who stands on the way, so be it.” PETER OBI. LONDON, 2023 |
Re: Blame The Igbo's For 1966 Coup. Who Do We Blame For 1983? by owobokiri(m): 10:51am On Jan 17, 2023 |
omonnakoda: The revolutionary coup was planned and prosecuted to eliminate political vermins responsible for dashing the hope of many Nigerians after independence. Lots of Nigerians couldn't understand why the Sarduana and Akintola were hellbent on setting the country on fire the same way Buhari and Tinubu are desperate to burn down Nigeria! Simple! It was not a coup contracted to "kill ibibio leaders and leave Anang leaders" as you would wishfully like to think. It was a REVOLUTION against the neocolonial proxies masquerading as Nigerian patriots within the political scene then. If most of the corrupt victims come from your neighborhood, take a second look at your culture! It was not Nnamdi Azikiwe that started "Operation Wetie" in the Western region, a wayward Akintola did! Neither was it Michael Okpara or Dr Akanu Ibiam that went behind with the British to give Europeans more employment opportunities in Northern Nigeria than to fellow Nigerians, irrespective of the qualifications, the Sarduana did so! The northernization of the Nigerian Army which triggered Nzeogwu is the sole reason why you have been ruled by the likes of Abacha, Buhari and Babangida! It wasn't the easterners that tried to northernize the Army! Sarduana, Balewa and Ribadu did. So whenever your tribal guts pushes you to complain about the so called "killings of the leaders of other ethnic groups", do remember that one miserable Obafemi Awolowo was tucked away in a dingy Calabar prison by the same Sarduana/Akintola/balewa combo. He was there on the night of the January 15 coup! If the elimination of the leaders of other ethnic groups was the primary motive behind the coup, the coupist who easily took control of the East, would have gone there to slaughter him! Why didn't the do that? 1 Like 2 Shares |

BATified2023:You mean the Fulani coup no one died ok. But my question is, was 1983 a Northern coup? Also do we blame the many failures of the Buhari government on the Fulani people? Thousands of people die from bad government each day. Do we blame their deaths on the Fulani tribe? Would you also blame Awolowo's treason on the Yoruba people? Would you blame the people that were killed and women raped in Odi under Obasanjo's command on the Yoruba people? |
