Cherish233: When you use you cards in nigeria there are charges paid to the card issuers and exchange networks like visa and Mastercard. Even if your account or card charges are in naira, the banks settle them in dollars. CBN is saying your cards will now be Afrigo for local transactions and still keep the visa etc for your domicilliary dollar account for international transactions. Also there will be no more charges on your newly issued Afrigo cards on your naira accounts. 9 Likes |

somebody please explain the turenci. does this mean visacards and Mastercards will be discarded for domestic transactions? Rightfully so, those cards are useless for foreign transactions anyway. you can't use any Naira domesticated Visa or Mastercard to pay for any foreign transactions neither can you use them to withdraw from any ATM outside naija, so why are we using them? 2 Likes |

God1000: if I were the CBN governor, the deadLine would be 2-weeks after the new naira note's introduction. Anybody wey no fit change him money, make e loose am. I would equally introduce strict rules that would either get you arrested for money laundering or make you loose your money. Issue is, the system is still corrupt hence person wey loose 2-trailer load of Old Naira Notes could earn another 4-trailer Load of New Naira Notes. mtcheeeew 1 Like |

princeade86: Enough time to do what? So if we all had deposited our old Naira notes into our bank accounts since December 16th 2022, what will we all have been transacting with since then? People should start seeing not just looking nah!!! And please don't start telling me rubbish of cashless society ooo, because even in the cashless more developed countries we are trying to copy, they still use cash. I still withdrew 900 Canadian dollars cash from an ATM at once (one single withdrawal) to pay late rent because it will take some days for my cheque to clear if I had paid with cheque. Now calculate 900 Canadian dollars in cash to Naira and compare it to what you can collect on Nigerian ATM. Our government will just always use every excuse to mask their incompetence. Cashless economy is by choice and for convenience, not because a country's CBN is unable to print and circulate quality notes. 4 Likes |

It is obvious that with each new policy, CBN governor Emefiele is an enemy of this country. Nigerians should be vigilant and question every new monetary policy introduced by this evil government. There is a deliberate effort by CBN to destroy cash based monetary system in favour of digital payment to further their tyrannical agenda. It is sad that we have no one left in government or the national assembly to reign in on the executive arm and forestall the gradual destruction of our country. Emefiele has gone rogue, intoxicated with power as he dish out policies with out any form of accountability or oversight. I just read that the house of reps is threatening to arrest him and other bank officials over their refusal to honor screening invitation see https://www.channelstv.com/2023/01/26/naira-notes-reps-threaten-to-issue-arrest-warrant-on-emefiele/ Until Nigerians unit and take back this country from evil leaders, it appears nothing will change for the better. See my recent post on why CBN cashless policy is evil here https://www.nairaland.com/7513315/why-cbn-enaira-cashless-policy 1 Like |

What he simply mean is that no more MasterCard or Visa naira cards. All cards for naira transaction will be with the CBN card. If you need Master or Visa card, Go and get the USD denominated one. 3 Likes |

Ambber: Those who transact internationally will have both Afrigo and either of Mastercard or Verve. But for those transacting locally, within Nigeria only, there's no need for them to have Mastercard or Verve. They will need only Afrigo card. |

A leopard can not change it's skin, Emefiele is not on your side. He is actually destroying our economy and monetary system with each new policy. What good can come out of this evil government? Election is in few weeks time and you think Emefiele who with his bad policies took the naira from N200 to N800 to $1 will magically boost the value of the naira. ehissi: |

This can not be in the interest of Nigeria. The globalist are trying to cage Nigeria and also to defeat the merit of competition. Don't let the big grammar fool you. Is simply saying we are all to be using one card. Ina nutshell CBN card. What they couldn't achieve thru e-naira and closure of crypto, the want to achieve thru atm card. @bebigiby |
