The US and Germany might be at war with Russia, but that is news to Croatia, said Zoran Milanovic.

Commenting on the German foreign minister’s declaration that Europe is “fighting a war against Russia,” Croatian President Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday that this was news to him, and wished Berlin better luck than in WWII.

Croatia “should in no way help” Ukraine militarily, Milanovic said while visiting the port city of Split. “Do you want us to enter the war?”

Framing the Ukraine conflict as one between Washington and Moscow, he reminded reporters that he was criticized for merely echoing the words of Kiev’s defense minister, about the current conflict being a “proxy war” between NATO and Russia.

“Now the German foreign minister says we must be united, because I quote, we are at war with Russia. I didn’t know that,” Milanovic said. “Maybe Germany is at war with Russia, but then, good luck, maybe this time it turns out better than 70-odd years ago.”

The Croatian president was baffled to hear such a claim from the leader of the German Greens, which he said used to be a pacifist party equally against the US and the USSR, and not from Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“If we are at war with Russia, then let’s see what we need to do. But we won’t ask Germany for its opinion,” Milanovic added. “Let them figure out who is the actual chancellor over there. I’ve been in politics for a long time, and our country has been through a lot, but I’ve never seen this kind of madness before.”

When it comes to tanks, “Russian or American, they burn just the same,” Milanovic said, noting that deliveries of armor to Ukraine – announced by the US and Germany this week – will only prolong the fighting.

“Those tanks may burn, or they may reach Crimea, but Croatia will have nothing to do with it,” he insisted. The social-democrat president has frequently clashed with the nationalist parliamentary majority over Croatia’s Ukraine policy. Just last month, Milanovic opposed Zagreb’s participation in the EU program to train Ukrainian troops, saying it clashed with Croatia’s constitution.

Unless the US and Russia are holding some kind of talks, the world is “slowly sliding into World War Three,” Milanovic added. “Some people think it has already begun, but I have my reservations.”

US Condemns South Africa’s Decision To Join Drills With Russia And China
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre did not say what consequences African governments that work with Russia’s Wagner private military company may face in the wake of Washington’s decision to designate it as a transnational criminal organization. The United States has concerns about a decision by South Africa to join Russia and China in their military drills, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday. "The United States has concerns about any country, as we've said before, exercising with Russia, while Russia wages a brutal war against Ukraine. <...> We've been consistent on this. Of course, every participating country will make their own decision. But again, we've said this before, we do have concerns," the White House press secretary said. She refused to say whether Washington had made this position clear to Pretoria, where Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited on Monday. "I don't have any conversations to read out, but we've been very-very consistent [on this issue]," Jean-Pierre said. She did not say what consequences African governments that work with Russia’s Wagner private military company may face in the wake of Washington’s decision to designate it as a transnational criminal organization. Nor did Jean-Pierre comment on whether US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen might be talking about this during her African tour. "I will leave any conversation that Secretary Yellen has had with leaders to her and to her office to speak to," the White House press secretary said.

Funny to watch that even USA senators are looking for a way to remove some sanctions on Russia senators

"Washington is ready to ease sanctions against Moscow for the sake of serious negotiations on Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian troops from there and return territory" - Victoria Nuland

She is silent about her coup and what led to here... grin grin grin grin

The sanctions are ineffective, they seem to be out of touch with reality.
That's not negotiation or a serious attempt at resolving the conflict....it's a manifestation of stupidity and ignorance (Due to delusion, it appears they concluded thier sanctions generated the intended effects).

Even Iran, North Korea and others that have been under years of sanctions still fare better than some African countries.

It's extremely difficult to take any statement from this current US govt seriously.
They need a capable president (not a mega war criminal like Biden) and competent officials for a start.

At the bolded. That's just as plain as any language could be. It's Olaf on its own.

I keep telling the simpletons here who envisaged and masturbate on the warp belief that a 30-nation Bloc would take care of Russia when actual war sparks. What many of these NATO fans don't know is that once the first shot gets fired between NATO and Russia, more than half of those nations would instantly declare their NEUTRALITY because no one wants to be a target for hypersonic nukes from different directions. Even some of the bigger nations in nato such as France, Turkey and Italy will never go to war with Russia. It's then many of these simpletons on Nairaland will realise that article 5 of NATO only exist against third-world nations.

Well, dreaming is free. So they can keep on dreaming.

I just dey laugh.... cool

The Russians have absorbed the US and NATO strongest blows which are the sanctions, and from the look of things the Russians are getting more stronger while the sanctions has been proven to be ineffective.

No European country wants to go to war with Russia, in Russian military history all the countries that have tried has failed. Sweden tried and the result was a crushing defeat, the French under Napoleon also tried but they failed woefully, same thing happened to the Ottoman Turks, then Finland also tried and paid for it.

In world war two a combination of Germany, Italy, Romania decided to wage war against Russia and the outcome was catastrophic. The Europeans know their history very well and have learned from past mistakes.

Russia Rolls Out Combat Robot To 'detect And destroy' Tanks

On Wednesday, Washington and Berlin announced they were ready to provide Kiev with M1 Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks in the coming months. The decisions came as Russia continues its special military operation in Ukraine.

A strike version of the Russian-made Marker robot will be capable of hitting the German and US-made main battle tanks, due to be delivered to Ukraine, Dmitry Rogozin, former director general of the Russian federal space agency Roscosmos, has told Sputnik.
He explained that the robot’s control system features an electronic catalog with images of targets in the visible and infrared ranges, which helps the Marker automatically detect the enemy’s military hardware.

"For example, as soon as deliveries of the Abrams and Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian troops begin, the Marker will be fitted with an appropriate electronic image to detect and destroy the US and German tanks with anti-tank guided missiles,” Rogozin said.

He pointed out that the Marker can also prioritize the enemy’s targets when on the front.
The ex-Roscosmos chief said that in February, four Marker robots will be delivered to the Donbass region(Russia), where they are expected to enter service shortly after going through a number of tests.

Rogozin spoke after German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced Berlin’s decision to send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, something that was followed by US President Joe Biden saying that Washington will deliver 31 Abrams tanks to Kiev.
The Russian Embassy in Germany warned that “this extremely dangerous decision [by Berlin] shifts the Ukrainian conflict to a new level of standoff.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov for his part told reporters that arms supplies to Ukraine by Western countries testify to their direct and growing involvement in the conflict.

"There are constant statements from European capitals and from Washington that the sending of various weapons systems, including tanks, to Ukraine in no way means the involvement of these countries or the alliance in the hostilities that are taking place in Ukraine. We categorically disagree with this," Peskov added.

Moscow has repeatedly warned that the US and its allies sending military aid to Kiev adds to prolonging the Ukrainian conflict. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries “play with fire" by supplying weapons to Kiev, and that any convoy of arms for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russian forces.

The Leopards’ first combat experience, and battlefield losses, occurred during the US-led war in Afghanistan. In the course of fighting against the Taliban,* three Canadian and six Danish Leopard 2s were irretrievably lost, with another 15 Canadian Leopards disabled but repaired.
The US led coalition was eventually defeated in Afghanistan in 2021 after about 20 years of fighting.
The Taliban emerged as the victors and sacked the US coalition and it's cronies.

Leopard 2A4 tanks were deployed to northern Syria in 2016 and 2018 for combat missions.
A dozen or more of them were knocked out by IEDs, suicide car bombs, or anti-tank guided missiles.

The M1 Abrams’ debut was during Operation Desert Storm, the US war with Iraq in 1990 and 1991, that aimed to drive the Iraqi army out of Kuwait. Even though the tank performed relatively successfully at the time, several years later, US tank battalions sustained losses in urban combat during Washington's invasion of Iraq. Reportedly, over 80 Abrams had been destroyed by then and 530 more had been forced back to the US for extensive repairs.

When these tanks arrive in Ukraine, a lot of [Russia's] anti-tank weapons, ground-based, stationary, mobile, air-based, various anti-tank systems will be waiting for them.
