You can't really abolish Agberoism in Lagos, infact in the SW region. It's seen as a profession over there.

I live in Ogun, they're everywhere including hanging out at my favourite restaurant. You come out of the restaurant and you're already surrounded by more than 5 able young men begin for alms.

To Mr GVR
My question is simple and straightforward: I would like to know more about your identity. Who are you? Who are your parents? What Yoruba clan do you belong to? It is important to note that Eko (Lagos State) is a Yoruba state located in the south-west of Nigeria. We are seeking someone who is indigenous and native to Yorubaland. We are looking for someone who will protect, guide, uplift, and promote the Yoruba culture, traditions, heritage, and way of life. We do not want someone who is simply seeking to be a governor to drive the agenda of no man's land in Yorubaland. Thank you for your time.

We have agberos everywhere in Nigeria, even in the useless south east they are fully operating there. It is those ibos that are exaggerating the agbero situation in lagos. They use to be called area boys but they where replaced with agberos because of the hate and bitterness towards MC oluomo and lagos transport union. I have encounter them couple of times, I just give them money and case closed. It is better to see them stealing and robbing people. Lack of jobs in the society in promoting it and that as nothing to do with lagos state.

Dear GRV,
How do you intend to manage the menace of agberos terrorising commercial drivers and passengers? How will you handle the unemployment among the youths, rising cost of medical bills in government hospitals? Will there be easy access to loan or grant for SMES? As incoming governor what do you think that make you qualify for this position and what difference will your government makes that will be totally difference from the past governors?

I don't support anyone extorting anyone. I'm from Lagos and I have also experienced similar issues in the past. It's not just people from afar.
Lagos has always been like this even before Tinubu got into politics, anyone who told you otherwise is lying.
Google Adebayo Success and read about him during Shagari and NPN politics. I'm old enough to remember him very well.
Also, are you telling me that you don't have agbero in the SE? Because I know for a fact that you do have lots of agbero but you seem only concerned about Lagos agberos.
Buying land in Africa and Nigeria in particular has always been issue not just in the SW but also in the SE. This is due to poor record keeping and the fact that we pass properties from generation to generation without good record keeping.
I recently bought a land in my own town in Lagos State, after paying, some more families came out to lay claim to the land. This is in my own small town, not Lagos city with agebros. These are families that know my family from way back.
I had to settle them again just to get them off my back.

Lagos is like NY city, wild, crazy and fast pace. In NY city, some shop owners till today still have to pay some people to be able to own or sell in their shops. It's illegal but still happens. Go to any major city around the world and I bet that you will find similar stories in some form or another. Chinese cities, Japanese and other Asians have similar situations.
Pls google paying thugs in Tokyo and read about "years-long practice: paying “protection” money to yakuza gangsters".
This is in Tokyo, probably the safest city in the whole world.
so theoney agbero here extort in lagos is for protection abi and if don't pay they will come and burgle ur shop at night, why did u people like copying bad things not good one,if po win that ticket just one week military order they will wipe out all of them

I will advice GRVLagos not to unveil his plans to end agberos in Lagos because doing that will jeopardize his chances at the poll because majority of Lagos indigenes or let me say, Southwest indigenes believe otherwise, as they argue that it is only Igbos that are crying about agberos whereas Igbos have agberos in Onitsha, Aba, etc, so to the Lagos/Yoruba indigenes, GRVLagos agreeing to end agberos mean he only wants to please Igbos which they hate with passion

In Onitsha, Aba and other Igbo towns, Agberos operate in the various motor parks, not in the streets and bus stops as obtained in Lagos.

Thank you Seun and GRVLagos for this opportunity. I've studied GRV and although I assume he won't win, I am committed to voting him along side PO in this election. As one who is close to people in power, it is important that you continue to engage with the masses. Asides Budget inflation and non-transparency in Lagos state contracts, I feel Sanwo Olu connected with the people. Agbero have become a serious problem in Lagos and I think using two years to train them is a good thing. But before then, Agbero cannot be collecting money for people who are moving into some neighborhood or out of it. It doesn't make sense. If you pack into some areas in Ajah, Agbero will block the major road until the vehicle carrying your items settle them. These guys act as if they are backed by some law and an example needs to be set with them. I hope you can get this message to your friends in power

Good question, solving the issues of agberos in Lagos can be solved by providing most of them alternative paths of living, it will be a priority alongside tackling youth unemployment in general, retraining them and giving them other paths by providing them with artisanship, vocational training, training them to be state and communal police(which will have accountability measures to prevent abuse of power).
More on youth unemployment, my administration will focus on giving them skills that provide good paths to employability, through digital skills training, vocational, artisan training, entrepreneurial and business training and loans, as well as grants to start businesses, so yes loans and grants for SMEs will be made available.
Healthcare is in a crisis state in this country, first we need to train new staff to help put our healthcare workers, improve their pay and quality of life and also provide more medical facilities for all to use, my government will field some of the costs to drive down the cost of medical services for the common man in Lagos.
What makes me qualified is that I am an architect trained in estate development and urban renewal, Lagos is a town being choked by traffic and poor town planning, zoning, i have the understanding and knowledge on how to deploy upgrading and repairs of systems be it transport, estate development , building zoning and more. A key part of my administration will be urban renewal and development , moving away concentration of trade commerce and tourism from the hubs in ikeja, the island and bringing back areas like badagary into the development fold and making them hubs too. My governorship will be a strong departure from the 24 years of apc, it will be centered on the interests of the masses not that of just one man, his family and cronies, a model of leadership and impact will be like that of Lateef Jakande who achieved massive impact on Lagos that many of us are enjoying till today, improving housing, education and healthcare for all.

Promoting culture without simultaneous infrastructural development and visionary leadership is tantamount to no leadership.

Stop living in the stone age simply because you want to emphasize culture that hasn't really done any good development wise.

Please go through the thread before asking questions, most of us here as asking repeat questions.
Anyways, Good Evening @GRVLagos
Do you feel like there’s a need for the proposed Lekki International Airport apart from saving the people of Lekki time in getting to the MMIA?
I feel that not only is it a “waste” of public funds, but a distraction by the current leadership in Lagos in order to brainwash citizens. There isn’t enough air traffic coming to Lagos to justify the need of a second airport. Even if it’s converted to a majorly cargo airport, those funds are better off invested in modernising the old terminal of MMIA.
My fear is that hundreds of millions of dollars might go into a project that’ll be abandoned or under-utilised like most of the “international” airports being built in different parts of the country today. We aren’t focusing on the main problems those funds can solve, but on essentially luxury projects that only a tiny percentage of the population can enjoy.
My main question is, will you take the time, if elected as governor of Lagos state, to carefully review the ongoing and future planned projects in Lagos in order to know where funds can be more appropriately utilised for the benefit of the majority of Lagosians?

Even GRV Gbadebo grandfather cannot stop Iyaloja in Lagos because his ancestors did not create it.

You should rather ask Gbadebo when he will terminate Obi of Onitsha title so as to stop Ibo people from escaping the SE to Lagos due to the thievery of Obi of Onitsha on the Ibo commonwealth. This escaping and overcrowding is exerting pressure on Lagos infrastructure.

And ask him if he is able to terminate Iyaloja in Lagos, can he terminate it across the remaining SW states judging from the fact that it is part of the Yoruba tradition.
Classic urchin reaction...

The Iyaloja title is not hereditary...

When Peter Obi is sworn in, we shall review how Tinubu's daughter emerged as the Iyaloja...

You can foam in the mouth from dawn to dusk but objectivity and fairness will prevail...

Funny thread. Just here to read comments. On Election Day, GVR will not even win his ward. Sanwoolu’s second term is signed, sealed and delivered. Best of luck though.
Sanwo-Olu second is delivered according to chief urchin of nairaland but the evidence all over Lagos is saying otherwise...

If Sanwo-Olu is sure of winning, why is he and the entirety of APC in the state in unconscionable panic mode?

Tens if not hundreds of millions of naira are being spent every week to force-feed the residents of the state with all manners of campaign posters and propaganda...

It is so rife that it elicits some kind of pity for APC in the state...

The whole thing is looking like try as the party do in the state, the Intel they are getting keeping looking damning...
