hmmmm another issue of client refusing to pay professionals for work done. Is this now the new trend on property section? To come here and use people's expertise and run away ? I am sure no one will come into the issue since it is not a client complaint.

Please I have a small confusion on my hands that I need explanation on.
I was at Dei Dei building material market in Abuja today to buy marble slab for kitchen cabinet. Attached is the Tiler's calculation.

1st Place I went is a shop I bought all my tiles and several other things in the past. They said they sell per sheet and each sheet is N35,000 and a sheet is about 4.5 sqm. So I can buy 2 sheets which will be N70,000.

The 2nd place I went got me confused as they said their own is N20,000 per sqm meaning my total will be N140,000. This was the same category of Nigerian marble. I tried to get clarification and asked how many sqm is in a sheet and he also said 4.5. I asked for price of sheet and he still said 20k. Later in trying to calculate, I got really confused and left.

Can anyone clarify which of them was correct and how exactly is marble sold, per sheet or per sqm and what's the avg price of Nigerian type. From the attachment, my requirement is 6.767 sqm, let's say ~ 7 sqm.

The quality might be different. Compare the thickness for both very well, because some could be really thin.
But if they are the same, why worry? Just get it from the better deal store.
Don’t forget to carry it right away.

From what I could see, the thinness was same. But will still confirm from both of them again on Monday. Thinking of checking a third and 4th place too

Really!
We should always remember that a one sided story is not always true, hence it is always safe not to jump to a conclusion.
He was paid 25% as deposit despite not knowing him & the associated risk , and had 50% sent within 3-4 hours of sending work, yesterday night. I only requested I review it with the builder(am not an expert in the area, and had an initial drawing floored by the builder with obvious errors noted in the drawing and at my loss), have the builder's input and update him with the remaining 25% paid immediately. However I was told I should not expect any change and should just accept the work as he is an expert.

I appreciate his work, and I also insist the builder have a look & make his input, can't make the same mistake TWICE. It is not too much to request that. Work was sent late yesterday night, and I paid up 75% yesterday night.

I understand your predicament. That market could be traumatic sometimes.
Since it is for tabletop you need to buy in slabs. You will need two large slabs and some pieces for the skirting. Go direct to the slab cutters with your drawing not tile sellers.
I did black marble last week at 30,000 per SQ.meter. granite is cheaper.

It is within your right to review it before final payment. However this should have been agreed to at the beginning so that the timeframe for review will not cause problem.
Personally I will never subscribe to an online design service.

We never agreed such, and that is not the way it is done, after a day or two he is yet to review it, who does that, up till now he's yet to release the balance, go to my thread I have done a lot of designs for people who if they come for modifications or correction do that after full payment,
so if he comes back and say he wants to add this and that, I should do that because he's owing me?

This is someone who I took consideration of the money he spent in the initial design to give a huge discount and give him quality design is telling me to wait for builder to review, for how long, was it part of our initial agreement? What is my business with your builder.

This is a NO NO NO. Discount is at your discretion. It shouldn't come in to the equation? Why did he give you the job? Do you think he didn't ask others here about their fee? You both should have agreed on modalities for the payments.
After paying you 75% of the fee, your question to him should have been: how many hours or days would the review take him? If he now fails, we then can start doubting his integrity. Since there was no verbal or written agreement, both of you should tread carefully. You know people are observing. Going forward, even if na 1k be your money after discount, have a written agreement on how the payment will be made.

And I just told you we never had such agreement, and I have never seen where a client hold someone's money for two days because of review, we are talking of a single floor plan, a bungalow at that, taking days to review, where is it done, just tell me where..... What is my business with his builder so if the builder is sick or something I shouldn't get my money.

From your posted convo, the client doesn't seem to be like one that's not going to pay your balance. Just be a little more patient before escalating the matter further because your prospective clients on this forum are watching and how you handle matters like this will either make or mar your future opportunities. You happen to be one of the contributors I admire so well on this forum.

@ Oandy89, pls hasten your review process because with this new currency wahala, BrickDevo needs to go to the ATM early before the queue gets too long. cheesy cheesy
Peace guys!

In the light of the fracas in the last couple of hours, I wish to share a story.

I was introduced to a lady by a professional friend. The lady lived out of town. I had to travel quite a way to meet her, I did not drive, I took Uber there and back. We discussed and she agreed to deal. I told her she would bear the cost of my transportation to and fro, she agreed.

But she did not pay. Not that day, not the next week, the next month, or several months later.

I did not bother her, but I was extremely upset. I shared those thoughts with the Uber driver who took me back home. We all discussed how those rich people like to take advantage of those they feel are beneath them.

Yet every time she reached out, I was as polite as possible and never raised the issue of the transportation that never came.

However, just last month, this lady reached out and berated me for not reminding her about the transportation cost, asked for my account details, and then wired the money to me.

Then she explained that she was out of the country and just returned.

Then in the last few days contacted me again and said that she had decided to work with me since that meeting and then give me a new contract, and paid upfront.

Then promised to wire me even more funds next week.

She then made it clear, she will be hiring my services on a rolling basis for the foreseeable future.

I think it pays to take the long-term view in business and not the short-term view.

I am sure I have passed a message.
