Good afternoon all. I’m based in uk on a tier 2 visa with my husband and two kids(American citizens). Currently I’m pregnant and I will still want him/ her to have the American passport but I still can’t figure out the reasons to point out why I want to travel during interview because I have just applied for a medical visa. The visa I got initially was medical visa and I declared that I was pregnant and I wanted to birth my baby in the USA because of the poor health care system in Nigeria. Now I’m in the uk, I really do not know what to claim. Please I need your suggestions Thanks!!! 1 Like |

Just go there for the interview and mention you are there to renew. Same happened to my wife, she had a b1/b2 while living in another country before we moved to UK on tier 2 and she had to renew before birthing our baby in USA( Same reason as we wanted our baby to still have an american citizenship. She went to the London embassy and mentioned specifically that she wanted to renew her visa and she was granted as the VO could see she had visited previously. Also i think its good to mention you are there to renew specifically because my wife just went to the VO counter and the VO thought she was applying for the visa the first time till the VO mentioned, oh you have visited before and here to renew. B1/B2 is still same medical and visit so no need for you to over complicate things for yourself. Viola2017: 3 Likes |

Mroriginal: So good to know I have people on same mission with me😁 6yrs after, back to the thread again. Please did you need to do a dependent visa for the newborn? |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by feddy27: 1:32pm On Jan 23, 2023 |
Viola2017: Congratulations 🎉 renewed mine at London office as well. They asked me to send the proof of payments (just 1page each) for each child to their email because I didn’t take it along for the interview and my visa was granted 1 Like |

Baby came to UK with my wife on US passport as US citizens are are allowed in for 6 months, and then we applied for dependent visa in the UK right after. I think its better to just apply for dependent visa right after baby is back in the UK and not wait till the 6months lapses. feddy27: 1 Like |

Mroriginal: Oh great 👍 thank you so much ! This brings a lot of clarity. I was worried they would say parents have resident permit and why is newborn coming just with passport . Thank you for this. You are now my guide 😀 2 Likes |

I get your point alot of people i asked also said we needed to apply for the dependent visa before coming back to Uk but we couldn't apply so we just had to come in to apply for the dependent visa and when we got to the immigration, it was no big deal really and the officer stamped us in with no worries. So i guess we all just overthink these stuffs really. feddy27: 1 Like |

Deltapikin101: Hi people. I would appreciate any response on this. Update: Status changed to "No status" on the CEAC website on the 18th of January, but my passport is still being held till date. No helpful response from the visa helpdesk. Just wondering if anyone else ever experienced something similar. |

Good evening, everyone. I do need some advice here. So, a close friend of mine is having his wedding in Texas in April 2023, and he emailed me an invite. I applied for the B1/B2 US visa around November 2022 for me, wifey and my daughter because I didn't want to attend it alone. Our interview is set for early March 2023. Fast forward to mid-January 2023, we figured out that wifey is 22 weeks pregnant. No signs or symptoms till she complained about tummy ache, and we had to visit the hospital and we were told the good news. We've never applied for an American Visa as a family before, neither has wifey applied before we got married. Our daughter was born in Nigeria. So, since we are hoping to get an approved visa for the wedding, why not just give birth over there since her EDD is a little after the wedding. Bear in mind that when wifey was filling her DS-160 form, visit to the U.S. was strictly about the wedding we will be attending, nothing has to do with childbirth there because at that time, we didn't know. Now, my question is, do we just go for our interview and declare a visit for the wedding and tell the VO that wifey will stay back a little longer to give birth or we just stick to the original story of the wedding and hope for the best. By the time of our interview, wifey will be 30 weeks plus gone which means the baby bump will be visible. I need your best advice here, please. Thank you. |

Bugflector, if your wife is going to have her baby while in US together with attending the wedding, it's important that you declare she's having a baby seeing that she was probably pregnant during the application process. You can fill a new form and update it on your appointment page. Book Appointment with doctor, have enough money in your account and hope doe the best. |

bugflector: Speak about your desire to have your wife give birth here in the US. Find a doctor and a facility and arrange to pay all costs without a discount (which is usually a trap) and let the VO know of your preparations. Honesty may seem troublesome however it’ll never be as much trouble as if your wife gives birth while on a tourist visa after not declaring her pregnancy. Good luck and a healthy delivery to your wife. 1 Like |

Hi All So just looking for some advise to save costs. I am trying to book my return flight back to Nigeria, wondering if I must buy a seat so I can use a car seat for my baby or I can just take a gamble and board with hopes of finding an empty seat. These tickets are so pricey. What would you advise? SimiMaya: |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Debbieeeeeee: 7:41am On Jan 28, 2023 |
SimiMaya:You don’t require a car seat in the aeroplane, all strollers and car seats are checked in. A baby bassinet will be provided for you by the flight attendants. Did you leave on a one way ticket? If you didn’t leave on a one way ticket then you only need to call the airline to add your baby to your ticket, they’ll give you the cost implication over the phone and ask you to pay via card over the phone. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by SimiMaya: 9:34am On Jan 28, 2023 |
Oh I see. I am already talking to the airline to add my baby, thank you so much. It just looked like the information on the website of most airlines require a ticket- whether in lap or on seat. And needed me to procure a seat if I wanted to use a car seat. So how would the baby bassinet work for take off and landing? Is there a restraint? Thank you so much for taking your time to respond to me. Debbieeeeeee: |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Debbieeeeeee: 9:50am On Jan 28, 2023 |
SimiMaya:During take off you hold your baby and when the seat beat signs are off you use the bassinet, same applies to landing. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Pwinkle1(f): 11:34am On Jan 28, 2023 |
SimiMaya:Hey! I think what happens is that some people who have bigger babies and don’t want the discomfort, they buy a full ticket so the baby can use the car seat on the seat. However, for a smaller baby the bassinet will work just well - I presume your baby is still new-ish, so your lap/bassinet will serve the purpose, save your coins Sis! |

Congratulations on your baby trust you & baby are doing well Just add the baby as a infant on lap. after you have paid for infant ticket, ask the airline to reassign your seat to bulkhead seat with baby bassinet, it is first come first serve & they are only 4 onboard. If no bassinets seats are available or fully booked, request at check-in to block off the seat next you, if the flight is empty they will assist in getting you a row to yourself to be comfortable. Top tip: only check in your infant car seat at the aircraft door, this ables you to take your car seat inside the aircraft if there is a seat available without you paying for a seat. How much is your airline charging to add infant to your booking & which airline? SimiMaya: |

Thank you so much. Found this very helpful. To add him on my lap is about $66 but to pay for a seat was about $808. AirCanada. I found myself in an unfortunate situation where my return ticket had a layover in Canada, now I have to apply for a transit visa for myself. I’m just concerned about processing time but looks like I have no choice. Somandla: |

Also, I am applying for ETC. i got information on the requirements on the Nigerian Consulate’s website. Please any idea what the letter of consent should state? My husband is in Nigeria, does he have to courier the original signed letter to me or would a soft copy suffice? Do we both need to sign the letter? How long does it take to process? Thanks again.
