I’m glad common sense finally prevailed. In addition, CBN should immediately ban banks from issuing the old notes. Only the new notes should be issued from all ATM machines and across the counter from Monday. Any bank still issuing the old notes should be heavily sanctioned.
If the banks do not give the new notes over the counter, there will need to still be an extension then

The problem is not in extention but availability of new notes.

Good news. This fair enough for the masses and still a punishment to our politicians. The CBN knows what it's doing. They didn't want to be rigid cos I know for sure, what's underground of one politician's homes can't be exhausted in the 2 wks extension given. As a matter of fact, it could take a up to month for a branch to finish counting what some have in thejr homes. This is a good move

Very bad of Buhari and Emefiele just causing unnecessary tension within the system.

They just safe themselves from looming civil disobedience endsars would have be a child's play.

Even small Sweden with a population of 10million gave their citizens 6 months period to exchange old notes to new notes in 2015.After the deadline, you could still deposit cash in the ATM machine for a month. At the end of this deadline, you need to go to Swedish central bank to exchange your old notes for the new notes.

Emefiele have dined with and have mastered how to deal with Nigeria politicians.

At least he has shifted ground a bit.

There will no longer be a valid reason to put all the blame on CBN with this 10 days extension.

Cashless policy is the way forward
if banks refuse to increase circulation of new notes they will still extend it again,,, cashless policy kill u there!!! when they place withdrawal limit at 500k per week did Nigerians complain? circulate the money at least let every account owner be entitled to the said 500k a week before they can go own fighting themselves,, let them not frustrate an average Nigerian with their useless political banter

The CBN has tried in this manner. Monetary policies always have a far-reaching effect. It takes a disciplined stance to shape behaviour, given how grossly lackadaisical Nigerians can be with issues and deadlines.

By February 10, I hope we would have all complied.

If banks keep giving out the old notes over the counter, the deadline will be extended again

This CBN governor is the worst in history.
His technical and management skills are just too poor to be CBN governor. He talks as a bush man too often on national issue.
Same way he spoke during aboki fx saga as a frustrated one man business CEO. His feb 10 deadline is not cast on the rock like his so passionate previous jan 31 deadline. He will still be usurped again, and probably at that time, he will be thrown out alltogether with his incompetency.

You clearly don't know our saboteur banks. They didn't then, why would they now?

Politicians buy vote from Kenyans? Politicians buy vote because millions of Nigerians are willing to sell their vote, and this is why they don't deserve pity when they suffer loses because of the deadline.

If Nigerians had the behavior of chasing out people that come to buy vote on the day of election, this strict deadline would not have existed.

Emefiele will need to sit with the Bank CEOs and address the saboteurs of this new Naira notes circulation implementation.

The bankers are also part of the saboteurs

I didn't even mention anyone. Na you mention Tinubu out of many politicians in the country. Maybe you mentioned him cos he's the only one complaining openly.

FYI, the CBN didn't release much into circulation. They know what they're doing. I have people close to me as unit heads of banks so I know this fact. You can only pack what's available. There's no sufficient new naira note from the beginning, talkless of being packed by any politician. Even at that, there's a limit to what you couid get as an individual and a corporate body with the little released by the CBN

You are a blind prophet, since you can't see that politicians already have the new notes and that is why the flow of the notes is very slow ...rented crowds at campaign rallies are paid with new notes

As expected.

Nigerians are last-minute people.

Any deadline not extended will result in irreparable losses.

It's quite unfortunate. Some people even take pride in this shameful behaviour.
what are you saying? No country will give such a short period for a thing like this. In 1984 the same burhari did the same rubbish many people suffered. Rural dwellers lost their money.
