When and antelope goes to drink, it will be fine when it sees and elephant beside it. But when it's a lion it will be spooked. That is an implicit bias?
No that's just a prey avoiding death by being eaten by a predator.

No one is born with implicit bias for certain people. The way you dress when you enter a car dealership will determine how serious they will take you. This has nothing to do with race.
As far as I know, the idea of implicit bias, is that it's something that's learned usually indirectly from attitudes of people around us and media we consume and not something a person is born with.

Dressing how you want to be addressed is fine by me, and business owners choosing how to treat a person that walks into their establishment based on their appearance is to their own profit or lose, which really doesn't concern me.

If a certain group is known for certain kind of behavior, then you will have a preconceived or have some kind of prejudice against that group of people.
Often times such preconceptions are very flawed, and tells more about the person holding the preconception, than any individual from that group.
It leads to a treatment of people based on group identity and not the quality of an individual's character.

I understand that this maybe just a natural knee jerk reaction to a lot of people, but it's also very lazy and sometimes very dangerous as it's a logic people have oftentimes used to excuse and promote unfair treatment and prosecution.

Some people here make the argument that blacks killing blacks are as a result of poverty. No. Blacks robbing are as a result of poverty and its not even all. To some its a culture. You have folks who have made it in life, some make money through rapping, but they want that culture and they want to get involved in crimes. They glorify the culture through their music and what happens? People, some of them who are supposed to be in school will drop out to take a short cut. Notorious, jay-z etc. I believe have rapped about dropping out of school to hustle. Hustling involve many illegal behavior.
I think there is a disconnect here which is often a source of the disagreement between the left leaning and right leaning voices in American politics.

I think there is nothing wrong with a historical and sociological analysis and reading of the situations of the different demographics in the US (or any other place), because past actions do undeniably have effects in the current world and even has an influence in the decisions different people have available to them.

This gives a lens by which proposals for solving certain problems on a systematic (policy) level could be argued.
Like the factors affecting social mobility in black neighborhoods, or the us as a whole?

However a historical analysis doesn't absolve or excuse criminals of their crime, and they should face the law for their actions.

That post was a stream of nonsense. Until you explain why cultural anthropologists go live in the place they are studying, everything else you say sounds silly.

One more thing. You regularly post about the chickens you raised. Regularly post about how you give most of them away. So, regularly, I asked you about them. Let me ask you, how is that not showing off esp. given this isn't a chicken topic. Esp. for those that in this time of Nigerian economic distress and food insecurity, those who probably can't afford a chicken? Again how is that not showing off that not only you have so many but that you are so benevolent you can give them out? Again, figure out why me talking about my experience with Naija police has you triggered and feels like me showing off while you talking about all the chickens you have and give away is not. I know the answer.

this is disgraceful. The last time I talked about the chicken you asked me a question and I answered, the other time I was trolling you by saying you are enjoying Hennessy in a hotel while I am with my chickens grin

I got interested because Basilico mentioned once that he had chickens.

I am not saying I am enjoying chickens or I am better than anyone because I have chickens anyone can go to a store and buy for 5k, I was only saying I had many that I shared with friends and family this festive period. that is not bragging. So you think I am showing off? lol, you really need to grow up sha.

Nigeria is no worse than the US for your information. People are surviving even if things are hard.
the is more homelessness in your heaven than in the US, more suicide, etc... let's just enjoy life oh... you saying in the US does not mean you are happier, or better than anyone that is not staying in the US.

Just the way a jewelry store owner upon seeing a group of young men enter his store with saggy pants, tattoos and Gothic hairstyle, hippie looks quickly close his safe and grabs his rifle

While the same guy sees an elderly couple well dressed quickly stands up offer them a seat, a cup of coffee and relaxes

The youths reaches into their jacket, the store owner shoots or is seconds from pulling a trigger. The older couple reaches into their jacket, the store owner actually reaches out to help them and doesn't feel any threat

What do you think led to the different reactions to 2 different group of people who might be same race. The older couple might actually be the parents of the young men

Yes, two equally dressed people (you can't really tell rich/poor by appearance if equally dressed and manicured) are in the same situation, the black person will get treated worse in the US. Happens to me all the time. I was in a Staples picking up supplies in a dress shirt and slacks with other white people near me dressed the same way. Some white lady walked up to where I was and asked me if they had some item in stock as if I worked there. Lol.

Another perspective. Tribalism is still alive and well in the US in this generation. Why wouldn't the same racial tribalism still be around in the US, less than 60 years after the civil rights act was passed.

I do remember a study that showed that black men were more likely to receive more severe sentencing for the same crime compered to someone of another race.
This was the case regardless of the race of the judge and jury members.

Tribalism as in white people still identify with and discriminate on their European ethnicities?

You know that when you are poor you won't be able to afford a good lawyer and depend on DA who don't really care and whose promotion are tied to the conviction they can get

Also these things tie to your economic power and family support.

I know a teenage Naija girl who shoplifted the store clerk detained her and she called her dad who quickly came there. Quickly paid them resolved it and appealed to the store owner not to escalate this to the authorities

Another girl in a sinilar scenario but without a dad or that family structure like the firt girl will likely be detained get a record and next time if the 2 girls get into trouble one will get a lighter sentence and the other a heavier sentence because she's a repeat offender

I have seen a Predator protect an infant prey before. the infant does not have any experience or bias towards the predator. Today, i watched a dog raise 3 tigers. the dog is like their mother and they will fight anything that comes to attack that dog. but if you present another dog to the tigers that loves their dog mother... how do you feel that stranger dog will react? is it based on experience?

we are saying the same thing. which is why I used the antelope analogy, the Mother of any animal will teach the curbs what to eat and what to avoid, what to fear, and what not to fear. it is the same case with Humans.

unfortunately, it is also survival instinct, anyone who dresses like a bank robber should be judged as a bank robber till they are certain it is not the case. I remember one time i put on Hoodies in a Tesco shop, and the Security guy followed me and ask me to show my face, properly and I did. He was a white guy who did not have a problem with a Muslim Woman in Burka. Now, Young guys lift and rob stores with hoodies on. it is very rear for someone to rob in the burka. I did not see any racism or discrimination in that based on experience.

You made a claim I'll have to ask for proof.
"The left promotes and celebrates the breakdown of the family structure"
How and when did this happen?

As to your point that 2 parents are better than a single parent, this I wholely agree with.
I'd even argue that the nuclear family with only 2 adults taking care of the children is a relatively new thing and "it used to take a whole village to raise a child"

Dude, being ignorant is part of human behvavior. Killing stealing and jealousy, cheating lying etc are all part of human behavior. You cannot eliminate those things. Now some are crimes, but it is not a crime to be racist or hate someone. It is not a crime for people to he jealous or cheat on their spouse. Even if all are crimes, it is still things humans do.

I lost respect for him because it was disappointing to say the least. Because it is a normal human behavior to go to war or be tribalistic does not mean I should not be disappointed.

You budaatum often side with people who support your political views, even if they are lying or say rubbish, you tend to support them. That's a set or people you identify with.

Your hate for trump is implicit bias. Your hate for racist is implicit bias, your hate for the white man is implicit bias. Your love for abortion is implicit bias. Since black people killing themselves is the fault of a WHITE man because of colonialism and implicit bias, anything you do is as a result of the words said above.

You are no longer responsible grin for your actions. 400 years of slavery and the trauma you are facing is to blame.

And I can live in the US, recognize that it affords more economic opportunities than Nigeria, appreciate the opportunities I was blessed with and also not believe I am better than anyone not living in the US or that the US is better than Nigeria. I meant tribalism in Nigeria. Mistype. Meant just as Tribalism is still alive and well in Nigeria, Racial bias is alive and well in the US. That there are people who are still alive who went to segregated schools and people still alive who tried to physically prevent people from going to school when they were integrated(Jerry Jones). So, they would have children who were probably thought the same thing. etc. etc.

Yeah, has been some good scholarship on that. Here was one. Some of it is obviously wealth or lack of it, but also disparate treatment in law, etc. etc.

I think the left mocks the hypocrisy of the right saying they are the party of family values. Ex. Newt Gingrich was having an affair as he was attacking Clinton for having an affair.

I think your thesis is overbroad.

Gingrich did not impeach Clinton for having an affair, he was impeached for lying under oath. Clinton denied having affairs with Ms Lewinsky while placed under oath

I imagine Bill Barr's reign over the Justice Dept. is a good exemplar of how Nigerian's government can be so fuxed up. Fortunately in the US, we have a stronger legal system - judges and jury trials that checked some of these abuses.

Bill Barr’s Image Rehab Is Kaput
..
During his 22 months in office, he allowed his Justice Department to become a personal protection racket for his boss, Donald Trump, and left prosecutors, the F.B.I. and other law enforcement officials subject to the worst impulses of the president. But then, in his 2022 memoir, Mr. Barr did an about-face, bashing Mr. Trump for lacking a presidential temperament and singling out his “self-indulgence and lack of self-control.”
...
But if Mr. Barr harbored any fantasy that he might yet be credited with a wisp of personal integrity for standing up for democracy, that hope was thoroughly demolished on Thursday when The Times published the details of what really happened when Mr. Barr launched a counter-investigation into the origins of Robert Mueller’s report on the 2016 Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. The reporting demonstrated a staggering abuse of the special counsel system and the attorney general’s office, all in a failed attempt by Mr. Barr to rewrite the sour truths of Mr. Trump’s history.

It's a good read.

Everyone has implicit biases, things we picked up unbeknownst to us. Generally you get a glimpse of it when someone gets mad and reverts to what is base to them(ex. racism, tribalism. etc etc). The key is picking up on them and working them out.

Let the men not sow and run away. Let everyone stand firm and teach their children must marry first before shagging. Let's uphold family values! Men should stop breeding up and down and face their home! Wifey bad or not, stay put for family sake!

Don't go having sex all over the place cuz you were given or carrying 5 millions swimming spermatozoans!

It must start from somewhere.
