Alhassan Bawu, the Labour Party’s (LP) campaign director in Bauchi State for presidential candidate Peter Obi, has left the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Bawu defected to the People’s Democratic Party from the LP (PDP).

The absence of LP structure at the State, local, and ward levels, according to Bawu, who defected to the PDP alongside other party executives in the Northeast, was to blame for the choice.

Announcing his defection in Bauchi on Tuesday, he said: “The LP is not strong and won’t be able to win a single seat in the region.’’

“We don’t want to waste our votes and we want to use this time to mobilize votes to who can win the election,” he added.

He said that all party chairman, state and zonal officers, as well as national officers from the zone, had defected to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.

As Pantami and others abandon the Labour Party and support Atiku, Peter Obi’s campaign suffers a major setback.

The defection of Muhammad Pantami, the Northeast LP presidential campaign spokesperson, and other officials to the PDP has severely hampered Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Pantami and other senior members of the Obi-Datti campaign reportedly declared their defection, according to Naija News.

The former Labour Party chieftains publicly declared their support for the PDP’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The LP chieftains accused Peter Obi and the party of tribalism, godfatherism, and lack of internal democracy.

Pantami said: “Based on the aforementioned issues raised, we the leaders, and stakeholders of about four million voters in the North East states of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi Gombe, and Borno, resolved to quit from the LP and resolved to declare our full support to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.”

According to him, the mainstream political decisions of the party and the presidential campaign council are tilted towards a particular region, the southern part of the country, thereby sideling northerners.

Kikikiki...who is Balawu abi Bawu again?
It's like people don't understand that
Peter Obi is a brand yet.

Nothing concern us with Chairman, Director or Gateman of LP

Even if Margaret divorce Peter Obi as I hate divorce reach, I'd still vote Peter Obi.

Sensible people knows that atiku will win expect delusional people looking for cheap likes on nairaland front page cheesy

The Southern Nigeria are far in terms of education but the Northern Nigeria are miles away in terms of politics.

Instead of a northerner to lose another northerner will step down, but in South it is not done that way.

Atiku don carry wike and apc handicap over 0.5

Obidients are prepared , we know that they will be tempted with naira and dollars. Some will stand some will fall but the Obiedients remain focused until Peter Obi is sworn in ,in May.
